palka has been checking into how road crews are preparing. she's live in virginia beach. liz? we are in virginia beach where public works trucks are in their place. plenty of work is going on behind-the- scenes. a public works spokesman says crews have their assignments and they are watching to see what the weather does. in norfolk, crews are pretreating bridges and primary roads today. that will continue through the morning. the same is happening on the interstate. vdot crews started pretreating the southside and peninsula roadways this morning. they say they want to make sure the evening commute tomorrow is a safe one. and in northeast north carolina ncdot is getting ready to. crews started applying brine in camden and pasquotank county

board was heading to syms middle school and was stopped. that's when -- police say a 14-year-old girl, in the 8th grade -- assaulted the 59-year-old bus driver. she went to the hospital but was expected to recover. the student was not injured. patrick linkous - neighbor 456 wow, see just crazy things happening nowadays 459 you just really got to be careful out here 502 hampton schools issued a statement, saying in part, the division expects students to behave appropriately and that the student's behavior was unacceptable. the division says there is video from the bus. the division says it will discipline the student according to the handbook -- and follow up on the bus driver's condition. no word on how she's doing tonight. live in hampton, erin kelly, 10 on your side. a dog attacked and killed a perquimans county woman. she adopted the pitbull terrier -- just two weeks ago. 10 on your side's matt gregory joins us now in the newsroom. matt -- she thought the dog was harmless. that's according to her mother. she says her daughter suzanne story told her the

internet the second round happened on february 5th. the men face prostitution solicitation charges. we posted a slideshow with all of the mugshots on wavy dot com. reports are coming in to norfolk police about a car approaching kids in the larchmont neighborhood. now police are on the lookout for this vehicle. residents say someone in the 2000 nissan altima has been asking children inappropriate questions. they say it happened monday. norfolk police learned about this through a nextdoor post. officers are increasing patrols in the area. if you have any information about the car --- call the crime line. the case against the suspect in a deadly stabbing is moving forward. a judge has sent carl holder's case to the grand jury. police charged him with first degree murder. the grand jury will decide if he will stand trial for stabbing elvin elliot to death during an argument. it happened in august outside the farm fresh at victory crossing shopping center, in portsmouth. elliott died at the

a woman is behind bars charged with setting an apartment on fire. the arrest is a result of a months-long investigation. 22-year-old charmaine march of virginia beach is accused of starting the fire in newport news on marcus drive back in october. no one was hurt in the guess a little bit of instinct took over - a man was in the water and he's cold so you got to get him out as quick as you can ahead at 5:30 -- see what happens when three local shipyard workers take action. a school principal came to 10 on your side to restore his reputation. rickey eley resigned from bertie high last year, after police arrested him for leaving the scene of an accident. but this week, those charges were dropped. anita blanton sat down with him today. nicole to say rickey eley has been through a lot over the last four months doesn't fully capture his reality. there was an accident, accusations, an arrest, charges, and court dates all before his vindication this week. 45:19 none of this had to happen because the eley walked away from his job as principal of bertie high school last year with a cloud of uncertainty over head. 42:44 it was a media storm it was just starting to snowball into a huge negative story 42:51 43:46 i just thought it was better for me and my family and the district just to resign 43:50

a compromise over gun legislation has cleared the virginia house. three bills were approved allowing more concealed-weapon permit holders to legally carry guns in the state. this expands the number of concealed handgun permit reciprocity agreements virginia has with other states. the legislation also prohibits people subject to a protective order from carrying guns and requires police presence at gun shows for voluntary background checks. critics of the legislation worry the deal will make residents less safe. nearly one-hundred new jobs are heading to suffolk. emser tile will invest more than 16-million dollars, to make an east coast distribution center in centerpoint intermodal center of suffolk. virginia beat out south carolina for the project. mayor william sessoms announced today: 100 new jobs are being added in virginia beach. this comes as a result of the

researchers in slovenia claim they have proved a strong link between the zika virus and microcephaly in fetuses. until now, the link between zika and microcephaly had been suspected but not confirmed. an autopsy of an aborted fetus with brain anomaly showed the presence of zika in brain tissue -- but no traces of 13 other viruses that could potentially cause microcephaly. the mother had done volunteer work in brazil when she was infected with zika while pregnant. the research team said this confirms that zika can pass from
