4;45:30 schmid says he stopped by helmstetter's house everyday...in the morning and at night...to check on him and take him on errands. sunday night he went by and helmstetter was already in bed. monday morning he went by again only to find helmstetter dead. 4:47:13 i knocked on the door and there was no answer, no response. so i cracked open the door and i looked in and i saw that the propane heater which was his only heat that it had toppled over. 4:47:38 ii reached to turn it off. with that, i turned my head and i saw him release part of the house be accidental. schmid says he thinks the heater may have had something to a little bit before. it was the clothes that caught on fire. not so much him no one knows for sure what happened this time. investigators are waiting on an autopsy to find out deputies are asking anyone with information

into a guardrail and landed in the ditch on the western freeway, at cedar lane. they found two people badly injured inside -- and even had to cut one out. but that's not all they found. 10 on your side's lex gray has the details you'll see only on 10. anita and stephanie -- two 10 on your side sources tell us -- when police responded to this crash, they stumbled on a credit card fraud investigation. we expect to learn even more as this goes on -- but here's what we uncovered today. you can see the crash scene on 164 westbound and cedar lane just before 12:30 a-m. (jam cams) here's what it looked portsmouth police say the car went off the road -- hit a guardrail -- then slammed into a ditch. both the man and woman inside were badly hurt. one of the individuals had to be cut from the vehicle by the fire department in order to be taken to the hospital. :24 10 on your side learned that this investigation is about much more than what caused this camaro to crash. two sources tell us -- officers on the scene

credit cards inside. they also found a machine used to melt credit cards down, and imprint them with new information. i asked portsmouth police detective misty holley about that. (1) 41:13 this is an ongoing investigation, i can't really divulge what may or may not have been inside the vehicle. (butted to) 41:34 lex: okay. but you can confirm that beyond just crash reconstruction that normally happens, that there is another investigation going on. :41 mh: the crash investigation is still ongoing, and there may potentially be another investigation depending on what investigators determine from that crash. :54 one of our sources says -- an officer on the scene called a person listed on one of the cards...and the person said they had lost 3-to-4 thousand dollars on that card. our other source says officers found a 4-thousand dollar nordstrom receipt on the floorboard of the car. so far, no one has been charged. both people in the car are expected to survive, and police say they'll be talking to them today. we expect to find out more this week from

another recall involving takata airbags. general motors is recalling about 200- hundred thousand cars. the recall includes saab's and saturns in the u-s and canada. it's part of a bigger recall of more than five million vehicles announced last month by u-s safety regulators. dealers will replace the takata driver's air bag inflators. owners of the affected models will get letters in the mail. starting today u-s airlines can apply for more routes to cuba. and that could be could for american businesses. right now there's only about ten to fifteen

crowd tonight at a tribute concert for the victims of the terrorist attacks in november. among the survivors attending -- lydia berkennou. she was at the bataclan theater that night watching the band perform -- when the terrorist stormed in -- shooting and killing 89 people. berkennou moved to london following the attack. she only recently returned to paris -- and to the scene of that horrific night. 1:18-1:41 (s/ lydia berkennou/survivor of the bataclan attack) sot starts in vo "my brain did die that night, i mean a part of me. coming here makes my brain realize we did survive. it's hard, it's hard because the whole time i was inside i thought 'this is it. i'm going to die here'." the bataclan has been closed since the attack that left 130 people dead and 350 other injured. severe weather strikes southern florida -- possibly spawning two tornadoes. this was the scene in

ten on your side with a startling statistic -- nearly three million grandparents are raising their grandchildren -- and the experts say -- the trend is likely to continue. there are several reasons why -- including military deployment -- a growth in the number of incarcerated women -- and the ongoing opiate epidemic. there's an increase in the number of children being taken from parents battling drug addiction. more often than not - they're being place with family -- rather than foster care. grandparents living on a limited income are having a hard time taking on the extra costs. right now there is a bill making its way through the senate that would help. eating fish more than three times a week during pregnancy could be associated with an increased risk of childhood obesity. that's according to a new study just released. researchers studied more than 26- thousand pregnant women and their children -- over a six year period. they found that pregnant women who ate fish more than three times per week -- gave birth to children with high b- m-i's. the effect was

renovation is about to get underway on an ancient underground city in central turkey. it was discovered back in 20-13 when workers were demolishing an old housing project. archaeologists came in to take a look -- and found tunnels leading to living spaces, kitchens, wineries, chapels, staircases and many ancient artifacts. the underground city is believed to date back to around 330 a-d - and was used until the ottoman conquest in 14-53. stay with us... wavy news portsmouth. a traffic stop and police chase
