because of a gas leak. here's a live look from the scene. the fire department tells us a contractor was digging and hit the gas line. nobody was hurt and nobody is being evacuated. however, the road will be closed for a few hours as crews work to fix the gas line. again, that's campostella, between diamond hill and battlefield boulevard. as soon as the road opens up, we'll let you know. developments in a story we first told you about as breaking news this morning on fox 43. two people are going to recover after they got hit by a car in norfolk. this happened at the intersection of north hampton boulevard and 26th street around 8:20 this morning. a jeep and a nissan crashed into each other at the intersection, and one of the cars hit a mother and a child standing on the corner. they were taken to the hospital to get checked out. police tell us one of the drivers will be charged in the accident, but investigators are still trying to figure out which one. as soon you know.

outer banks. crews are starting work on the brand new bonner bridge. governor pat mccrory was at the groundbreaking ceremony this morning. and so was 10 on your side's erin kelly. erin, this is a start to a project several years in the making. the existing bridge is more than 50 years old -- some say standing on borrowed time. there was a big turnout. gov. mccrory told the crowd - "they said it wouldn't happen. it's happening today." the new bridge is designed to have a 100-year lifespan, expected to open in fall 2018. instead of 1 navigational span, the 3.5-mile project will have 7 spans. governor mccrory calls it a lifeline for hatteras island. governor pat mccrory - north carolina (r) public safety is the number one

new at midday -- we can show incredible video of crews rescuing students and a driver from a school bus. this happened this morning in denton, texas. fire crews say the bus got stuck in 3 feet of flood water. rescuers came and carried the students to a boar that was on a trailer connected to a truck. crews towed the truck and bus back onto dry land. despite being stranded in flood waters, the children got on another bus and went right to school. the italian coast guard rescued 43 migrants and refugees in the agean sea earlier today. the coast guard says the migrants were all in rubber boats and were trying to sail in poor weather conditions. one of the boats actually started sinking. crews rescued all of the migrants and took them back to greece.

police found a man, shot, in the driver's seat of a minivan on kingston avenue over the weekend. that's in ocean view. 38-year-old robert knight, the third died at the hospital. police charged elisha hernandez and mondozer masters with second degree murder and attempted robbery. despite the arrests, people we talked with did not feel better about their neighborhood. their big white suits like they were going to mars or something it was really scary i was shocked" investigators say they also found weed at warren's home. he's in jail this morning. wesley hadsell needs a new lawyer. a judge was supposed to sentence him this month after he pleaded guilty to a federal weapons charge. a judge granted his attorney's request to withdraw from the case because of a conflict of interest. according to court documents, his federal public defender represents another person's interests that go against hadsell's. specifically this person could become a potential witness against hadsell if he is prosecuted of a crime in his adoptive daughter's case. police found aj hadsell's remains last year, after she was missing for a few weeks. a man will spend eight years behind bars for causing a deadly crash in suffolk. police wesley johns used heroin and was texting and driving before the crash in february of 20-15. investigators say johns

vehicle on whaleyville boulevard, killing 84-year-old bernice brooks and her daughter, 60-year-old teresa brown. hampton's economic development director addressed concerns about a high number of businesses closing in the community. the naacp asked leonard sledge to speak at its regular meeting. he talked about big name businesses closing in hampton, such as macy's and sports authority. sledge said that was a corporate decision made outside the city. sot --- leonard sledge - continue to remember and understand with regards to sports authority is that they're closing all of their stores in hampton roads. so we are constantly working to back fill those spaces with the property owners. :16 he also answered questions on the riverdale shopping center, which a company recently purchased. small business owners in the center said they haven't had any communication with the new owners. still ahead - a train goes off the tracks in

dead and six others are hurt after a fire at an apartment complex in ohio. this happened in brunswick, which isn't too far from cleveland. investigators say the family lived the bottom floor of the apartment building. the six people hurt went to the hospital. the fire damaged 24 other apartments. firefighters say the apartments did not have sprinklers because the building is old. a church let the people who lost their homes stay with them through the night. we're staying on top of developments in a commuter train crash we first told you about as breaking news on wavy news 10 today. at least everyone is expected to recover. authorities say a tree fell on the tracks and the train hit it, causing the train to come off the tracks. officials say heavy rains may be the reason the ree fell. officials say the train underwater as firefighters helped pull people from the train. howell says: "it was scary! we weren't quite sure what was going to

finally stopped and realized ok, at least we're upright, then we other are you okay howell says: "the engineer ... he had to kind of get out through the water. there was one girl who was actually pinned in that car for a little bit there. they had to dig her out and they left her on place until the officials got a bus to from the scene. people in a colorado neighborhood had to leave their homes after two fisherman found a suspicious device in a river and brought it home. john hackworth says he first saw what he thought was an old knife handle while fly fishing over the weekend. but a day later, when he took his nephew back to find it it, they found what looked like a military device. the two pulled it from the river and brought it home, and the nephew's parents called 9-1-1. police and the bomb squad came and had people evacuate 19 homes in the neighborhood. hacksworth says he should have just left the device

(s/john hackworth/found suspicious device:50-1:04) "i was like it could be live, it could be a dud, it could be a practice round, it could destroy the entire city of canon city.... but i don't know why but my boy instinct kicked in and i wanted to -- 'cool i wanna bring it home, it's so cool'" the bomb squad took the device away and destroyed it. theives looking for money stole an entire a-t-m from a convience store in california. and the crime was caught on camera. check this out. you can see the theives use a truck to try to pull open the store doors. when that didn't work, they decided to drive the truck into the door. they got inside and wrestled the a-t-m into the back of their truck. it's not clear how much money was in the a-t-m, but there is thousands of dollars worth of damage to the store. police say it will be tough to catch the thieves, because they were well disguised. people in texas are cleaning up after a strong storm ripped though parts of the state. this is a look at the

last night. you can see homes are torn up because of the storms. high winds and torrential rains were reported throughout the area. the storm triggered a tornado warning, but no tornadoes were reported. mos says: "it was like what you see in a hurricane. the wind was just going horizontal. i mean you couldn't see anything. it was scary. more bad weather is expected in texas this week. a storm caused by el-nino hit southern california. the storm caused a downburst in the city of inglewood. that damged homes and blew the roof off a local business. trees landed and cars and crushed them. some residents say the rain leaked through their roofs and damaged their furniture. tatum says: "well first we thought it was like an earthquake at first and then you could hear it this rumbling and my wife said she saw just looked scary so i just

away a little bit, we saw all the damages all over. douglas says: "i heard on the news that it might have been a mini tornado but here in inglewood. i couldn't believe it. i just thought it was a wind." officials say despite the damage, nobody was seriously hurt. alive. we can show you new video of a plane crash we first told you about sunday morning. take a look at this. you can see the airplane just fall out of the sky and hit the ground. this happened saturday on long island. the pilot says the engine died and he was no where near an airport. fortunately, the plane had a parachute and the crash was softened by it. you can see both the pilot and his daugter were able to walk away. they weren't hurt. a sanitation worker in florida is very lucky to be alive. he somehow survived a crash where his truck fell 100-feet off a highway. take a look at this. miami garbage truck

was driving on i-95 last month. he lost control of the truck, went over the guradrail, and off truck fell 100-feet into a public park. smith was ejected from the truck. somehow, he survived the crash, and no one else is hurt. thankful her brother is still alive. smith's sister says: ""i thought my brother was gone. i was like, "he's dead. can't nobody survive that. he's dead, i honestly thought he was dead. i just kept calling and his fianc called me and told me, she said, kaseem is still alive he was still breathing on the ground." smith has been working as a garbage truck driver for years. highway patrol is trying to figure out he lost control of the truck. coming up on midday-- work on the new bonner bridge has started. well give you a look at the groundbreaking

people who live there say the effects of the sanctions can already be felt throughout the country. a media organization in the country says prices at north korean grocery stores have gone way up after the sanctions were put on. residents are reportedly stocking up on food and necessities. vice president joe biden continues his tour of the middle east. biden landed in dubai this morning. he met with sheikh mohammed, the leader of dubai and the prime minister of the united arab emirites. the u-a-e is one of the u-s's most important allies in the persion gulf. yesterday, biden made a stop at the country's airforce base that houses u-s troops battling isis in syria. after today's stop, he will travel to israel, the west bank, and jordan. a dutch dentist accused mutilating dozens of french patients is now on trial. jacobus marinus is facing charges of intentional violence and fraud.

victims are seeking damages. those people say the dentist removed healthy teeth, left pieces of tools in them, and got infections after marinus worked on their mouths. the trial will last about 10 days. marinus could be sentenced to ten years in prison if convicted. sponsors are dropping a tennis star after she admitted to failing a drug test at the austrailian open. nike is the biggest company to suspend its relationship with maria sharapova. sharpova failed the test in january. she says she had been taking the drug meldonium for ten years, and she didn't know the sport banned the drug at the beginning of this year. sharapova says she used the drug to treat magnessium deficiency and heart issues. but the company that makes the drug says the normal course of treatment is six weeks, not 10 years. her deal with nike is worth more than $70-million dollars. sharapova makes more money than any other female athlete in the world.

american tour on hold. the band says frontman brian johnson is at risk of going deaf. his doctors told him to stop touring immediately, or he could permenently lose his hearing. the band says it is going to recruit a guest vocalist to fill in for him when the postponed shows are rescheduled. but, they don't know who that singer will be. johnson has been with a-c-d-c since 19- 80. and one of the members of the rolling stones most famous lineup says he has cancer. bill wyman has prostate cancer. his spokesperson says doctors caught the cancer early, and wyman is expected to make a full recovery. the 79-year-old joined the stones in 19-62. he played bass for them for 31 years until he left to pursue other projects, including forming his own band. people in the u-k got a rare sight on sunday night. this is video of the aurora borealis, or the northern lights. you can see in the time lapse the sky lit up shades of green and red. this happens when
