great lakes. it won't be sunday with highs near 50. next week is in the 60s and 70s! former governor bob mcdonnell has his date before the supreme court. it will hear the appeal of his corruption conviction april 27th. in 2014 --- a jury convicted mcdonnell and his wife, maureen, of doing political favors for a wealthy executive- all in exchange for more than $165-thousand dollars in gifts and loans. mcdonell's lawyers will argue the federal jury unfairly convicted him on an overly-broad definition of bribery. the court is expected to issue a decision by the end of june. the outcome of bob mcdonnell's case is of particular interest to anthony burfoot -- norfolk treasurer charged with public corruption and perjury. today we are learning about new documents filed in burfoot's case. 10 on your side's jason marks spent the day examining what these

so here are the motions filed wednesday in federal court. they are written with a bunch of legal talk but we've talked with experts who helped us explain what's going on nat sound of documents 8 new motions filed by attorney andrew sacks for his client norfolk city treasurer anthony burfoot. burtfoot is facing federal corruption charges that he took bribes and kickbacks while he served as the city's vice mayor. the latest motions filled by sacks claim that burfoot was entrapped by federal prosecutors. he asking for perjury charges to be thrown out. here's why they feel that way. burfoot was a defense witness during the bank of the commonwealth trial in 2013. sacks says when burfoot took the stand under oath federal prosecutors cross examined him and asked him questions they knew he would lie about. questions like has he ever taken a bribe, specifically did he take a 25,000 bribe which at the time had nothing to do with bank of the commonwealth trial. burfoot of course answered no. prosecutors are now using his

oath against him. the feds say burfoot received at least 475 thousand dollars in bribes and kick backs during a four year period. they say he accepted the money and gifts in exchange for votes. they claim he also did accept 25 thousand dollars to give to an ex-girlfriend. sacks says since the federal prosecutors cornered burfoot on the stand-- the perjury charges should be thrown out. burfoot is facing eight federal public corruption and perjury charges. burfoot will be back in court march 15th. the judge will then rule on these motions. burfoot is scheduled for trial may 3rd. sheriff's deputies are investigating a bomb threat at gates county high school. it was found written on a wall. students were released early as a precaution. help is pouring in to aid the families of the three prince william county police officers affected by a deadly shooting. the police benevolent foundation is stepping in.

body was flown home to massachusetts yesterday. burial is scheduled for monday. she was killed, saturday, on her first day in the field while responding to a domestic violence call in woodbridge. the suspect, ronald hamilton, is accused of shooting his wife the same day. hamilton is being held without bail and faces multiple charges including capital murder. the families of three maine residents who died when "el faro" sank in october have accepted settlements from the ship's owner. court documents say tote services inc. has agreed to pay $500-thousand dollars to each family for pain and suffering, and a unspecified amount for economic loss. the company is pursuing settlements with the families of all 33 victims. el faro went down near the bahamas during a hurricane in october. men from chesapeake and virginia beach are among those who died. the u-s-n-s laramie will come home after a 3-and-a-half month deployment. the laramie's crew of civil service mariners supported u-s naval operations around the world. that included refueling ships

replenishing them with supplies and cargo. this is video of a previous homecoming. the laramie is scheduled to pull into naval station norfolk tonight. tomorrow morning, the newport news shipyard will christen its newest submarine, the washington. elisabeth mabus, daughter of secretary of the navy ray mabus, will do the honors of smashing a bottle of champagne across the sub's bow. the washington is the latest virginia-class submarine. this is a picture of the boat under construction at the shipyard. crews first laid her keel in november of 2014. tomorrow's ceremony starts at 11:00 am. a call for caution in following the discovery of a rabid skunk. it was found in the area west of anderson's corner. health officials are concerned if anyone or any pet came into contact with this animal. to protect yourself from rabies: vaccinate your pets. report any scratches or animal bites. don't feed wild animals. and keep pet food indoors.

milestone. doctors in wisconsin are investigating an unusual outbreak of a rare bacterial infection suspected in the deaths of 18 people. so far 44 people have been infected -- mostly those over age 65. all of the patients have had other serious underlying health conditions. it's caused by a bacteria called "elizabeth kingia" -- named after a scientist who discovered
