for the approaching storm and pre-treated roads outside our area. if you have to get out on the roads tomorrow - remember to take it slow and easy and give yourself plenty of time. our neighbors to the south are also dealing with old man winter. snow started to fall in laurel park shortly after lunch today. that's south of asheville in the blue ridge mountains. the snow is expected to fall through the night and into the early morning. a school bus driver is accused of attacking a middle school student. police in newport news charged 58- year-old james hopkins with assault. but the student involved is also in trouble tonight. only 10 on your side's liz kilmer has video of the incident. tom, anita - cell phone video we received shows a heated fight on a crowded school bus. the bus driver is charged with misdemeanor assault. while a 12-year-old student has been suspended for his role. video captured on a school bus. students scream as the

year-old james hopkins - is seen hitting and choking this 12-year-old boy. c10 01:0719 "i mean that's pretty, pretty messed up i mean just that video it looks bad it looks really bad." police in newport news say it happened wednesday afternoon. the boy - reportedly a student at crittenden middle school - can be seen hitting hopkins back. c10 01:08:00 "i mean by he was trying to protect himself from the child swinging at him." school spokeswoman michelle price says surveillance video on the bus shows wrongdoing on both sides. the student reportedly acted inappropriately before hopkins pulled over, and the situation turned physical. police say no one was hurt. hopkins was charged with misdemeanor assault and released. price tells us the student is facing a long-term suspension. (yelling nats) parent sahilys price says her friend is a bus driver for newport news public schools - and she had to

gop presidential nominee :11 "let me put it very republicans choose donald trump as our nominee, the prospects for a safe and prosperous future are greatly diminished." trump struck back - saying romney begged for an endorsement four years ago - only to "choke". the new york state supreme court is considering whether to hear a lawsuit that claims senator ted cruz is not eligible to be president of the united states. the case boils down to one phrase in the u.s. constitution --- natural born citizen. cruz was born in canada to an american citizen mother. his father was a native of cuba. this case was filed by two men who are trying to have ted cruz removed from the new york state republican primary ballot. meanwhile on the other side of the aisle - hillary clinton has potential trouble of her own. today it came out that the aide who set up her fifth before congress - is now

news reports it' s very likely clinton will have to testify. her team says they are glad her former aide is now cooperating. a virginia beach burglary suspect talks from behind bars only to 10 on your side and confesses to the crime. this all happened yesterday morning on chimney creek drive in virginia beach. 18-year-old tyrell slaughter says he was trying to decide whether to go to school or to go into the home. he decided to go in. he says while inside he started grabbing valuables but then a renovation crew that was working on the house walked in. he took off running and the 5 workers from service masters chased after him. they caught him a short time later and held him down until police arrived. slaughter tells 10 on your side he simply made a mistake. super=tyrell hard in the green run area to get a job and money so i guess i found that's easier than going to get a job" butted 25=:36:30 "yeah extremely grateful. we had some very emotionally family jewelry and stuff that this guy had on his

have it back" slaughter was charged with burglary and grand larceny. he remains in jail on a five thousand dollar bond. chesapeake police are investigating a crash involving an officer. here's a picture from the scene this morning at moses grandy trail and millville road. police say paramedics took both the officer and a passenger from another car to the hospital. they are expected to be okay. the officer was not responding to a call when the crash happened. next week construction will begin on the new bonner bridge. these are pictures of the bonner bridge being built more than 50 years ago. for years, 10 on your side has covered the battle between environmentalists and residents to build a new bridge connecting hatteras island with the rest of the outer banks. the current bonner bridge was only designed to last 30 years. n-c-d-o-t says the new bridge will be finished by 20-18. the old bridge will be demolished in 20-19. the u-s-n-s laramie -

a familiar face enters the race for portsmouth's mayor. tonight, john rowe announced he will run for the office. rowe served as city manager for two and a half years before an abrupt departure. 10 on your side's liz palka was at his first campaign event tonight - liz? tom and anita - john rowe called for a change in leadership in portsmouth tonight. he said, the city has been the subject of criticism recently, that is not only embarrassing, it's justified. and that is one of the things he wants to change. in front of a crowd of supporters at mario's italian restaurant john rowe made it official.
