seven month investigation into a deadly officer-involved shooting. an officer killed kawaza beaty after he pointed a sawed off shotgun at police. 10 on your side's jason marks talked with beaty's family who were disappointed at the investigation. beaty's family met with the commonwealth's attorney this morning and he told them the shooting was justifed. they came out of that meeting very emotional as you can imagine. this is video of the family just after the meeting. they were sad yet angry at the same time. they felt as if their son was taken for no readon. the shooting happened last july 4th. police got a call about a man in the east end of the city with a gun. we're told a detective along with a k-9 officer and a sergeant spotted kawanza beaty walking down a street. police say they tried talking with him but he started running. during the chase officers say they could see the gun and it fired three times and hit beaty in the head. family was not happy the shooting was ruled jusitifed.

the only way down. three family members jumped out a window. an elderly woman was trapped inside and died. take a look -- this was the scene from earlier, viewer video captures the intense fire -- heavy flames broke out around 2-am. witnesses heard screams as 30 firefighters rushed to the scene. we're told a woman and two children on the second floor escaped - jumped - through a window. again, an elderly woman was trapped, she was pulled from a window by firefighters but had serious burns and didn't make it. the couple on the first floor made it out with a few minor burns. take a listen- sandra cahoon -victim "i seen flames and i yelled to my husband that the house was on fire and we came running to the living room and we opened the door and then shut it back real quick cause the flames of course were right at the front door." sandra cahoon there and her husband were alerted by a neighbor banging on doors, yelling for them

suspect. 22-year-old tevin patterson faces robbery and gun charges. 10 on your side showed you this surveillance video back in october. detectives say patterson walked in the c-v-s pharmacy on frederick boulevard , implied he had a gun and demanded money. both the clerk and the suspect ran away. no one was hurt. the owner of a chesapeake building has a mess to clean up after a crash. police say a driver lost control along canal drive around 4-30 this morning and hit the side. here are pictures of the damage. the fire department did not condemn the building. there are no charges or injuries reported. virginia governor terry mcauliffe has created a zika task force. the virginia department of health will lead the group. the task force will be responsible for coordinating with virginia localities on mosquito surveillance and control programs. this is ahead of the start of the mosquito season on may 1st. zika virus illness is usually mild. but the c-d-c says there is a possible link between the virus in pregnant women and birth defects.

we are learning more about the gunman in a deadly factory shooting in kansas. the harvey county sheriff says cedric ford was served with a protection from abuse order from his girlfriend two hours before he went on the shooting spree. investigators say ford walked into the excel industries complex where he worked and opened fire. he killed three people and wounded more than a dozen others. workers describe a chaotic scene. because of a power outage. staff, students and parents got the message early this morning. new developments in the flint water crisis. michigan governor rick snyder has authorized spending 30-million-dollars to help pay residents' water bills. governor snyder signed the legislation in flint today. the plan will pay for 65 percent of the water portion of the bills --- covering water used for drinking, cooking or bathing. the governor says people shouldn't have to pay for water they cannot drink. gov rick snyder, michigan "this is about having urgency, this is about using common sense, this is about working together, and it's about solving this issue and taking this problem on directly." wavy dot com. go to links in the news. wal-mart faces a lawsuit over its "great value" brand grated parmesan cheese. a man filed the suit in new york claiming he spent more money for the "100 percent grated parmesan cheese" because he believed it was 100 percent pure. according to the complaint, the product contains seven to 10 percent of cellulose, which is a filler derived from wood pulp. the man accused walmart of deceptive business practices. walmart says it's reviewing the allegations in the lawsuit. macy's is changing its coupon policy. the retailer will no longer accept coupons for clearance items. macy's says coupons would still apply to full-price and sale items. a macy's spokesperson said clearance items will still be deeply discounted. but now discounts will be reflected in the final price, instead of occurring at the register. the change is an effort to make the shopping experience easier for customers.

pursuit in the city. domenico greene, ryan taybron, zaquone scott, and a juvenile-- are all charged in the incident. the break-in happened just before one this afternoon on winchester drive. police say the four took a number of high tech items-- and took off. officers found them trying to leave the scene-- and after a short chase-- they stopped them. all four face a list of charges. greene faces an additional felony of evading and eluding police. taybron is a familiar name to police-- and our newscasts. he and another man were accused of a shooting on 79th street in newport news last november-- and charges were set aside against taybron in a deadly shooting in hampton. members of a newport news church will be more cautious as they go to their services. it's because at least two bullets went through several windows at st. paul ame church on chestnut avenue. police say they even found what they think is a 9 millimeter bullet on the floor in the pastor's office. at some point between last wednesday night and friday morning someone fired a gun near

went through a window in the pastor's office. then two days later on sunday, church members called police back after finding that another bullet had also pierced the children's sunday school room. that bullet went through one window and out the other. church members say they don't believe they were targeted. instead they think their building was simply caught in the crossfire of something going on outside their doors. tommie farley, st. paul ame church we feel as its just one of those unfortunate situations that are occurring throughout the country. throughout the cities in the hampton roads area and its unfortunate but we're going to persevere and get through it. no one was at the church during the shooting. this isn't the first time the church has dealt with crime. coming up tonight on wavy news 10 at 6:15, 10 on your side's brandi cummings will tell you what else church members have dealt with in the past. police say the suspect in the shooting of a south carolina sheriff's deputy is dead. a berkeley county sheriff's deputy was shot and wounded early this morning

her patrol car . she is recovering in the hospital from surgery. north charleston police say a swat team entered a home where the suspect was barricaded and found him dead from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound. a 23-year-old ukrainian national is in jail in pennsylvania --- accused of posing as a high school student. police say artur samarin changed his name to asher potts and got a birth certificate with a false birth date and a social security number. investigators say he enrolled at a high school in harrisburg in 2012. police say samarin was actively involved in the school. he was a member of the r-o-t-c, national honor society, and had a 4.16 g-p-a. mos 1 says: "he's an adult, so that's scary" ellen winterub/parent: "his mentality, his level of thinking. you have beautiful girls in this school that are minors that are underage and you have basically a grown man in here -- misrepresenting himself." police say samarin stayed in the united states after his visa expired

the new name. they believe the identity was made up. samarin is charged with identity theft and tampering with public records. no injuries are reported after an emergency landing in guam. check out the video from the airport. the nose gear of the plane didn't deploy -- so the flight crew had only the rear wheels to touch down! the front of the plane hit the ground as it landed. only three people were on the flight. there was no smoke or fire. airport operations were unaffected. check out this video of a volcano eruption in indonesia. the sinabung volcano erupted twice today. it sent avalanches of smoke as high as nine-thousand-feet . the volcano has been erupting continually since 2010 after being dormant for 400 years. it is one of 130 active volcanos in indonesia. the u-s has sent a message to china, russia, north korea and other potential enemies. it came from this ballistic missile test in california. the minuteman 3 nuclear

winchester drive. police say the four took a number of high tech items-- and took off. officers found them trying to leave the scene-- and after a short chase-- they stopped them. all four face a list of charges. greene faces an additional felony of evading and eluding police. taybron is a familiar name to police-- and our newscasts. he and another man were accused of a shooting on 79th street in newport news last november-- and charges were set aside against taybron in a deadly shooting in hampton. the family of the man shot by police is not happy, after that shooting has been ruled justified. the shooting happened in newport news on july 4th. police say they tried talking with kawanza beaty - but he took off. during the chase-- officers say they could see the gun, and it appeared as if he pointed it one of officers. that's when officer randy gibson fired three times-- and hit beaty in the head. 10 on your side's jason marks spent the morning with beaty's family - who is not happy with the findings. jason? they truly believe their son was killed by police
