how we handle trash in hampton roads isnt as simple as hauling and dumping. there's many agreements in place and they expire in 2018. according to one portsmouth councilman the decision to stay with the other cities, or go its own way is a matter of millions of dollars. side. we have new information about a bill coming from the virginia capitol. it would make school districts tell parents if their children will be assigned to read books with sexually explicit material. it's already passed through the virginia house and senate - and now, it's on its way to the governor's desk. if a parent doesn't want their child reading a book with that material in it - the schools would be required to provide an alternative option. governor terry mcauliffe is actually in san francisco right now - trying to bring jobs back to the commonwealth. he is meeting with business and government officials in the city. mcauliffe along with several other state leaders are hosting several meetings with cyber security industry representatives while in the state. the governor trips of this kind provide a good chance to convince corporate leaders to invest in virginia. the number of school related crimes and the number of student's dropping out in north carolina both increased over the last school year. the state school board discussed the reasons in the annual crime report -

didn't get any clear answers. the number of school crimes was up by 2-percent - more than half of those cases involved drugs or alcohol. dangerous or violent offenses account for 2-percent of all school crimes. dropouts are up by 8-percent. the number of corporal punishments in north carolina public schools is also up after years of decreasing. the report says there were 147 uses of corporal punishment across the state - up 20 percent. 100 of the state's 115 school districts don't allow paddling. 2 out of the 3 cases of corporal punishment in schools happened in robeson county - just south of fayettville. covering decision 20-16 this evening -- former republican presidential nominee mitt romney slammed donald trump today - calling the presidential front- runner a phony and a fraud. at the same time - trump is striking back - saying romney begged for an endorsement four years ago - only to "choke". at a speech today in salt lake city, romney gave his insight into the

that they didn't have prior to being admitted. many of those infections are caused by superbugs. overall, the c-d-c reports hospitals are doing a better job at preventing many of these infections. an update on sports authority filing for bankruptcy. we told you yesterday at four, it will close 140 stores. new at 5:30 - we're learning which stores in hampton roads will be commonwealth. that includes: the store on coliseum drive in hampton, the sports authority on east virginia beach boulevard in norfolk, and the store near lynnhaven mall in virginia beach. sports authority was once the largest sporting goods retailer. there was a slight jump in unemployment last week. according to the labor department, applications for unemployment benefits rose by 6-thousand. economists say despite the bump, the unemployment numbers remain low enough to suggest that layoffs are rare and the job market is healthy. unemployment is at an 8-year low of 4- point-9 percent. the labor department is

fifiteen years ago today 21 national guardsmen died when their plane crashed in a field in georgia. at a ceremony at camp pendleton in virginia beach, they honored the 18 heroes of the locally based 203rd red horse squadron as 10 on your sides walter hildebrand reports - the day is still very difficult for people close to the fallen heroes. as far as reunions go, this is a difficult to have to remember lt. colonel stock dinsmore/203rd red horse squadron (29-51:46) "you kind of go through it

stay with us... wavy news 10 at 6 is next. a big system is barrelling toward hampton roads-- with lots of different colors on the radar-- and that could mean trouble. a little bit of everything has happened along the way. and within hours-- parts of our area could see a wintry mix-- and a tricky commute in the morning. no matter what we get-- it's going to get ugly-- and stay ugly-- through the morning. this storm has created big issues to our west. take a look at central michigan-- where nearly a foot of snow fell, creating a big mess for drivers. it's a reminder that it may be march-- but winter isn't over. and super doppler 10 shows that some precipitation is trying to make its way into the area-- so get ready. meteorologist ashley baylor is tracking the wintry mix for us tonight. ashley? tonight: rain across the southside and north
