united auto workers is sending its support to families affected by the flint water crisis. the detroit-based automaker -- and the union -- planning to donate three million dollars over the next five years. working with the united way -- the money will go towards health and education services for children in flint who have been exposed to lead. the mayor of flint announced a 55- million dollar plan to remove the lead- contaminated pipes from the city. working with a group from lansing -- the "fast start plan" will begin with high risk homes that have children under age six and pregnant women. lansing has already removed 13-thousand contaminated pipes from its city in the past 12 years. mayor weaver said she does not want to wait on governor rick snyder -- but she is asking for his support of the project. it could begin as early as this month and be completed in a year. meantime -- about three hundred miles away in sebring, ohio -- the latest round of testing show the state environmental protection agency found high levels of lead in the tap water of nearly a dozen homes.
