most part. we are still seeing scatters snow showers towards the peninsula but nothing really big. over the lower bay, these have popped up here in the past five minutes so nothing big going on here. most of this out of the bay. this is the last of it into virginia beach and falls cape landing at the park here. we're seeing one last area of snowfall going on in the southern shores and duck area. farther southward, across the outer banks, we had heavy, heavy snow in mainland areas especially. i would not doubt if they got 4 or 5 inches of snow. it could have ended in sleet or rain. we had snow across north hatteras island but it is gone and moving off nicely throughout the region. here is a look back eight hours in time.

nevadaier snowheavier snow. 9:00 this evening, 30 degrees and the snowfall has moved off. we take a look at the midnight hour. something is going on through here where the wind is pick up and the temperature is going to drop on down and that will give us wind coming up from the day tomorrow. the wind is likely to last through the day on sunday. few more flurries going into sunday and the noon hour. it is going to be cold over the weekend. we'll have details on all of this for you in a few minutes. >> now to our team of reporters braving the elements to bring you the latest information. we begin with andy fox. >> he is live at virginia beach town center. andy, how are the roads there? andy: they are fine. we are not seeing any problem. they are wet and the snow stopped about 30 minutes ago. let's take a look at what we have down here.

we do not have any type of ice that we've been able to see. just got off of the phone with public works, light snow reported in other parts of the city. they are sending crews to bridges to sand them. fears of dropping temperatures tonight, they will send out the frost patrol at 2:00 a.m., two trucks to sand and salt bridges, exit and entrance ramps and overpasses. someone ran in the back of a sand truck and this is a reminder, which own sue the sand truck, stay back 150-to 200 feet. someone following too close to the truck that is doing a lot of work. that is the latest in virginia beach. andy fox, 10 on your side. joe: i'm joe fisher live in elizabeth city where the snow has moved out. the big story right now that we're dealing with is the frigid temperatures and a little bit of

over tonight. you're look a live look at highway 344 here in elizabeth city. for the most part, a minimal impact on drivers today. further to the right is highway 17. you can see cars driving with very little trouble along highway 17 as we come back here, it is the overpasses like this one over highway 17 that d.o.t. crews tell me they are most worried about. they could freeze over with the frigid temperatures we have tonight. we have about 2 inches of snow on the ground. ncdot crews tell me they will be out all night long monitoring whatever could possibly by on the road. i'm joe fisher, 10 on your side. chris: i'm chris horne outside of the wavy studios and i can tell you that the snow has all

we're seeing one flake every 10 seconds but if your car was parked all day, you might want to clear it off. the streetselveses street services are wet. the crews went out this afternoon when the snow started and conditions back then were worse than they are now. they are poised to deal with whatever they need to keep the secondary roads clear with 1,500 tons of sand and salt. live in portsmouth, chris horne, 10 on your side. >> reporter: there are still a few lingering flurries coming down but that does not mean the public works crews finished working. take a look at this video. i can show you what i mean. hampton police fold behind the snowplows and spreaders to make sure drivers keep a safe distance from the trucks. we've seen them on west mercury boulevard several times. they have been putting down a

back here live, we're taking a look at west mercury boulevard. conditions are fine, vehicles are not having any problems. we've seen quite a few problems that have been walking around. keep in mind, if you're going to be out and about in hampton, the public works crews are going to keep working through the night putting down the salt and sand. they are not concerned about plowing right now because there is nothing to plow on the roads but they are putting the salt and sand down. make sure you are keeping a safe distance. i'm liz palka, 10 on your side. >> that is a look at the city streets. the interstates impaled a -- could be a different story. >> jen, we know the way it can be around here when it snows. what you seeing out there? jen: we have one crash clearing on the south side around greenbrier parkway. that is not causing major

secondaries are heavy, for example, george washington highway but that is to be expected. this is one, this is a shot of 64 westbound around bay avenue. this is for motorists heading to the peninsula and it is backed up to chastity boulevard. eastbound side going to the southbound side, that looks pretty good. no delays there. we have a crash at 54 west, that is no longer there. it has it backs up to jefferson avenue. your commute to points north is better now. use caution if you have to head out this evening. now back to anita and tom. anita: this e-mail came in from eatonton. the snow there sticking to the viewers' back deck. you can see many of the pictures we received tonight on our website.

friday night. anita: a live look at the ocean front on this wintry friday. very interesting perspective there. the snow continues to fall but it is tapering off at this point. we have crews everywhere to keep you updated on the system's progress. one of the crews is in cheese peek --chesapeake since it has been snowing since 2:00. erin: snow is tapering off here as well. it is chilly out here but the

the crews have been out here on the major roads. we've seen trucks going by with a salt mixture. crews come in at 7:00 tonight and they will check on any problems on the bridges and the ramps. they want to tell the drivers, assume every street is slippery because it is cold and the brine could help but there could slick spots. we haven't seen any problems. we've seen snow sticking to the grassy services but with the cold temperatures, you have to be careful with where you're going because the brine only works in some spots so you have to be aware of that. anita: more ahead at 6:00 as we check the roads around the area we'll check around with the reporters in the south side and north carolina. tom: if you have thoughts of spring, check out h.r. spring.com including coastal

how are we looking tonight? >> reporter: not as bad tonight as last week but a different kind of storm. we're in the southern shores and we saw heavier snowfall earlier today now, it looks like a winltry mix. it is what you would expect to see in dade county. it is clear but very slick. earlier today, we saw the snow coming down and it layed across 158 near kitty hawk also. as we talked to driver, they were trying to get home from work and said it wasn't too bad but as it freezes tonight, it will get worse. >> the back roads are icy but it is pretty good. a little slushy. it will get worse later on. >> reporter: now, we have seen plow crews coming out full force. earlier today, when i was at

they were putting up all of the salt into the trucks and they got about 60 tons of salt and they think it will last through this storm. if another storm comes through, they will have to go out and get more. the icing is what crews are preparing for in the outer banks. i'm matt gregory, 10 on your side. liz: i'm liz palka in north shore. we saw the snow tapering off but it was coming down steady for three hours. we saw flurries around 2:00. we do have proof it snowed today. take a look at the grass. you can see the coating here but not the case for sidewalks and not the case for roads. this is little creek road near the intersection of chesapeake boulevard and roads aren't covered in snow at all. we haven't seen any traffic issues and, of course, that is what we like to hear.

bridges and main roads yesterday as well as this morning and crews will still be working into this evening as well as into this weekend to monitor conditions and make sure everything is ok. there is always the concern for freezing but roads are not looking too wet. again, not looking too bad. live in norfolk, 10 on your side. anita: thank you, liz. driving around hampton roads, you just saw the live picture from liz. as you're driving you may have to deal with the snow and maybe a little bit blowing up from other people in front of you as he has his windshield wipers on. tom: you can see dry spots on the road and that is good news as the temperatures falls and we can cut down on the spots that will freeze over but still, you want to be careful tonight. anita: let's go over to our

tracking this storm all the way. don: temperatures aren't going to really drop. they are going to plummet towards dawn but for now, they are not going to drop that rapidly. anita: pretty much what is on the roads is what you're going to get so when the clouds move out, that is when the temperatures will drop. don: that leaves us enough time for roads to drop out and we'll see wind help to evaporate on the roads. let's talk about one more thing then i will get into the snow. tomorrow night, drip the faucets tomorrow night because it is going to get cold. it will drop to 10-14 degrees inland and 15 degrees in the shoreline. this will be the coldest we've seen so far this year. closer to the store, you shore, you want to be ready for that.

throughout the area. hampton roads area moving off there is three hours worth of time-lapse sequence. you can see light snow and the earn shore, little bit of scattered snow around the back bay area and that is it. nobody lives in the back bay wildlife receive refuge. and snow towards kitty hawk and the duck area. most of the snow is moving off. a lot of this is flurries already so moving off nicely. we ended up with a dusting across parts of the area. .5 to one inch perhaps a little more and maybe more in virginia beach. we had bursts of snow towards hurtford county. 1-2 inches then farther to the

more for the forecast for the weekend. ashley: this storm is moving out of here as we continue through the evening hours. for the next few hours, we'll keep the clouds around. watch as we get passed midnight the clouds will clear out. by tomorrow morning, maybe a few flurries through the northern neck but that won't accumulate to anything though. tomorrow morning, temperatures will be in the mid 20's, however, the wind will pick up overnight and that will allow temperatures to hover in the upper 20's to low 30's as we go into tomorrow afternoon. it will feel like it is in the upper teens to low 20's. it is going to be a bitter day on saturday. if you don't like saturday, you won't like sunday. sunday, even though we will have plenty of sunshine out there, temperatures will struggle to make it out of the 20's all today, which means wind chills will be stuck in the teens all day. watch as we go from sunday night into monday morning. we'll see increasing clouds again and we'll start off with a

however, temperatures warm in the low 40's monday evening that will allow the transition to all rain. monday night into tuesday, we will be tracking mostly rain out there. by tuesday evening, temperatures start to drop off into the upper 30's, that will allow for the transition back over to a snow-wintry mix. a lot going on over the next few days. here is the time-lapse from tower cam 10. we have the light coating on the ground. 27 degrees in newport news. 29 in portsmouth. 31 at virginia beach. 30 degrees in williamsburg. temperatures are going to hover near these numbers for the next several hours until we get closer to 4:00, 5:00, and 6:00 in the morning. tomorrow start off in the mid 20's. temperatures will warm into the low 30's because of the biting northwest wind. it will be howling 15-25 miles an hour. mostly sunny with a high of 27. then we have a mess to deal with

tom: this is a picture from the scene. a bus headed home around noon and a pickup truck ran into the back of the bus while it was stopped on route 258 to turn on water works road. a school spokesperson said a driver and two students have minor injuries but the bus and trucks sustained damage as well. anita: a 22-year-old man is in jail accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl. the girl met erick martinez and officers charged him with rape. tom: a chesapeake man charged with identity theft and credit card fraud. he could face more following a meth lab bust. the sheriff's office say they were serving a search warrant for identity theft and they found a lab in his shed behind
