charged in the first bust this weekend on middlesex avenue. detectives say evidence from that investigation led them to the second location across the street. 31 year old michael adkins and 43 year old dana chandonnet are in jail charged in last night's bust. 10 on your side's deanna leblanc is live in newport news with the latest in the investigation. the two suspects you mention, michael adkins and dana chandonnet declined our interview request. as did a third person, autumn wells, who was arrested after a meth lab was found in her home on sunday. police say this is the home that 28 year old wells was living in off middlesex road in newport news. you can see now - the sign on the door says the house is unsafe for human occupation. police went to the home sunday for a report of home invasion and found meth making materials. they now say that evidence found in the home led them to an apartment across the street. this is video from last night, as police searched that apartment.

i looked out front and that's when i saw the white van and all of the respirators on their face as well. they were looking at things in baggies and substances in bottles, and it was pink. the substance is undergoing testing. police haven't made any arrests. a light rail update. the state transportation board says virginia beach has until april 30th to commit to bringing the tide to the beach. for weeks, we've reported on secretary aubrey layne's push for the city to use state money for light rail, or lose it. layne says he cannot continue to hold $155-million dollars from other projects. layne says virginia beach has until the end of april to sign a memorandum of understanding concerning the light rail project and apply for the purchase of cars. the state transportation board

new information since midday in a townhouse fire in virginia beach. investigators say it started in an electric panel box. it happened around 10 last night on atterbury court in the lake edward area. these are new pictures from the fire department. two townhouses burned. two units have smoke smoke damage. the red cross is helping 16 people affected. one firefighter was hurt, but should be okay. developing news in norfolk. police are trying to track down whoever shot at a car with four men inside. it happened around 8-30 last night on piccadilly street. after the gunfire ---- one of the men drove to the norview recreation center and called 9-1-1. when the shots were fired --- glass shattered from the driver's side window and hurt the driver. his injuries weren't serious. bullets never hit anyone.

over the past couple weeks we've been telling you about layoffs at shipyards around the area. but the navy signed a huge contract with local shipyards that could bring hundreds of jobs back. 10 on your side's jason marks is here with the latest.. jason the navy awarded a contract to three norfolk shipyards. it could be worth 2.5 billion dollars and runs through 2021. one of those yards is bae systems. you may remember, 10 on your side told you last month that bae is laying

march. unfortuanley the contract won't stop the scheduled layoffs but in many cases those workers could be hired back down the road. the two other yards involved in this contract are marine hydraulics international and gereral dynamics. we're told the navy is asking the ship yards to do maintenance and mondernize amphibious warships, destroyers and cruisers. jason marks wavy tv the target distribution center in suffolk plans to hire 600 new workers. we first reported the expansion to the facility on manning bridge road last april. today we learned about the new job opportunities. target says it is adding new equipment and product lines in an effort to get products to customers faster. the new jobs involve equipment operations, packaging and shipping. if you're interested --- we posted a link to the target careers website on wavy dot com. it's an exciting day for portsmouth public schools. yesterday we told you that thanks to a grant and money allotted from the school board high school

virginia beach police say two yogurt shop robberies could be connected. these are surveillance pictures from the most recent robbery. it happened saturday night at the skinny dip on virginia beach boulevard. detectives say the suspect bought frozen yogurt and then demanded money from the clerk. he ran out with the stolen cash. no one was hurt. this is video from a similar robbery last month at the skinny dip a man walked in on january 25th and asked the cashier to make change for him. police say when the employee opened the register --- the suspect implied he had a weapon and demanded money. he ran out of the store with the cash. no one was hurt. if you recognize the

a 10 on your side follow-up. both suspects in a double murder in newport news are behind bars. we told you yesterday at 4: police were looking for 26-year-old stephen hayes. he turned himself in last night. 33-year-old laratio dantzler is also in custody. detectives say the men shot and killed two people last month on 14th street near wickham avenue. officers shot dantzler at the scene after they say he refused to cooperate. he's out of the hospital and behind bars. norfolk police have identified the man they say tried to rob a bank. james crowder is in jail charged with attempted robbery and threatening to bomb the suntrust bank on west little creek road near granby street yesterday. we reported this yesterday at 4. police say crowder drove up to the drive thru window and gave the teller a note demanding money. the note also said there was a bomb in the bank. police arrested crowder five minutes later. police closed off west little creek road for awhile so the bomb squad could make sure there wasn't a bomb in the bank. there wasn't. a student loan arrest.

is $2, but not paying the bill meant fines in the thousands for some. there are 12 toll facilities in virginia. vdot handles violations for only four of them...the only one in hampton roads is at the coleman bridge. according to virginia law a driver can be taken to court if he or she fails to pay a toll bill. but according to vdot they only take drivers to court if they have 3 or more violations. the violations are open to fees and penalties being added. before the hearing started a vdot representative worked to settle the bills. for some people who showed up in court the judge even dismissed some of the violations. even still, it's hard for people who have to travel the coleman bridge for work. not determined how she died. police say it doesn't appear suspicious. portsmouth police are still searching for a third supsect after a police chase, two car crashes, and two school lockdowns. this story was breaking yesterday at 4. officers say 21-year-old taquan harper had 15 outstanding warrants even before he tried to run from them. police tried to pull over the silver ford focus harper was in yesterday afternoon , but he drove off and crashed into two cars, including an unmarked police cruiser. luckily, no one was seriously hurt. after the second crash, police say harper and a passenger in the car ran off. the back seat passenger stayed in the car and was taken into custody. officers put douglas park elementary and portsmouth christian school on lockdown while they searched for the other two police later found harper. they are still searching for the front seat passenger. free legal help is on the way for veterans and their families in hampton roads. reported the initiative in december when attorney

dakota house. the bill now goes to to governor dennis daugaard. he is expected to sign it. gloucester high school student gavin grimm is fighting to use the boy's restroom at school. gavin is transgender. gavin was born female --- but identifies as male. a judge ruled against gavin in september. an appeals court is now considering his case. last week --- a virginia house of delegates subcommittee killed a general assembly bill that would have required students to use the restroom based on their biology. apple says it will not help investigators break into the i-phone of one of the san bernardino shooters. a california judge has ordered the company to help the f-b-i get into syed farook's phone by providing access to encrypted data on the device. apple c-e-o tim cook says complying with the order could potentially breach the privacy of millions of apple users. investigators have farook's phone. but it's locked with a passcode they can't penetrate. farook and his wife tashfeen malik killed 14-people in december

the duchess of cambridge is trying to stop the stigma attached to mental health disorders. princess kate wrote about the issue when she guest edited an edition of the huffington post. her comments come as she and the news website are trying to raise awareness about mental health in children. the duchess supports several charities that deal with the topic. she says the mental health of our children should be just as important as their physical health. recently, first lady michelle obama wrote an article for the news site, shining a light on the millions of children she says, who suffer in silence. the f-d-a has new guidelines for keeping the zika virus out of the u-s blood supply. the agency is asking people who recently traveled to affected countries to wait four weeks before donating blood. this also applies to everyone who had sexual contact with those travelers. doctors say the four-week wait should be enough for their immune systems to clear the virus. zika is spreading through latin america, central africa and southeast asia. most people

breaking news from the midtown tunnel. e-r-t says all traffic is currently stopped at the midtown tunnel due to a disabled tractor trailer.drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes including the i-264 downtown tunnel. traffic is being alternated through the open lane of the midtown tunnel until the large vehicle wrecker arrives to remove the disabled tractor trailer. a williamsburg hotel is set to be demolished -- and that means more than two dozen people can no longer live there. the city bought the property where the super 8 hotel on richmond road stands now. and officials have been working with families to figure out where they go from here. 10 on your side's erin kelly spent the day talking to some of them. the city of williamsburg says this is about taking

helping the families that lived in the super 8. the city bought the property in january and will likely take it over in april. about 35 people had been living in the hotel long term. the city says some were able to find somewhere else to go. but seven other families met with human services counselors. c0027 - roy gerardi - life that created difficulty for them to really get beyond motel living, and we want to try to help them come up with a long term plan. 5633 the city says most will be moving to different hotels. williamsburg does have an ordinance stating people can only stay in a hotel for 30 consecutive days. coming up at 6 -- you'll hear from someone who isn't just losing her home -- she's losing her job, with the closing of the hotel. erin kelly, 10 on your side. investigators are looking into what sparked a dallas church fire. flames destroyed most of the church before crews got the three alarm fire out. the building has been a

save the church but they did stop the flames from spreading to a building next door. no one was hurt. the transit authority is investigating a scare on the subway in boston. smoke filled two cars and a train station last night. passengers escaped through windows. the fire department says a piece of sheet metal fell on the track. two trains hit and dragged the metal --- causing the motors to overheat and smoke. there was no fire. passengers say it was a chaotic scene. "everything was smoking. people were running this way and they were like, 'oh no, stop!' " the trains became disabled and weren't completely stopped at the platform. so the doors wouldn't open. passengers started kicking out windows. no injuries are reported. the national transportation safety board and detroit metropolitan airport are investigating an incident involving two planes. an american airlines plane clipped the tail of a southwest plane this morning in a de- icing area. there are no reports of injuries. both flights were heading

were moved to other planes. now to a follow up about the florida woman who streamed herself live on periscope driving drunk. she's not going to jail. "driving home drunk." (pause) "let's see if i get a dui" 24-year-old whitney beall recorded that video last fall after leaving a bar. a concerned periscope user called police. beall pleaded guilty, and a judge sentenced her to one year probation. the judge also suspended her license, and impounded her car for 10 days. that's standard for a first-time d-u-i offense in florida. she will also have to serve 150 hours of community service. a porch pirate who was caught on camera stealing a georgia family's packages, had a change of heart. police say the thief stole $300 dollars worth of birthday presents for the homeowner's 12-year-old daughter. days later, the homeowner found the returned presents and a note outside his home.

with manufacturing methamphetamine. 10 on your side's deanna leblanc has been talking to people in the neighborhood. deanna, what did you find out? for the most part - no one wanted to talk to us. the neighborhood is mostly made up of long time homeowners who didn't want their home to get a bad reputation. they say the home where police responded sunday has been an eye sore and a blight - and they're glad police made the arrest. this is the first home on middlesex road - that neighbors say 28 year old autumn wells rented in junk in the front yard and them sitting out front and all that kind of stuff. other neighbors tell me wells had big parties in the front yard. now - the sign on the door says the home is unsafe to live in - after police say they discovered meth materials there sunday ballard: 01;00 it's kind of odd because we don't usually have that kind of stuff happen around here, and it was just different

what was even harder for neighbors like ballard to imagine - was this scene from last night. a second meth bust - just steps from wells' home - at an apartment complex. this is officer holly mcpherson last night: 7:51:30 through the investigation of the incident on sunday they them to this particular apartment. 7:51:40 a second meth bust in three days - shakes the quiet neighborhood. police say as they went into the unit - a car pulled into complex - then turned around. after a brief pursuit, officers tracked down and then arrested 42 year old dana chandonnet and 31 year old michael adkins. they say the apartment rented by chandonnet also had meth making materials. her 13 year old son and 4 year old daughter also lived inside. we did ask police more about the evidence that connected the two meth labs - we wanted to know if all three suspects know each other
