accepted the deal -- brought about by women who say bae systems norfolk ship repair denied them raises and promotions. 10 on your side's erin kelly was in court -- and has been going through the paperwork. this 50-page complaint, was filed three years ago by women who work or used to work with bae. today both sides agreed the settlement was fair and judge arenda wright allen accepted it. the lawsuit claims female employees suffered discrimination based on their sex and didn't have equal opportunities for promotion. it also describes a hostile work environment -- with unwanted sexual advances. one woman claims someone said to her -- "you don't look like a pipefitter, you look like a secretary." we talked to a lawyer representing the plaintiffs in this case. 1529 i really sat with them and my jaw dropped. i couldn't believe what had been going on 1533, some of it for two decades 1535 and i really believe that janet aviles in particular, and all four of the named plaintiffs epitomize

but dr, logan bo-tzman no longer works at the animal hospital because he's been talking to investigators about what is going on at welch's operation. we were there when dr. welch's step- daughter was taking down dr. bo-tzman's name. he's the one who told detectives dr. welch is diverting controlled substances from his practice for his own personal use. we found him, and tried asking him some questions about the operation. today, but the door is locked, and they for us. at six how patrice welch's daughter is noted in the court paperwork, and why bo-tzman says she changed ownership of her dog. intriguing twist to the story. virginia beach police say a man accused of shooting his mother is in custody in los angeles. authorities tracked down 20-year-old devante williams yesterday. he's now awaiting the shooting happened last thursday at a home on kitmal drive, in the ocean lakes area. the suspect's mother was seriously injured. williams is facing several charges including attempted murder and carjacking. a man is behind bars in newport news --- accused of burning his girlfriend's three year old son. 24-year-old nathan horn is charged with malicious wounding and child neglect. joe fisher is live in the wavy newsroom with what 10 on your side uncovered in this case. detectives say the alleged abuse happened in september 2014.

the boy while the child's mother worked. he told her the burns were an accident --- as he straightened the boy's hair with a flat iron. neither the suspect or the mother took the boy to the doctor. but once the boy's grandmother noticed the injuries -- she took him to to the hospital --- and officials there notified authorities about the suspicious burns. after an extensive investigation --- police charged nathan horn. north dakota. court papers say he relocated to north dakota immediately after the victim suffered the burns while in his care. horn arrived at the newport news jail last friday. he's now charged with child neglect. police say it appears the healing. he's in jail with no bond. coming up at five -- we're digging further into the court paperwork. i'll tell you about a text message that may help prosecutors prove horn is guilty. for now, live in the newsroom, i'm joe

a developing story in norfolk. norfolk police need your help tracking down a serial burglar. detectives say the man in these surveillance photos has broken into 5 restaurants since january 22. the most recent was sunday. investigators say he stole cash from the businesses. if you recognize the suspect or know anything about the burglaries --- call the crime line. newport news police are working to track down the suspect that robbed a 16- year-old. the teen says he and two friends were walking along alan drive monday night. the victim says a man walking in front of them turned around and pulled out a gun. detectives say the suspect stole the teen's phone and jacket --- and then ran off. newport news police are also investigating a robbery while the victim was trying to sell his iphone case. the victim told detectives he was meeting the buyer on heritage way saturday night when two men approached

we now have a focus on bringing all of our regional initiatives and problems together and address them in that particular passing. 22:12:12 we will put all the details of the event on our website wavy.com. live in the newsroom im brandi cummings 10 on your side. hundreds of u.s. soldiers are headed to afghanistan. the army says it will deploy soldiers to the southern afghan province of helmand. the new troops will assist afghan forces trying to push back taliban insurgents. the military says the soldiers will not take active combat roles. the court-martial of sergeant bowe bergdahl is on hold. an army appeals court judge has temporarily halted the desertion case. the court is deciding how to handle classified information. bergdahl walked off an outpost in afghanistan in 2009. his captors released him in exchange for five taliban detainees who were being held at guantanamo bay. the charges of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy carry a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

barack obama's efforts to stop climate change. the supreme court has temporarily blocked the plan to limit greenhouse gas emissions from power plants. under the e-p-a's clean power plan --- states would be required to meet specific carbon emission reduction standards based on their energy consumption. more than two-dozen states have filed a federal lawsuit to challenge the plan. a federal appeals court will hold a hearing on that lawsuit in june. the clean power plan cannot be enforced during the legal challenge. we have new information about a deadly school bus crash in indiana. police say the driver forgot to pull the parking brake. an elementary school principal died and two students were hurt last month --- when the bus hit them on a sidewalk in front of the school. police say the driver got out of her seat after loading students and failed to engage the brake. witnesses say the principal saved the students by pushing them out of the way of the bus's path. so far, police have not filed charges against the

safe after a fire destroyed their home. fire investigators in nashville believe a hoverboard's lithium batteries are to blame. two teenagers were trapped upstairs. their father remembers seeing his home on fire, with his children inside. brian fox: i got there as i was kicking in the doors and i thought i'm gonna lose two of my four children today. the fire started on the first floor, trapping the teens upstairs. they smashed through windows to get to safety. one teen jumped from the second story into her father's arms. brian fox/father i was yelling for haley and i was begging her please jump please jump baby please jump and she jumped out the window without hesitation and i can't tell you how brave that was megan fox/mother: the fact that a toy cause this kind of destruction to our lives it's just wrong the family escaped with a few broken bones. fire officials say their million-dollar home is destroyed.

forced an alaska airlines flight heading to san diego to make an unscheduled landing. passengers say the man was drunk and disruptive. "what i'm a terri?" "watch out for them terrorists" (applause and cheers) airline officials say the man got agitated and verbally abusive and even threatened the crew at one point. the plane landed in denver where police took him into custody. the flight was able to continue on to san diego without further interruptions. here's one from the dumb criminal files. illinois police say a man stole money from a photo booth. little did he know, the camera snapped his picture while he was doing the alleged crime. police say he got away with $75 bucks. now, they're putting his picture out nationwide, hoping someone will recognize him. an elderly man should recover after he accidently locked himself in a newspaper stand for four days with no food or

it's from 9 news in australia. nine-three-year-old norwood thomas flew to australia to meet 88-year-old joyce morris. morris was a 17-year-old british girl and thomas was a 21-year-old paratrooper when they first met in london shortly before d-day. after the war --- he returned to the u.s. the two wrote letters to each other, and thomas asked morris to come to the u.s. to marry him. morris misunderstood and thought he'd found someone else --- so she stopped writing. the two eventually married other people. thomas' wife died in 2001. morris divorced her husband after 30 years. last year --- morris asked one of her sons to look for thomas online. the couple reconnected via skype and this morning in person. paying nearly 200 women in a sexual discrimination lawsuit. the federal judge accepted the settlement today. despite agreeing to settle, b-a-e denies any wrong doing. 10 on your side's erin kelly was at court today for the hearing. judge arenda wright allen accepted the settlement after today's hearing. plaintiffs in the case call it a small victory. janet aviles couldn't stop the tears - as she stood in front of the federal courthouse in norfolk wednesday. three years before, she and eight other women filed a class action lawsuit -- against b-a-e systems norfolk ship repair. c0008 interview janet - janet aviles - plaintiff 2310 i just thought it was the right thing to do, you know, fighting for all women, you know, our rights, within the shipyard. i mean, i think everybody should be treated equally 2320 aviles, a ship fitter specialist, started working there in 1987. a 50-page complaint alleges aviles - and other female employees were not treated the same as men and suffered sexual harassment. the paperwork says aviles
