upper 50s on sunday. upper 50s on sunday. a big delay in the murder trial of former portsmouth police officer stephen rankin. rankin is accused of shooting and killing 18-year-old william chapman last spring outside a walmart. the trial was supposed to start next month - now it's pushed back until august. 10 on your side's deanna leblanc was in court for the hearing today and has the latest from the wavy newsroom. anita the delay is because three of the commonwealth's witnesses, including one expert - cannot make the march 21st start date. the defense did not object to that motion. but, the two sides squared off over a different motion: the commonwealth's attorney asked the judge to keep uniformed police officers out of the court room. about a half dozen police officers showed up in uniform today at former

stephen rankin's motion hearing. commonwealth's attorney stephanie morales - says the presence of the officers is "stifling" morales told the judge the presence of officers in uniform - who may not actually be on duty - would intimidate a jury and bolster's the credibility of a man charged with murder. c001 1:20:04 if they're working and wearing their uniform we understand it. but at the same time we officers being in there. 20:18 morales wants only 10 uniformed officers in the court sitting in groups of three or less. the defense argued that any limitations could infringe upon first amendment rights. c002 1:25:09 based on all of the research i did there is no precident in a situation like this. judge morrison did not rule on the motion today - saying he had to think about what could happen if he rules in favor. if he'd then have to limit supporters of the vicitm. or screen police officers

uniform were really on duty. morales also wants morrison to rule that stephen rankin cannot talk about william chapman's alleged shoplifting at walmart on the stand. she says it would bias the jury to think chapman was violent. the defense disagrees - saying removing that the day's events. c002 1:26:30 you can't start the story in the last chapter. the jury has a right to know from the beginning to end so they can put everything into context. 1:26:38 the judge did not rule on that motion today iether. saying both would take time to think over. but again - the big news - the trial is pushed back now for five more months. per ert - east bound tunnel is closed due to multi vehilce accident happpened just before

plans to replenish beaches in the outer banks have run into a delay. and it all comes down to dollars. there's just not enough of them in the budget. ten on your side's lex gray spent the day on the outer banks. she's been talking to homeowners who are desperate for this project to be completed. lex? anita and stephanie-- the woman you're about to beach won't make it through another hurricane season without the town's can see how things have changed at gail wall's beach home in duck since her family bought it in 2009. it's caucus night for republican voters in nevada. and a couple of the presidential candidates spent the day doing clean-up. ted cruz -- on damage control -- after being forced to fire his communications director rick tyler. tyler distributed a you-tube video that misrepresented something marco rubio said about the bible. cruz is defending tyler as a "good man" who made a "grave error of judgement" john kasich -- also playing clean-up -- after saying women left their kitchens to support him -- in his run for office back in the 19-70's. kasich was immediately called out by one of his supporters -- and later said he was sorry if he offended anyone. some in the gop are calling on kasich to drop out -- and send his support to rubio. kasich was also questioned about why he isn't even in nevada today cnn po-59tu 4-15 (governor john kasich)yeah, but you know, the caucuses are different. that's a whole different beast, so we've

water is reaching out to help a town in a water crisis. a real estate agency in hampton roads is getting ready to roll out hundreds of cases for residents in flint michigan. i first told you about the dream girls of real estate's water drive three weeks ago - and donations started pouring in, (rolling water out ) the outpouring of generosity is overwhelming to claudine ellis. c20 claudine 1:46:42 i mean...look at all the water :44 this chesapeake mom and real estate agent saw images like this of children in flint michigan suffering from simply drinking and bathing in water. and she had a little idea. c20 1:46:38 it was a very little idea she called 10 on your side to help get the word out about her water drive... and in one short week her office space went from this -- to this. now, three weeks later..
