wind: ese 15-25mph g.35. wind: ese 15-25mph g.35. prosecutors may ask to continue the murder case against a former portsmouth police officer. sources tell 10 on your side, commonwealth's attorney stephanie morales is having issues with witnesses ahead of the stephen rankin trial. we're told it will come up during proceedings tomorrow. we also learned the court will consider a motion to keep uniformed officers from the courtroom during the trial: set to begin march 21. sources say rankin has witnesses who say he had no choice but to shoot 18 year old william chapman the second saying chapman was the agressor outside the frederick boulevard walmart last year. with the rankin trial in mind, the new portsmouth police chief, tonya chapman, says-- transparency will be a top priority at the department. chapman was sworn in this morning. she is the first african-american woman to be police chief there, and she says she wants to build trust with the community. 20-14. police say latham threatened them with a knife before edington opened fire on west 30th street. latham's family says he suffered from mental illness. a longtime virginia beach police officer is in jail tonight -- accused of driving under the influence. fellow officers pulled sergeant margaret hobbs over last night. jail records show she had a child in the car with her. 10 on your side's liz palka joins us from newsroom. liz, what are her colleages saying about this? nicole - the people we have spoken to within the department are stunned. she's been with virginia beach police for 17 years and is highly respected. they also say hobbs got into some sort of accident right before she was arrested. a virginia beach police sergeant arrested for driving under the influence. virginia court records show sgt. margie hobbs' blood alcohol concentration was more than twice the legal limit. and that she had a child in the vehicle with her. c50 1:03 - the crook isn't going to place a

hobbs when she served as a public information officer. a police spokesman says she now works in the investigative division and has been with the department for 17 years. master police officer jimmy cason released few details on hobbs' arrest - other than it happened on sunday in the early evening. however, police sources tell us some sort of accident happened near the oceana nas dam neck annex. and that hobbs did have a norfolk's swat team and homicide squad. sources tell ten on your side they're shocked by the charge. they say, when hobbs decided to become a sergeant she was at the top of the department's list. adding, they wouldn't expect this from her. hobbs is currently being held in the virginia beach city jail. she will have a bond hearing early tomorrow morning. i'm liz palka, 10 on your virginia beach police say they robbed a

abducted her. 22-year-old ronnie anderson is also accused of sexually assaulting the victim. police couldn't show us the second suspect because he's underage. 10 on your side's erin kelly has been working to learn more from nearby businesses off northampton boulevard. erin? most of the surrounding businesses would have been closed at the time this is alleged to have occurred. but there may be surveillance video -- and tonight it's not clear what that could show. virginia beach police say wingate by wyndham hotel burton station road. around 12:30 am sunday -- officers say a woman was about to get out of her car -- when 22-year-old ronnie lesha anderson came up to her with a knife and demanded something she had. then, police say an underaged male who also woman's purse. when that didn't turn up anything of value, police say anderson forced his way into the woman's car -- and sexually assaulted her. staff at the wingate tell

happening on their property, but they're looking at surveillance video. after the alleged assault, police say the suspects forced the woman to drive to an a-t-m at this 7-eleven on northampton boulevard and baker road. it's there -- that police say the woman was able to escape and get help inside the building -- while the suspects ran off. employees there tell 10 on your side they do not know what happened. police say later sunday morning -- officers with police dogs found the suspects at the econo lodge on northampton boulevard and arrested them. staff there say the suspects were not staying at the hotel. ronnie anderson did not want to talk to us about the case. both suspects face several charges. we have those listed on our website. live in virginia beach, erin kelly, 10 on your side. breaking news coming in from the peninsula. police say someone has robbed the dollar general on warwick boulevard. that's in the lee hall area. around 7:30, officers say he took out a gun

they say someone hit dozens of cars, between two oceanfront hotel garages. officers took reports from the hilton and the sheraton, both on atlantic avenue, on saturday. the valet at the sheraton says-- more than twenty cars parked in one garage had the windows smashed. he tells 10 on your side, it was tough to break the news to drivers. c0001 cody i was about to explain it to them i didn't even want them to see their car right away. i had to warm them up to it. i park in there too. it doesn't feel safe. it happens everywhere you can't control it. the valet says the sheraton has surveillance video of the suspect. police have not released a description.

looking for a killer. police say someone shot 35-year-old jermaine jackson while he was sitting in the driver's seat of a car on powhatan parkway near shell road. he died less than an hour later at the hospital. neighbors tell us they're used to hearing gunshots, but it's usually from farther away....and not like this: paula mcqueen/lives near homicide scene 31:14 i don't know that much about guns, but i know a big gun when i hear it. when it comes to decision 20-16 mayor will sessoms says he is back in it to win it. we told you first, the current leader of virginia beach is running for a third term. mayor sessoms pleaded no contest in a conflict of interest investigation last year. today he told us-- he will explain to people what happened, as often as they have questions about it. (31:57 9 ) ((" well the first thing is i want to it was clear as day there was no personal gain for me or my former employer")) runs: 32:09 sessoms says he is fired up and rallying his supporters. he says he plans to work hard to win the election. a little more than a week away from decision 2016 in virginia. the candidates have been focusing on hampton roads. vermont senator and democratic hopeful bernie sanders is holding a rally at norfolk scope tomorrow.

doors open at 9:30. on the republican side, billionare businessman donald trump will visit regent university in virginia beach on wednesday. he will take part in the school's presidential candidate forum. tickets are sold out. due to the march 1st primary, virginia beach public schools will be on a two- hour-delay for all students. the city says it expects a big turnout on super tuesday, and many schools will also serve as polling places. we can tell you how absentee ballots were sent to some hampton voters -- already filled out. election officials say the printer sent test ballots and official ballots - in the same box - without separate labels. they say that's how the coordinator accidentally sent the wrong ones. they say 17 voters got the wrong ballot, but the mistake won't impact the election. sot - william lewis, whenever you have human beings you're going to have human error. this is a very small number of ballots that went out in error and we're doing

i'm bruce rader, even though third-ranked virginia is the top ranked acc team they had to avoid being upset by 12th ranked miami. that same miami team that was blown away by north carolina this past weekend, and led virginia tonight by 8 late in the game. but the cavaliers make a charge---malcolm brogden nails the three as the virginia comeback begins. then with 90 seconds to play, virginia's london perrentas, up and under the wahoos cut the miami lead to one. but miami is good, the canes ice the hoo's at the foul line. with only 3 seconds left, perrentas takes the inbound, but can't get the hail mary to fall, and despite a career high 28 points from brogdon, he couldn't do it alone---the hurricanes upset virginia---64-61--- perhaps knocking uva out of the race for their third straight acc title--- the road to the high school basketball state
