the debate. but first, we start this midday with breaking news. in the case of aj hadsell -- a teenager from norfolk who dissapeared last year and was later found dead by police. court documents filed yesterday in norfolk federal court say a potential witness is cooperating with authorities and could have important information about the teenager's death. the documents say this person could testify against aj's adoptive father wesley hadsell in exchange for a lighter setence in a different case. this person is currently in jail. aj dissapeared last march and was found dead behind an abandoned home in franklin 38 days later. norfolk police arrested wesley hadsell on unrelated charges - but never named him a suspect in the case. sources tell 10 on your side that g-p-s coordinates from his work truck place him feet from the home on smiths ferry road where investigators aj's body. still, no one has been charged in her

this midday, we're getting a better idea of how much damage last week's deadly storm system did to virginia's farm industry. the virginia farm bureau says its gotten 126 claims totaling $1-point-6 million dollars. chopper 10 was above the damage in waverly. the tornadoes killed five people in virginia, including three in waverly. in essex county, the virginia department of forestry says the storm caused about $750-thousand dollars in damage to timber alone. only on 10, a newport news school bus driver is accused of attacking a this cell phone video allegedly shows 58- year-old john hopkins hitting and choking a 12-year-old boy. you can also see the student hitting back. we've decided to blur his face. police say it happened wednesday afternoon. a school spokeswoman says surveillance video from the school bus shows the crittenden middle school student acting inappropriately before hopkins pulled over and got physical. c10 01:08:00 "i mean by

he doesn't need to put his hands on the child but it also looked like he was trying to protect himself from the child swinging at him." school administrators put hopkins on administrative leave. the student is facing a long-term suspension from school. we have new information about a story we've been following since last weekend... you may remember hearing about officer ashley guindon -- a prince william county police officer killed on her first day of the job. she's now being laid to massachusetts. 10 on your side's rico bush has more on how people there honored her. a hero's journey home. the body of officer from virginia to barnes municipal airport in westfield, massachusetts wednesday afternoon. her casket - drapped with an american flag was greeted by an honor guard. massachusetts and state police escorted the family and the hearse to an agawam funeral home. guindon was born in massachusetts. law enforcement runs in

uncle is a west springfield detective. west springfield police captain robert duffy sent a statement that reads; "a member of our law enforcement family was taken from us tragically. all of us know her uncle, and all of us know what it takes to do this job." guindon was shot and killed during her first shift as a prince william county police officer this past saturday. guindon and 2 other officers responded to a "verbal argument". all three officers were shot. an army staff sergeant assigned to the pentagon has been charged with murder. the suspect's wife was also shot and killed. officer guindon's wake will be sunday in massachusetts. on monday morning in springfield. to her father. developing at midday, the search for a teenager no one's seen in about a month. take a good look at this picture of 16- year-old bryanna young.

hampton on february 5th. the national center for missing and exploited children sent us this picture of her. if you know where she is, the hampton police 727-6111. the only person to survive a shooting on live t-v is back to work. former tv station employee shot and killed two journalists at smith virginia. they had been interviewing vicki gardner. she also got shot, but survived. for a few weeks, she's been on part- time status. but now, her employer is celebrating its 50th anniversary - so gardner says she needed to come back. gardner says she got thousands of cards from all over the world while was recovering.

this midday. hundreds of protesters blocked traffic outside the theater where the republican presidential debate was held in detroit. you can see them holding signs and chanting "flint lives matter" and "dump trump." people in the crowd said -- they want politicians to pay attention to the flint water crisis and civil rights issues. protesters came from a few different organizations, like the national action network, and the fight for 15. that group wants presidential candidates to support the fight for a 15-dollar hourly wage and the right to unionize. police officers were on scene but they didn't intervene because the protest stayed peaceful. lawmakers in richmond will consider a bill that could keep bicyclists safer. the new law would fine drivers who fling open their doors and hurt people riding by. lawmakers say people would pay a 50-dollar fine if they open a door "when it's not reasonably safe to do so." the virginia senate passed the bill last month, and it's now facing a vote in the house of delegates.

have a whole lot of faith in driverless cars. that's according to a new survey from triple-a. 75-percent of people hwo responded say they would be afraid of riding in a driverless car. but -- people were okay with some aspects of a self-driving car. about 61-percent of people who took the survey say they want some of the features such as self-park. the job market showed more growth in february. u.s. employers added 242-thousand jobs last month. retailers and the hospitality industry drove a lot of that. retailers added about 55-thousand jobs. bars and restaurants hired more than 40-thousand people. these numbers show americans who hadn't been looking for work are back to it, and actually finding jobs. the labor department says the unemployment rate remains steady at 4.9 percent. a virginia state trooper hurt in a horrific crash is talking about the accident. trooper john glasscock got out of the hospital earlier this week. now, he's well enough to talk about

mcauliffe's veto of their bill - which would give the general assembly power to sign off on how the clean power plan is implemented. republicans say they originally put the bill in to protect the virgnia economy particularly the coal mining industry in southwest virginia. governor mcaullife didn't see it that way and vetoed the bill. he says it would violate the seperation of powers guaranteed by the virginia constitution. sugar, equal, splenda, and sweet- and-low....you've got a lot of options when it comes to sweeteners. the artificial ones though have a bad reputation. some ingredients have been linked to illnesses when they were tested on rats. but registered dietitian kristi king are misleading. the u-n is paying attention to a fight between apple and the f-b-i. its top human rights official has warned u-s officials that the case against apple could infringe upon the rights of millions of people around the world, and ease the way for authoritarian rulers and criminal hackers. last month -- the f-b-i got a court order requiring apple to write new software that would disable password protection. that way, investigators could access an i-phone used by one of the san bernardino shooters in december. but apple pushed back. the company argues writing that software would threaten customer security and set a dangerous precedent. the clash is part of a bigger debate over how intelligence officials should be allowed to monitor digital communication. the u-n official says he fears a ruling against

will have full coverage beginning on wavy news 10 at 4. japanese prime minister shinzo abe says he has decided to temporarily suspend reclamation work to relocate a u-s marine corps base. he says was accepting a court proposal not to force the reclamation amid okinawa's objections. in february the court proposed the temporary suspension as an interim step allowing the sides to talk. the relocation is based on a 20-year-old bilateral agreement to reduce the burden of the u-s military presence on okinawa. opponents want the base moved off okinawa entirely. an ancient christian town scars of fierce fighting that devastated it two years ago. journalists on a trip to russian government maaloula (mah-loo'-lah) yesterday. the town was recently re-captured by the syrian army from al qaeda's branch in syria. a greek orthodox monastery that dates back to the early centuries of christianity had the dome and walls of its church gutted by fire.

rebels detonated a car bomb near a police station in southeastern turkey. that's according to the country's state- run press agency. the bombs killed two police officers and seriously hurt at least four people. up until july -- the country had been in the process of achieving peace. but that collapsed -- renewing a old conflict that's killed tens of thousands of people. 20-thousand military-style uniforms on their way to fighters from isis and other militant groups. police opened three shipping containers during a counterterrorism operation last month. authorities found the uniforms and other military accessories. they arrested seven people. in a statement, the police operation "neutralized a very active and efficient business network whose primary purpose was to supply, maintain and strengthen" isis. the uniforms had been declared as "secondhand clothing". philippine coast guard authorities say they have inspected a north korean cargo vessel that docked at a
