police say a parent at the school notified them -- they contacted the school. the school principal then sent a note to parents, saying normal school operations were not disrupted. superintendent aaron spence says he wants to send the message that threats won't be tolerated, that police will investigate them. he talked about a campaign the school system started dealing with this issue. c0014 - aaron spence - virginia beach schools superintendent 739 we created a social media campaign here over the winter called be social, be smart, be safe, and just like it says, we're trying to encourage students to be social. we understand that's a part of their world, but we also want to make sure that they understand that they've got to be smart and responsible and also keep themselves safe. 755 two students have been charged, not clear if they remain in custody. the school district says disciplinary consequences can include explosion -- but it's not clear what the students in this case face -- officials are still looking into that. live

kelly, 10 on your side. we're following developing news in gloucester. the sheriff's office just told us more about an assault that turned into a search and suicide. it started this morning at a home in the t-c walker, seawall avenue area. a woman tells investigators, her estranged husband broke in and attacked her with a mallet. she locked him out and ran to a neighbor's, but not before deputies say he fired shots through her back door. deputies say he got into her vehicle, and they started searching for him. when they finally found him at the intersection of t-c walker and main street, they say he had already shot himself. investigators say they're not releasing the names of those involved out of respect for the couple's children. they say the woman has a concussion. in sussex county, state police are trying to find out why a young man hit a tree on route 460. 24-year-old alfred davis junior later died at the hospital. the crash happened near cabin point road around midnight. four adults and two children were hurt when a

s-u-v crashed in chesapeake this morning. it happened around 9:30 at the intersection of battlefield boulevard and hanbury road. three adults and two children on the bus were hurt. the driver of the s-u-v was also injured. they're all expected to recover. we're working to find out how this crash happened and if any charges will be filed. we are working to learn more about a police pursuit through two cities. chesapeake officers tried to stop a motorcycle for having bad equipment on george washington highway near military highway around 12:30 this morning. police say the rider refused to stop, and they chased him into portsmouth. it lasted for several minutes before officers lost sight of the bike on high street and stopped the chase. no one was hurt. principal james woods from central middle school in gates county is on administrative leave. that's according to the school's superintendent. dr. barry williams would n tell us what lead to his leave. we're working to find out more. a loaded gun within reach of a 5-year-old lead southampton county sheriff's to arrest the child's

all started early friday morning when chad timberlake got into an argument with the mother of his child. they say timberlake left the boy in hisisruck with the gun nearby. when the sheriff's office responded to the call about a domestic dispute --- the deputy spotted the gun on the dashboard and removed it from the child's reach. deputies arrested timberlake and charged him with reckless care of a child. today the senate passed a bill that would defund planned parenthood. we first told you about this bill friday. it aims to keep money from the commonwealth's health department from going to the clinics. the same bill has passed the house, so it's headed to governor terry mcauliffe's desk now. the bill's sponsor says the funds would go towards more comprehensive healthcare for women. a 10 on your side follow-up to an animal cruelty case out of dare county. jordan boykin is facing 4 counts of felony animal cruelty. he was arrested saturday. boykin is the suspect in an animal cruelty case in the avon, north carolina area back in december. dare county investigators found three cats dead in a

appeared to have been shot. boykin was released on a 30 thousand dollar bond. police in several local departments are dealing with a spike of gun violence from the weekend. they're investigating eight different shootings. norfolk police arrested two men for a deadly shooting on kingston avenue in ocean view saturday. three other shooting victims are in the hospital with life-threatening injuries. one is a teenager from newport news, and the other two are men from virginia beach and hampton. this man is behind bars for shooting a man on atlantic avenue. 20-year-old levi roberts is charged with unlawful wounding and reckless handling of a firearm. virginia beach police say the shooting happened early yesterday morning near a motel. the victim life- threatening injuries. virginia beach police are looking for someone who oceanfront night spot dispatchers say it happened around two this morning in the parking lot of "the cave nightclub" on atlantic avenue. no one was hit. weekend shooting involving two victims in

police say there was a fight on hamilton drive when a fight broke out. someone shot a 17-year-old in the back and leg. he's in the hospital. the other victim is an 18-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her left thigh. she's expected to be okay. hampton police are asking your help. they're trying to find someone who shot a man on nickerson boulevard saturday afternoon. the victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. we just received an update from police that the victim is now in stable condition. call police if you can help. portsmouth police are investigating a shooting that happened sunday afternoon. someone shot a man on portsmouth boulevard near staunton avenue. police tell us the man is in the hospital, but they had no information about trying to track down a robber. police say a man walked into the warwick avenue 7-11 sunday night with a gun and demanded money. detectives say when the clerk handed over cash --- the suspect hit the employee in the head with the gun and took money from the register, before running out.

in the ditches, even though trucks were here pumping it out today and friday. today, i worked to get answers from investigators, the city, and environmental experts about what's going on. robert mccall still doesn't know exactly what's turned the water behind his house a milky gray. on friday - workers were parked in front of his house and down the street, pumping something out. he says he was concerned by what they told him: (45) 19:19 we are dealing with an environmental catastrophe and this is a flammable sealant. but 10 on your side found out -- that's very unlikely. captain scott saunders with the chesapeake fire department says investigators are now certain -- this is paint, not something more hazardous. 18:33 but you would like that reassurance? absolutely. in a proper world, they would come to us and assure us. and that hasn't happened yet? oh no, no, not in the least. :46 saunders says protocol for notifying people depends on the threat -- and in this case, the threat is already contained. investigators

one of the most preventable forms of pollution: trash -- is the topic of discussion at the virginia marine debris summit today in gloucester. nearly 100 scientists are at the virginia institute of marine science for the two day summit. the focus is on ways to prevent pollution in places like the chesapeake bay, which you can see in this recent video from chopper 10. officials say the problem health and wildlife. you're about to see what happens when sewage pollutes a lake. . this is bangalore in southern india, where a barrier to keep the sewage out broke, and thousands of fish washed up on the banks. activists said local authorities ignored earlier pleas to repair it. it's not the first time bangalore's lakes have illustrated the high levels of pollution present under the surface. last year, a toxic froth spilled onto some of the city's streets due to extreme levels of pollution in another lake. coming up on wavy news 10 -
