portsmouth police officially have a new chief. tanya chapman was officially sworn in to start her new job as head of the city's first african-american woman to hold the position. 10 on your side's jason marks was there for chief chapman's ceremony. jason? chief chapman says today was a dream come true. a day she has dreamed about for 27 years when she began her career in law enforcement. chapman was serving as the commonwealth's deputy secretary of public safety and homeland security. before that she spent time with the both the arlington and richmond

robbed a gas station this morning. police say a man walked into the valero gas station on york street near williamsburg around 7:15. he went to the clerk, pulled out a gun, and demanded money. after he got some cash, he ran away. york county deputies took a man into custody during a traffic stop. police say someone saw the car leaving the area of the robbery. police think the man is connected to incidents in york, gloucester, and poquoson as well. if any charges are filed, we'll let you know. now to decision 20-16 news. coming off the south carolina republican and nevada's democratic causus, the presidential candidates are looking ahead to super tuesday. next week, voters in 13 states, including virginia, will head to the polls. it's a close race and many of the front- runners have their campaigns focused on hampton roads. tomorrow senator bernie sanders is scheduled to hold a rally at the scope cruz will both visit university in virginia

police in alabama are investigating a murder they say happened over a stolen cell phone. they say a suspect shot a 23-year-old man twice in the chest sunday night. investigators belive the shooter is a man that about a stolen cell phone. police say the victim tracked down the alleged thief using an app called

recent test of a federal law designed to protect gun makers from liability when their guns are used in crimes. since the lawmakers passed the "protection lawful commerce in arms" act in 2005, nearly every lawsuit like this against gunmakers has been dismissed. a relative found a couple and their four children dead in their home outside of detroit. investigators say they think everyone in the house died of carboon monoxide poisoning. the children range in age from two to eleven. the sheriff says a generator was running in the lower floor of the house. someone left it on after power outages in the area friday night. p.m. tomorrow. portsmouth officially has a new police chief. tanya chapman was sworn in as the new head of the police department this morning. the city announced chapman as the new chief earlier this month. she has a lot of experience with several different departments across the commonwealth. she most recently was the deputy secretary of public safety and homeland security. we now know the name of the victim of a deadly shooting in hampton this morning, police say someone shot 35-year-old jermaine jackson on powhatan parkway near victoria boulevard around 3:50. paramedics took jackson to the hospital where he died about half an hour later. a neighbor describes what he heard happen. "i heard like sums thumps like someone was banging on my door but that's how loud it sounded. then i jumped up and when i jumped up i heard some screaming and that's what made me actually realize it was gunshots" police are still trying to figure out who shot jackson.

we're working to learn more about breaking news in norfolk police say a vehicle ran into the soap n suds at 5-points. that's the business on chesapeake boulevard. we're told someone was hurt - but should be ok. we'll bring you more information as it becomes available. we are working to learn more about a shooting spree in michigan over the weekend. police in kalamazoo say 45-year-old jason dalton killed six people and hurt two more over the course of seven hours, saturday. five people were shot in the parking lot of a cracker barrel. four of them died, and a 14-year-old girl was thought to be dead, but harvest her organs. 2 more people

allegedly shot them at a car dealership. investigators say dalton targeted all of his victims randomly. investigators say dalton killed those people while he was at work. dalton is an uber driver and picked up customers during the entire seven hour spree. a couple from indianapolis got in his car the night of the shooting. they say they got an uber after hearing a shooter was on the loose, thinking it would be their safest option. the couple talked with dalton during the ride, and even mentioned the shootings to him. they asked him a chilling him and said...you are not the shooter are you? and he said no...and i said are you sure...and he said no...i'm just really tired. looking back it was a weird way to respond." police say they found a gun in dalton's uber car and they believe he used that weapon during his spree. eleven people are hurt after the tour bus they were riding on crashed into a bridge in australia. paramedics took the bus

in my luggage a lot of people lost a lot of stuff." officials are trying to figure out why the bus caught on fire. pop singer kesha gained another major supporter in her legal fight against her record producer. a spokesperson for taylor swift says the singer donated 250-thousand dollars to help kesha with any of her financial needs. on friday, kesha lost a court fight to break her contract with sony music and producer doctor luke. kesha claims the producer drugged and raped her. the case has drawn fans to protest outside of the courthouse where the case was heard. other stars like lady gaga, demi lovato, and ariana grande are speaking out in support of kesha and her battle. sports reporter erin andrews is in nashville today for her negligence lawsuit against marriott hotels. back in 2008, a man rigged hotel peepholes and filmed andrews while she changed her clothes. andrews is accusing marriott of allowing david barrett to book

giant 250 pound wrestler. and she actually flips her ponytail right in his face. cena "no sold" it like he usually does in ring. a bald eagle is back out in the wild after rescuers cut her out of a fishing net. crowds gathered in female eagle off. you can see after she got out of her crate, she did a little jumping before flying off. an animal rights society rescued her last week. the eagle first landed on top of a hotel, then flew around some more before being harrassed by some smaller birds, who were probably trying to protect their nests. hundreds of people rode the subway in mexico city yesterday. here's the catch. they didn't have any pants. this is the annual "no pants subway ride." men and women in nothing but their underwear travelled alongside fully dressed passengers. some people stared, others were amuzed, and one mother said it scared her daughter. there is no cause for the ride, but organizers call it a "celebration of silliness."
