flames shooting from the roof of a home. firefighters say a man and dog inside the home got out safetly. investigators are still figuring out what started this fire. now to an early-morning fire in virginia beach. we now know investigators believe the fire was an accident, and it started on the 3rd floor balcony at the linkhorn bay apartments. that's on treetop drive, off birdneck road. the two-alarm fire started around 3:00 this morning when someone called 9-1-1 about a lot of smoke and fire. "my neighbor from up on the third floor came down and said my place is on fire, my place is on fire. so immediately made sure we got all our nieghbors out. the woman next to me her boyfriend is on deployment and their two kids were inside so i grabbed one of the kids and she grabbed her infant and we ran out. then i looked up and the whole roof was engulfed in flames" it took firefighters about an hour to get the fire under control.

new at midday, the f-b-i is investigating how a bomb ended up on a rental car in new mexico. staff at an avis car rental near the albuquerque airport, discovered the device sunday morning and called police. investigators say the explosive device was attached to the car. they also said the car was orginally rented somewhere else, though officers won't say where. the investigation closed down the car rental company for several hours, and delayed travelers from picking up any cars. the artic blast we experienced over the weekend actually got in the way during a deadly fire in massachusetts. one person died in the fire after getting stuck on the third floor. firefighters say their regulators and tanks kept freezing in the cold temperatures. one firefighter was also hurt after he slipped and fell on the ice. the cause of the fire is under investigation. here's another view of

virginia state police is urging drivers to stay off the roads because of just how bad it is out there. as fatal one in fauquier county. there were 40 crashes in the hampton roads area between midnight and 7:00 this morning. new at midday, dominion virginia power is optimistic that today's snow and wintry mix won't cause too widespread outages. a spokeswoman believes the level of ice won't get bad enough to cause any problems with their system. if you do need to report an outage

last night. take a look at this video of from dulles airport. in the snow, a group of people loaded the casket into a hearse. earlier sunday, a procession of about 20 police officers brought the body to an el paso, texas funeral home. justice scalia died on his west texas ranch of natual causes. he was 79-years-old. new at midday, for the first time ever, a former israeli prime minister is sitting in prison. ehud olmert arrived at the prison today to serve his 19-month sentence. the 70-year-old was convicted in march of 20-14 of bribery and obstruction of justice. olmert still denies any wrongdoing. police in australia carried out the biggest liquid meth bust in the country's history. it's worth 900-million dollars. investigators say the drugs were hidden inside boxes of silicon bras inserts and art

arrested four suspected dealers from hong kong. they are expected to appear in court next month. if convicted, each suspect faces a potential life sentence. furniture company ikea could be in trouble for allegedly skipping out on paying taxes in europe. according to a report by the european parliament, the company funneled money through lichtenstein and the netherlands between 2009 and 20-14 to avoid paying taxes. ikea denies the allegations. now to a dramatic rescue off the coast of california. a man got stuck after a wave swept him into a cove. take a look at the video. you can see the 19-year-old trapped on the rocks while waves hammer him. this happened near san diego yesterday afternoon. lifeguards swam into the rough waves to get him, but then had to use a crane to get him out of the water. after getting back on dry land, he spoke about his scary experience. audio is low, please
