peninsula. we begin with 10 on your side's andy fox live in norfolk. we are here at the old dominion precinct at the larchmont rec center. let's take you onisde this is a dual primary, so when you got inside you have to declare which primary you are in. here you are given a blue sheet for the democratic primary or a green sheet for the republican primary. voting turnout as of 2pm only 6%. keep in mind in the 2008 primary for president the turnout was 36%. norfolk has a lot of catching up to do. no real problems in norfolk except a lot of people aren't showing up. the only real issue in norfolk was construction in east ocean view. they had to get police to direct people into

the busier precincts in the city. and as we have been out here - there has certainly voters. i checked in with the mallory. he told me they haven't had any issues at the saunders polling location. like many other precincts, they are voting on a paper ballot with a ball point pen. each ballot is then scanned...and will be counted when voting stops at seven. when i called the registrar's office earlier - i was told the city is seeing a strong turnout on this super tuesday. here's how particular. ken mallory - precinct chief - we were expecting around 25%, were at about 17 right now. so we might get there by the end of the day. we're at about 675, 680 voters so it's been slow but steady. we're getting a lot of people coming through the door, which is great. they haven't had an empty gym at any point today. there has always

and they take that as a good sign. in newport news, liz palka, 10 on your side. republican front runner donald trump is holding a rally in kentucky. here's a live picture from the event in louisville. democratic front runner hillary clinton was in norfolk last night for a campaign rally at lake taylor high school. right now --- hillary clinton holds a ten- point lead over bernie sanders among registered democrats. nbc news-survey monkey weekly election tracking poll. support for sanders is at an all-time high- of 41 percent. donald trump hits a new high among registered republicans. he has the support of 40-percent of those polled. that's nearly double the 21-percent who name senator marco rubio as their presidential pick. senator ted cruz is in third place with 18 percent. we'll be following the results all night and we'll bring them to you as they come

it until it died. gerarden entered the plea right before his trial was scheduled to start. 10 on your side's jason marks was in court and has the latest. jason as you mentioned gerarden pleaded no contest. meaning he is acknowledging that there is enough evidence to convict him if the case moved forward. he ended up pleading to felony animal cruelty. in april gerarden put a rope around "pirate" the cat's throat. court records show page held the cat down and gerarden pulled the rope until the cat was no longer breathing. page and gerarden were roommates and both in the navy. the incident happened the in the woods off of prosperity road near their apartment. they told a neighbor are the dead cat and gave her a reason why it happened. "appearently he was holding it down to remove a tick off it. him and page and the cat bit him and that's what caused it so" gerarden will be

facing 5 years in prison. page is scheduled for trial on the same charge in two weeks. jason marks 10 on your side. virginia beach police are investigating a deadly crash between a car and an e-m-s vehicle. it happened around 9:15 this morning at the intersection of north mall drive and lynnhaven parkway. police say the e-m-s s-u-v was traveling on lynnhaven when a car gong the opposite direction made a left turn onto north mall drive. the e-m-s vehicle hit the car. the passenger in the car --- 88-year-old doris baxter died. the driver of the car also went to the hospital. the brigade chief who was driving the s-u-v is on administrative duties pending the outcome of the investigation. e-m-s was not responding to a call at the time of the crash. investigators are looking for witnesses. a truck driver is charged with reckless driving after an early morning crash with an ambulance in newport news. the ambulance had a patient on board at the time. police say the truck driver merged onto warwick boulevard from mercury and turned inot the

local police officers were among the hundreds who gathered today in woodbridge to remember a virginia police officer killed on her first day on the job. norfolk police posted this picture on the department's facebook page of the honor guard after it arrived in prince william county this morning. a memorial service and funeral was held today for officer ashley guindon. she was shot and killed saturday while responding to a domestic violence call. the family of a man shot and killed by a norfolk police officer is now suing the officer indicted in his death.

david latham in 2014. carrington has been charged with manslaughter - his trial is set for later this year. but now, latham's family is also fighting for damages. 10 on your side's deanna leblanc is here with the details. this is new - there are already criminal charges against officer edington - that is set to move forward to trial in september. now - he's also facing a civil lawsuit from the victim's family. according to court papers - they want 9- million-dollars for what they say the have suffered in the year and a half since his death. the shooting happened at this home on west 30th street in june of 2014. latham's family called police for help. they say he was suffering from a mental illness and they wanted help getting him emergency psychiatric care. police say when they arrived, latham was holding a knife. court documents show edington shot latham in the entryway of the home several times. latham may not have an attorney yet in this new lawsuit - but i did reach out to the lawyer fighting his criminal case - hear what he had to say - tonight

hatch closes on the international space station. kelly and a russian cosmonaut will return to earth tomorrow. this ends kelly's year long mission. a man is safe after a local coast guard crew rescued him from the back river. this is video of a coast guard mh-60 jayhawk crew from elizabeth city lowering a rescue swimmer to lift the man up the helicopter. his 15 foot boat ran aground early sunday evening near jamestown island. the man tried to get going again at high tide monday morning --- but the boat wouldn't move. so he called the coast guard. the crew took him to the williamsburg airport.

gray talked to another firefighter who was on the roof when it happened. right, he tells me he dropped what he was doing immediately, and grabbed him. fortunately - the firefighter didn't fall all the way through, and he is going to be just fine. but it could have been much worse. lieutenant brian sanzo says the fire was still going when it happened. and you can see that firefighters were still working on it for more than an hour after they 10 on your side viewer sent us this video as they were working. sanzo says part of the roof was rotting -- and the firefighters and all their equipment add a lot of weight. lt. brian sanzo/newport you go up on a roof? sanzo: absolutely, absolutely. you do, you do. but it's a lot of times it's the only way to open it up and get to it, so we just stay real cautious while we're doing it and make sure we keep an eye on our folks again - the firefighter

a neighborhood in raleigh, north carolina is on edge after a deadly officer-involved shooting. witnesses say officers shot (pic from na61m) and killed 24-year-old akiel denkins last night as he was running away. (scene vids from nbc/na47m) police have not identified the man killed --- but say they were chasing a drug suspect. investigators say a gun was found near his body. witnesses say he didn't have a weapon. (rolanda byrd/mother of akiel denkins) "my son didn't have no gun on him, my son wasn't threatening that officer." this was how the commuity reacted. last night hundreds of people protested near the scene of the deadly officer involved shooting. around two on friday morning a woman and two children were treated and released from the hospital, but officials say an elderly woman died. family members say the claudia ridley. 10 on your side's brandi victim's brother today. anita, it would be hard for anyone to learn that a family member died so tragically, but what makes things even harder for this family is not knowing what started the fire. i spoke to norfolk fire officials today. they still dont' know what caused the massive fire on kingston avenue. officials have told us a man and woman who lived on the first floor were able to get out of the duplex ok. family members say 65 year old claudia ridley helped her roommate, as well as that woman's 13 year old rommate was babysitting-- all out to safety. firefighters from the second floor window. they say she was burned and later died. today claudia ridley's brother roy told me he wanted to talk about her.

she was a woman of god and she did good by everyone she met. - roylen ridley, claudia ridley's brother no one knew who she was. they spoke about the elderly lady. neighbors said some wonderful things about my sister which i was grateful for but no one knew who she was. there is a gofund me account set up to help the family with funeral expenses. we are working to post information on how you can help pn our website wavy.com. im brandi cummings 10 on your side. a 14-year-old accused of a shooting in a junior high school cafeteria - remains in custody. the teen made his first court appearnce today on attempted murder and assault charges. we told you yesterday at 4: witnesses say the 14-year-old pulled out a gun yesterday, opened fire, shot two students and then ran from the school. a police dog helped catch the teen near- by. two other students were hurt from shrapnel and from running away from the gunfire. none of the injuries are life threatening. school leaders plan to reopen

flying the friendly skies. agents in baltimore stopped a traveler who had them in her carry on-bags. that's because the t-s-a doesn't let anyone fly while carrying any replica guns or ammunition. she had to leave them with the baggage people to get them checked. the secret service says agents are working with police investigating a confrontation involving a photographer during a donald trump rally at radford university. time magazine photographer chris morris says he was trying to get in a better spot to photograph some of the many protesters kicked out of yesterday's event. a secret service agent wouldn't let him step outside the media area. morris apparently cursed at the agent. that's when the agent grabbed morris by the neck, threw him into a table, and bodyslammed him to the floor! morris was then escorted out. morris is veteran white house photographer. time magazine says he is doing okay --- and should be back at work soon. a cookie crime. police in florida are looking for the man who stole money from a girl scout.

a walmart. detectives say the suspect took the cash box as he left the store with a woman and a child. even investigators can't comprehend the crime took place. andrew gant / volusia county sheriff's office "taking from a kid, 12 years old, a girl scout, is one of the lower forms," karen moore / deltona resident "it's unfortunate, people are desperate, and to pick on a little girl scout? that's just really heartbreaking," police aren't saying how much money was in the cash box. wild video out of texas shows a driver smashing into a gas station pump! surveillance cameras captured. you can see the driver taking out the pump seconds before it explodes in a fireball. you can also see the driver frantically try to free other passengers from the car. it took two hours for firefighters to get the flames under control. police have not said if anyone was hurt or what caused the driver to police in san francisco
