there's destruction everywhere. governor terry mcauliffe walked the streets, got an up close look at the debris and talked to residents. 10 on your side's jason marks, erin kelly and tom schaad are in waverly right now. we begin our coverage at 4 with jason. tonight we are learning more about the three people who lost their lives in yesterday's storm. there were in mobile home right next that pile of debris and home is just gone. let me show you a closer look at where the home once stood. you can see steps leading to an empty space and the cinder blocks. all that's left is a bed of sand. there 4 people in that home when the storm blew through. 3 of them died. they are 50 year old larry tuner, who was father of three. 26-year-old devine stringfield and his 2- year-old nephew ian lewis. rescue crews found their bodies about 300 yards from where the home once was. we spoke with tuner's mother a short time ago and she remembers coming home and seeing all this

where her son lived. her car. tonya slaton made a first appearance in a hampton courtroom today. the trial on the 2nd degree murder charge she faces is set for late september. after the hearing attorneys on both sides spoke to reporters. 10 on your side's brandi cummings was there. she joins us live courthouse. for the first time today slaton's son, quincy davis. meanwhile tonya slaton's attorney told the media slaton loved her son and the autopsy never said a homicide occurred. slaton faced a judge this morning inside a hampton circuit court room on charges of second degree murder in the death of her son. virginia state police say troopers found quincy's body in the trunk of slaton's car during a traffic stop last june. online court records show slaton was indicted for her son's murder on february first. the deputy commonwealth's attorney who is prosecuting the case says

lockdowns this morning. detectives say two passengers in a car on white chapel road robbed the driver. the victim wasn't hurt and ran from the scene. the suspects took off in the driver's car but later abandoned it. schools in the area went under lockdown as a precaution while suspects. police haven't found them. new at 4. an unusual investigation in virginia beach. marine patrol is looking for information about an abandoned boat. this sailboat was found sinking in the marina at the lynnhaven boat ramp back on february 6th. police say the boat appeared to be smoking in the water as five teenagers stood in and around it. once the boat started sinking --- the teens jumped into a truck with a trailer attached and drove off. investigators say it appears their goal was to sink the boat. the keel and mast were cut off and their were holes in the boat. police need help identifying the teens and the boat's owner. if you have any information --- call the crime line. this year it'll cost more for employees to park in the resort city. city officials say its part of a short term

their families members. we spent the past month digging into the gang problem in our region. in newport news alone -- there's 44 known gangs and more than one- thousand gang members. police say a lot of these gangs are smaller, homegrown gangs with as few as three members. others have 70 or more members. increasingly, recruitment for these gangs happens online on social media sites, that's why police say prevention needs to start earlier --- and parents need to watch for warning signs. control when the boat ran aground. now to video of winter weather. parts of the midwest are digging out from more than a foot of snow. take a look at the merrillville. snow buried everything in sight --- including cars. firefighters rescued people stranded in their cars --- as the snow blew around them. the same situation in nearby crown point, indiana. more drivers were stranded for hours. there were big travel troubles when a semi-truck jacknifed and live wires fell on the road. firefighters say it was some of the worst winter conditions they've seen. check out this video from crete, illinois --- south of chicago. strong winds and heavy snow brought down a powerline. you can see it on fire in the street. police report a lot of crashes --- including this jacknifed tractor trailer. now to the severe weather in other parts of the country. this is the damage in lancaster county, pennsylvania outside

service confirmed a tornado touched down here. firefighters responded to reports of collapsed homes, toppled trees and downed power lines. dozens of homes have damage. roofs are gone, debris is lodged in trees, trees are stripped of their branches. emergency crews say no deaths or injuries are reported mainly because residents sought shelter during the tornado warning. now to new york where a strong line of thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts blew through. a downed power line landed on a car and caused it to catch fire. firefighters eventually put out the flames. no one was hurt. high winds are likely to blame for this. a tractor trailer flipped on its side on the george washington bridge in new york city. the overturned truck delayed traffic for more than an hour. more storm damage --- this video is from granville county, north carolina. some homes are damaged --- others destroyed. there's also damage on farms. the national weather service confirmed that a tornado touched down here. strong storms caused flooding in the washington, dc area.
