mystery surrounds the death of a woman on the eastern shore. shirley onley was found dead inside her trailer - after it caught fire two weeks ago. today police upgraded her death to a homicide. the fire happened january 27th on occohannock neck road in exmore. 10 on your side's deanna leblanc spent the day in exmore working to get more details. she's in the newsroom now with more. by all accounts - shirley onley seemed like a person who had no enemies. she was active in her church. she worked as a substitute teacher in a local elementary school - but recently quit to take care of her new great grand daughter. news that her death is now considered a crime - shocked neighbors i spoke with. they say shirley onley was one of the nicest people they knew. in the rubble of what's left of her home - you can see several religious texts somehow - escaped the

responsible for the shooting death of robert baytops. the 22-year-old was found injured thursday outside a home on raymond townsend lane in horntown. hospital. new information in a death investigation in southampton county. the sheriff's office has identified the two people found dead inside this house on southampton parkway on monday afternoon as 64 year old donald raiford and 59 year old vanessa raiford. the scene is about four miles outside courtland. deputies says they got a call out for a gunshot victim at the home around 12:30 yesterday afternoon. investigators are calling this a death investigation and say there are no suspects. the medical examiner will determine how the man and woman died. police in elizabeth city say a driver hit and killed a man walking in the road. it happened sunday night on halstead boulevard -- near east rich boulevard. witnesses say 58-year-old louis white was walking in the middle of the northbound lane when the vehicle hit him.

federal and state officials call it an epidemic - that kills

we've focused several special reports on the issue over the years. today - officials announced a new plan to fight back against heroin. 10 on your side's erin kelly talked to some of the people in that fight. the news conference happened at the federal courthouse in norfolk -- where minutes before -- a virginia beach man pleaded guilty to giving heroin to a woman who overdosed and died. attorney general mark herring, who was joined by the us attorney, dana boente and others - says in 2014 alone - 728 virginians died from heroin and prescription drug overdoses. herring has assigned a prosecutor to work with us attorney's office to focus on high priority heroin cases. he says the new plan is a multi-faceted approach including education, prevention, and prosecution. mark herring - attorney general - (d) virginia in the last year and a half, we have worked with our local and federal partners to prosecute more than 28 cases against dealers and traffickers, involving

the justice department is investigating a data dump involving the f- b-i. hackers say they've published contact information of twenty-thousand f-b-i employeees. the group that tweets from an account named "at-dot-govs" says someone pulled the information from the department of justice's database. the information includes names, phone numbers, and email addresses. officials say it does not appear hackers accessed any private information like social security numbers. the f-b-i data dump happened monday. on sunday --- someone posted personal data for ten-thousand homeland security employees. there are now more registered drone operators in the u.s. than there are licensed pilots. the federal aviation administration says the agency passed the milestone last week when it topped 325-thousand registered drone owners. the number of drones is even larger because operators often own more than one drone. the f-a-a launched a drone registration

a family in virginia beach is having a hard time feeling welcome in their own neighborhood. they moved from texas two years ago and started to build their dream home -- but have faced numerous hurdles along the way. 10 on your side investigative reporter chris horne looks into why this case is so unusual. when a home is being built, neighbors can file a complaint with city inspectors if they think there's something wrong. but here's the rub - they don't have to give their name. we investigated an upscale home in a neighborhood to match on the lynhaven river. a well-respected contractor with decades of waterfront experience began construction about two years ago. and then, the complaints began. the position of the home, the amount of construction debris, the amount of turf on the property, the height of the home. about seven times the average number of complaints, even for a deluxe home like this. and about half of those complaints have been anonymous. the homeowner's attorney says it became excessive. bill bischoff homeowner's

norm is ten inspections, and they get 68, and not one of them resulted in a stop work order or a violation of any shape or form, something's wrong. and since that interview, homeowner byron woodard says there have been several more inspections at his new spanish style home. total inspections now - more than 70. so what is the city's responsibility when the number of complaints about a new home goes far above the average? see my investigation coming up at 6-15. chris horne 10 on your side a judge has found a virginia beach woman guilty of murdering her friend -- in september 20-14, 41-year-old sarah flanders ran down richard pentz in the parking lot of plaza middle school. family members told us, they were in an on-and-off relationship. after the crash, police found her vehicle and linked d-n-a evidence to flanders. they charged her with murder and hit and run. she could face 50 years in prison when she's sentenced in june. investigators are looking

derailed today in ohio. it happened this morning in marysville --- outside columbus. the two trains were on the same track. two crew members are hurt. several of the train's cars and the engine overturned. c-s-x says the train wasn't hauling anything hazardous. a nearby road is closed while crews clean this up. california state inspectors are trying to figure out how this happened. caught on tape, this gas station canopy near l-a came crashing down yesterday. one person was hurt but should be okay. there was a car at the pump when it fell. the l-a area has gotten some high winds lately, but investigators have not said if that's what caused the collapse. an indiana woman says she fought off an attacker (carol/fought off attacker) "i was scared, but i figured either i'm going to be hurt or he's going to be hurt." carol pulled into her garage tuesday night, got out of her car and came face to face with a stranger. he said he had a gun and to hand

purse. the suspect pushed the victim up against a toolbox. (carol/fought off attacker) "so i grabbed a stapler gun and i smacked him on the side of the head. he again and i said i will crush your skull in if you touch me again." the attacker ran off. police are still looking for the suspect. a man is behind bars facing charges including attempted murder for two violent attacks in florida. police say the suspect in the red hat walked into a gas station and started swinging a metal pole at an 82-year-old man. an elderly woman with the victim fought off the attacker. then the suspect walked out of the store. about an hour later --- police say the suspect violentally swung a sword at a clerk and chased that victim around the store. the clerk fought him off. witnesses pinned down the suspect until police arrived and arrested him. detectives are investigating a motive. both victims went to the hospital and are okay. a wisconsin couple is facing charges after police say they allowed a
