animal hospital with what he uncovered about the case. this is animal hospital of nags head dr. barrett welch wh9o has been in trouble before arrested along with hiw wife we were there as the business took down the name dr. logan bo-tzman. they did that because according to the probably cause for search warrant according to the search warrant probable cause he told investigators dr. barrett welch was diverting controlled substances primarily xanax, tylenol, lomitil from the practice for his own personal use or the personal use of his family members. he stated this has been going on for over a year. we called bo-tzman but he did not return our call. i can also tell you investigators took nearly 200 pills from the vet office at their him lots of pills there too including a bottle in a

mystery surrounds the death of a woman on the eastern shore. shirley onley was found dead inside her trailer - after it caught fire two weeks ago. today police upgraded her death to a homicide. the fire happened january 27th on occohannock neck road in exmore. 10 on your side's deanna leblanc spent the day in exmore working to get more details. she's in the newsroom now with more. by all accounts - shirley onley seemed like a person who had no enemies. she was active in her church. she worked as a substitute teacher in a local elementary school - but recently quit to take care of her new great grand daughter. news that her death is now considered a crime - shocked neighbors i spoke with. they say shirley onley was one of the nicest people they knew. in the rubble of what's left of her home - you can see several religious texts somehow - escaped the

not surprising to her longtime neighbor who says shirley was a minister. this neighbor, who was at the fire before fire trucks even arrived on scene says it was hard enough for her to know her friend was trapped inside - but now to know that someone did this to her - makes it that much worse. agnes johnson/neighbor i hope whoever did it - they can find whoever did it - because if they don't everybody will feel that's a dangerous person out there for what reason? was there a reason why they did this to her? if not, i should be frightened. if somebody just came and did something to her. we checked in with state police - and asked what made them get involved in this eastern shore fire - and why the charges were upgraded. what they said coming up tonight at 5. in the newsroom i'm dl 10 on your side. the accomack county sheriff's office has identifed two murder suspects. now deputies need your help finding 24-year-old tavone cropper and 20-year old jahad triggs.

responsible for the shooting death of robert baytops. the 22-year-old was found injured thursday outside a home on raymond townsend lane in horntown. hospital. new information in a death investigation in southampton county. the sheriff's office has identified the two people found dead inside this house on southampton parkway on monday afternoon as 64 year old donald raiford and 59 year old vanessa raiford. the scene is about four miles outside courtland. deputies says they got a call out for a gunshot victim at the home around 12:30 yesterday afternoon. investigators are calling this a death investigation and say there are no suspects. the medical examiner will determine how the man and woman died. police in elizabeth city say a driver hit and killed a man walking in the road. it happened sunday night on halstead boulevard -- near east rich boulevard. witnesses say 58-year-old louis white was walking in the middle of the northbound lane when the vehicle hit him.

she didn't see white until it was too late. he was dressed in all black and it was raining. officers say they do not driver. chesapeake police are working to track down a hit and run driver. detectives say a pickup truck ran into a car and a fence on battery park yesterday afternoon. a 10 on your side viewer sent us these pictures of the damage. witnesses say they saw two people riding in the truck, but police say they couldn't get a good description of the people inside. call the crime line if you know anything. the york-poquoson sheriff's office needs your help finding this man - wanted for sexual battery. deputies say nicholas edwards allegedly touched a woman inappropriately at the wal-mart on route 17. it happened back in december. if you recognize edwards or his car - call the crime line. newport news police need your help finiding a man they say robbed a gas station last month. this video is from the mobil gas station and community market on jefferson avenue. police say on january 26th - this man walked into the store with a gun and demanded

away with money and hasn't been seen since. if you know anything about this incident - call police. during tonight's norfolk city council meeting, city leaders are expected to look into giving the world's biggest payroll processer a five million dollar grant over several years. if city leaders agree to the deal, a-d-p has said it may be heading to south hampton roads. city leaders have not given us more details. 10 on your side has learned it's expected to bring a large number of permanent full time jobs to norfolk. liz palka is at the council work session right now and also plans to attend tonight's meeting. look for updates here on air and on wavy dot com. chesapeake city council is also meeting tonight. they'll consider adding funds for a new field house in the western branch area, as part of next year's capital improvement plan. we first reported this proposal last week. a lot of the details -- like exact location -- have yet to be worked out. but councilman roland davis is picturing an indoor facility with turf fields, volleyball and basketball courts somewhere in the

we've focused several special reports on the issue over the years. today - officials announced a new plan to fight back against heroin. 10 on your side's erin kelly talked to some of the people in that fight. the news conference happened at the federal courthouse in norfolk -- where minutes before -- a virginia beach man pleaded guilty to giving heroin to a woman who overdosed and died. attorney general mark herring, who was joined by the us attorney, dana boente and others - says in 2014 alone - 728 virginians died from heroin and prescription drug overdoses. herring has assigned a prosecutor to work with us attorney's office to focus on high priority heroin cases. he says the new plan is a multi-faceted approach including education, prevention, and prosecution. mark herring - attorney general - (d) virginia in the last year and a half, we have worked with our local and federal partners to prosecute more than 28 cases against dealers and traffickers, involving

the justice department is investigating a data dump involving the f- b-i. hackers say they've published contact information of twenty-thousand f-b-i employeees. the group that tweets from an account named "at-dot-govs" says someone pulled the information from the department of justice's database. the information includes names, phone numbers, and email addresses. officials say it does not appear hackers accessed any private information like social security numbers. the f-b-i data dump happened monday. on sunday --- someone posted personal data for ten-thousand homeland security employees. there are now more registered drone operators in the u.s. than there are licensed pilots. the federal aviation administration says the agency passed the milestone last week when it topped 325-thousand registered drone owners. the number of drones is even larger because operators often own more than one drone. the f-a-a launched a drone registration

christmas to help it track down operators who violate regulations and to help create a culture of accountability. there are 320-thousand licensed pilots of manned aircraft. 2015 was a record-setting year for shark attacks around the world. the florida museum of natural history says there were 98 unprovoked attacks. six were fatal. the u.s. led the world with 59 attacks --- including eight in north carolina. the previous record was 88 attacks in 2000. shark experts say the increase isn't cause for alarm. although there were more attacks in 2015 --- the fatality rate was half of what it was in the year 2000. more swimmers, surfers and divers in the water contributed to the attacks --- not a growing hunger among sharks for human flesh. caught on tape --- an awning comes crashing down at a gas station. the state of nasa. that was the topic of a special address delivered for the first time today in hampton roads.

trillion dollar spending proposal arrived today. the initiatives include launching a new war on cancer, fighting growing threats from isis terrorists and combating global warming. the plan also includes a 19-billion- dollar increase in cyber security. other highlights: 2-point-9 trillion of deficit reduction over 10 years from health, tax, and immigration reforms. and 9-hundred-55 billion in deficit reduction from reducing tax benefits for high-income households. president obama:"the budget that we're releasing today reflects my priorities and the priorities that i believe will help advance the security and prosperity in america for many years to come." the republican-controlled congress can advance parts of the budget without approving the entire proposal. decision 2016 all eyes are on new hampshire. that's where the nation's first presidential primary is underway. here's a live look at a

the scene is about 40 miles outside munich. investigators say the two trains were on a curve and it appears that neither had time to brake before they hit. they could have been going 60 miles per hour. both trains derailed and are wedged into each other. the crash site is in a remote area with a forest on one side and a river on the other. that's why it took hours to reach some of the injured. crews in helicopters and small boats took the victims to the other side of the river to waiting ambulances. the search and rescue operation continues today in taiwan --- more than three days after a powerful earthquake. rescue workers are using heavy machinery to clear away huge chunks of debris to get to people buried in a collapsed high-rise apartment building. more than 100 people are believed to still be trapped in the debris. the death toll from saturday's six-point- four magnitude quake stands at 40. this is video from a turkish coast guard rescue. a helicopter crew saved a man stuck clinging to the end of a boat almost underwater. a diver lowered into the water

a family in virginia beach is having a hard time feeling welcome in their own neighborhood. they moved from texas two years ago and started to build their dream home -- but have faced numerous hurdles along the way. 10 on your side investigative reporter chris horne looks into why this case is so unusual. when a home is being built, neighbors can file a complaint with city inspectors if they think there's something wrong. but here's the rub - they don't have to give their name. we investigated an upscale home in a neighborhood to match on the lynhaven river. a well-respected contractor with decades of waterfront experience began construction about two years ago. and then, the complaints began. the position of the home, the amount of construction debris, the amount of turf on the property, the height of the home. about seven times the average number of complaints, even for a deluxe home like this. and about half of those complaints have been anonymous. the homeowner's attorney says it became excessive. bill bischoff homeowner's

norm is ten inspections, and they get 68, and not one of them resulted in a stop work order or a violation of any shape or form, something's wrong. and since that interview, homeowner byron woodard says there have been several more inspections at his new spanish style home. total inspections now - more than 70. so what is the city's responsibility when the number of complaints about a new home goes far above the average? see my investigation coming up at 6-15. chris horne 10 on your side a judge has found a virginia beach woman guilty of murdering her friend -- in september 20-14, 41-year-old sarah flanders ran down richard pentz in the parking lot of plaza middle school. family members told us, they were in an on-and-off relationship. after the crash, police found her vehicle and linked d-n-a evidence to flanders. they charged her with murder and hit and run. she could face 50 years in prison when she's sentenced in june. investigators are looking

derailed today in ohio. it happened this morning in marysville --- outside columbus. the two trains were on the same track. two crew members are hurt. several of the train's cars and the engine overturned. c-s-x says the train wasn't hauling anything hazardous. a nearby road is closed while crews clean this up. california state inspectors are trying to figure out how this happened. caught on tape, this gas station canopy near l-a came crashing down yesterday. one person was hurt but should be okay. there was a car at the pump when it fell. the l-a area has gotten some high winds lately, but investigators have not said if that's what caused the collapse. an indiana woman says she fought off an attacker (carol/fought off attacker) "i was scared, but i figured either i'm going to be hurt or he's going to be hurt." carol pulled into her garage tuesday night, got out of her car and came face to face with a stranger. he said he had a gun and to hand

purse. the suspect pushed the victim up against a toolbox. (carol/fought off attacker) "so i grabbed a stapler gun and i smacked him on the side of the head. he again and i said i will crush your skull in if you touch me again." the attacker ran off. police are still looking for the suspect. a man is behind bars facing charges including attempted murder for two violent attacks in florida. police say the suspect in the red hat walked into a gas station and started swinging a metal pole at an 82-year-old man. an elderly woman with the victim fought off the attacker. then the suspect walked out of the store. about an hour later --- police say the suspect violentally swung a sword at a clerk and chased that victim around the store. the clerk fought him off. witnesses pinned down the suspect until police arrived and arrested him. detectives are investigating a motive. both victims went to the hospital and are okay. a wisconsin couple is facing charges after police say they allowed a

old girl to drive because they were drunk. drivers reported seeing a pickup truck swerving along a rural road. deputies caught up to the truck at a public boat launch. it was still in drive and say the little girl was behind the wheel.
