police say things turned more bizarre. 10 on your side's matt gregory has been following this story-- and has the latest developments. matt? deanna, tonight police have the couple in custody. according to investigators this started when one of the men claimed the other assaulted him. when police went to serve a warrant, they stumbled upon a toxic drug operation. in an apartment like this one on west 27th street in norfolk, sometimes you don't really know your neighbors. aaron cooper / neighbor c0060 1:45:22 cooper certainly had no idea what his 2nd floor neighbors hid inside their home. aaron cooper / neighbor c0060 1:43:29 "we seen the police cars out here we just thought they was doing a routine check or apartment because one man living inside - reported the other man hit him. but after officers stepped inside the home aaron cooper / neighbor c0060 1:43:44 "they was saying oh you have to had a surprise that cleared the house and forced officers to call for backup. aaron cooper / neighbor c0060 1:44:35 we had to try off with the hazmat thing we thought 'oh a meth lab.'" 1:44:44 norfolk police found a working meth lab in the

instead of detaining one man for assautling his partner. police took both men in. aaron cooper / neighbor c0060 1:45:01 "its scary 1:45:02 almost 6 hours passed as emergency crews cleared and cleaned the residence. neighbors waited to go back inside. aaron cooper not too upset by the wait, happy to counts his blessings aaron cooper / neighbor c0060 1:46:01 "lucky our grandkids weren't here because we have them like every other weekend and they just out here playing on the porch." 1:46:07 a scary realization that he and his family made their home for more than a year, underneath a toxic den. charges related to the meth lab are pending against both men. polic won't say whether or not either of the men will face assault charges as well.. matt gregory

meanwhile, tomorrow-- newport news fire officials will talk about a series of meth lab busts in that city. three-- over the past week or so, to be exact. the latest-- friday on sydney place. the department will discuss the dangers posed by meth labs to suspects, neighbors, and first responders. however-- we're told they won't discuss specifics of the current cases. in all-- four people have been arrested for three investigations in newport news. they're in jail tonight. and police in hamprton are looking into whether a hazardous material investigation there is connected to the ones in newport news. that discovery was made wednesday on cynthia drive. hampton police say they found items consistent with making meth. so far-- no arrests. we have all of these investigations-- and we'll bring you updates on the meth lab busts as we get them between newscasts-- on wavy dot com. also tonight-- what a great weekend it was. then the rain came-- and there's more on the way. 10 on your side was along granby street in downtown norfolk today. many people took advantage of the spring-like temperatures and enjoyed lunch outisde!!

together, we're all human beings and we all need to work together to make clinton and bernie sanders and republican frontrunner donald trump all have offices set up in hampton roads ahead of the march 1 primary. nats at hillary headquarters on west 21st street in norfolk -- they staff says they've made more than 2,000 calls this week. the campaign has lauched two commercials in hampton roads targeting military and african- american families. ((c195 10:09)) "the thing that's so great about hillary clinton is the fact that she's committed to making sure that everyone has that equal playing field." across town in wards corner -- volunteers are ramping up their efforts for bernie sanders. according to a christopher newport university poll --- sanders trails clinton by twelve percent. his supporters call him a unifyer -- and they believe he can close the gap. but first-- a michigan town is still trying to figure out who would randomly open fire in three locations-- killing six people. tonight-- 45 year old jason dalton is locked up-- charged with the shootings of 8 people. his spree started-- as he was driving for uber-- at the parking lot of an apartment complex where he shot a woman. he then went to a car cracker barrel restuarant-- shooting five more people-- killing four of them. in dalton's neighborhood-- people who live there just don't get why it's happening. (gary pardo, suspect's neighbor): "well, we are in shock, we are wondering what might have caused him to do this. of course, we are thinking about all those innocent is such a great place to live." police say dalton has no criminal record. he is expected to be arraigned monday on
