got the call around 10:50. we are working to find out if anyone is hurt, and how badly the house is damaged. once we get an update, we'll bring it to you on the air, and on wavy dot com. we now know the name of the man killed in a car accident in newport news yeserday. inverstigators say 28-year-old edward brown of portsmouth died when the car he was driving crashed into a utility pole. it happened at the intersection of 41st street and jefferson avenue. police say he was not wearing a seatbelt. norfolk's treasurer wants to wait a little longer for his day in court. anthony burfoot's attorney has filed a motion to delay his public corruption trial. investigative reporter chris horne has more on this move...which hinges on another high profile corruption case. burfoot's attorney andrew sacks is asking the federal judge handling the case to wait for the outcome of the appeal of former governor bob mcdonnell. mcdonnell's case is under review by the supreme court, and sacks says it has

with the burfoot case. namely - what exactly is an official act? as we told you in january, burfoot is under indictment on corruption and perjury charges. the government says norfolk's treasurer took nearly half a million dollars from bribes and illegal payments for several years - while he was a council member and vice mayor. according to the indictment, burfoot accepted money and gifts a construction firm that had business with the city. so here's the timeline - right now burfoot's case is set for may 3. mcdonnell's appeal is under review by the supreme court, and any ruling would be expected by june. so burfoot wants a continuance until after mcdonnell's case is settled. more on this on wavy news 10 beginning at 4. chris horne 10 on your side portsmouth city retirees have something to say after the city cut part of their medical coverage benefits. the issue came up at last night's city council meeting. a new policy in 2015

5:55. they were able to get it under control in 15 minutes. investigators say an electrical problem caused the fire. the apartment is condemned. firefighters in portsmouth say a shed fire on mount vernon avenue was an accident. it happened in the port norfolk neighborhood. the fire started around 3:15 this morning behind a home. crews quickly got the fire under control, and no one was hurt. a man is recovering in the hospital after police say someone shot him in portsmouth. it happened late last night on lexington drive. that's off deep creek boulevard. officers say the bullet hit the victim in his lower body. he should be okay. we're working to learn if police have any suspect information. call the crime line if you have any details. a follow-up to an arrest of a man york county deputies say robbed several businesses. we first told you about 18-year-old william hayes's arrest at midday yesterday. according to court papers, he admitted to six robberies. the sheriff says deputies tracked hayes down, after reports of a valero gas station robbery,

people in michigan are remembering one of the victims of a deadly shooting spree. students, friends and family gathered at the high school tyler smith attended. the 17-year-old was one of six people shot and killed in saturday's shooting in kalamazoo. mourners went to the field where tyler spent much of his time playing on the soccer team. family and friends sat in the bleachers and shared their favorite stories about him. they capped off the night by releasing paper

(s/theresa price/attended vigil:32-:45) "we just came to support the community. we live here, my kids go to school here and it's words at all. it's a sad moment... a sad time in our community" meanwhile, we are learning more about the alleged shooter's actions leading up to the killings. these are surveillance photos from a gun store. they show jason dalton looking around the store. investigators say he didn't buy a gun in the store, but he did purchase a tactical jacket designed to hide a gun. dalton is charged with six counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder. investigators say he confessed to the crime, but he didn't tell them why he did it. two teenagers in south carolina are charged with abusing a puppy. investigators say they shot the little dog 18 times with a b-b gun. this happened at an apartment complex in rock hill, which is just south

charlotte. police say 17 year old de'monte douglas and a 14-year-old shot the six week old lab mix several times. douglas faces a felony charge for cruelty to animals. police released the younger teen to his parents, but he'll have to appear in court. fortunately, veterinarians say the dog is expected to recover. hreiz says: "i've never seen anybody deliberately and maliciously shoot at douglas faces a felony charge for cruelty to animals. dog... one that's 6 weeks old. i mean this is about as defenseless as an animal can get." hreiz says: "he's a lucky dog, this isn't something most puppies his age would survive." the teens face five years in prison if convicted. the severe weather potentially coming to our area caused massive damage in florida and lousiana. three people died and several buildings and homes are destroyed. the strong winds caused cars to flip over. this is what it looked like in lousiana during

you can see the high winds ripped an entire wall off a gym southeast of baton rouge. there were people inside when the storm rolled through, but nobody was hurt. the storm also damaged several buildings other buildings throughout the area. take a look at this video taken in a hotel in rain sideways. meteorologists say winds around the area reached up to 80 miles an hour. and here is the aftermath of a confirmed tornado that hit pensacola. several homes are ripped apart, and cars put on their roofs. three buildings at an apartment complex are severely damaged. the tornado also took down power lines, and thousands of people still don't have power. fortunately, nobody was seriously hurt in that area. 21 people are dead after the plane they were flying in crashed in nepal. officials say the plane was flying in poor conditions, with little visibility. helicopters searched for the plane for hours after it was supposed to land. witnesses found the plane after they spotted fire coming from a heavily wooded area. most of the victims are nepalese and there were two children on the plane. the plane was heading to jomsom, which is a starting point for mountain hikers. a swedish teenager is talking about how she got tricked into joining isis. the girl is also talking about how she managed to survive. the 16-year-old girl's name and face is not being revealed. but she says her boyfriend convinced her to join him in iraq to join the terrorist group. she says at first, everything was normal between them, but then he started to look at isis propaganda on the internet. she says she didn't know anything about isis or what they stand for. she claims what isis meant, she had no problem following her boyfriend to the middle east.
