also happening today - hundreds of people are standing together against violence in hampton roads. the city of hampton is hosting a symposium that from all of the seven hampton roads cities along with several state leaders. they are all addressing crime among african american men. this type of gathering before. officials say it's time to send a message. the event began at eight this morning at the hampton roads convention center. it aims to reduce youth violence and boost black male achievement by featuring topics that engage young children and men. leaders say the goal of the event is for people to take ideas and information back to their communities and put them into action. we've got more details on the event on wavy.com a 59-year-old hampton school bus driver is in the hospital after being assaulted by a 14-year-old female. the incident happened around 8-30 this morning
