:06 the chiefs and prosecutors we spoke with left the meeting feeling good about getting out their message and working in partnership with the a-g's office. mr. herring went on to speak with the norfolk police youth academy and addressed a group of older virginians in virginia beach about how to protect themselves from crime. happening right now -- happening right now -- portsmouth city council is getting ready for its regular meeting. several big issues have popped up in the last two weeks, that could come to the table tonight. 10 on your side's liz palka has the latest on what we can expect. council fines, a controversial suspension, retiree benefits. these are not issues listed on the formal agenda. but we expect they will be brought up tonight. vo just as they did at the last meeting, city retirees are planning to speak up. this is after the city said they are cutting a significant portion of their healthcare coverage. this is also the first meeting since

was fined $1500 for violating the closed meeting rule. some councilmember say he spoke about issues that came up during a closed session. meeks denies that, and is fighting it. we also want to get questions answered after a firefighter was suspended for talking with us for an interview. the firefighter is the union president, and was speaking in that role for the story. he has been suspended without pay. tag- the meeting is set to start at 7 o'clock tonight. we will have more on wavy news 10 at 11. in portsmouth, liz palka, ten on your side. we continue to follow developing news out of northern california -- crews are still working to clear the train tracks -- after a commuter train derailed and plunged into a creek. investigators believe a mudslide caused the train to derail last night about 30 miles northeast of san jose. it's still unclear if mud flowed onto the

the train as it passed. one of the cars landed on its side -- in a creek -- and began to flood. rescue crews were able to get everyone out. there were more than 200 people on board. nine people were hurt. none of them seriously. union pacific is heading up in the investigation. more developing news out of chicago -- where firefigheters are still mopping up after a massive fire at a building on the city's west side. at least one person was rescued from this indoor flea market that spans two city blocks. firefighters were ordered out of the building and hazmat crews were called in. the buildings roof deck collapsed -- sending cars crashing into the fire below. the building is a total loss. the flea market was not open. there have been no reports of injuires. new information today in the case against a baltimore police officer charged in the death of freddie gray -- maryland's court of appeals deciding officer william porter must testify against all five of his fellow officers the ruling could have

porter was the first officer to face trial in gray's death. his trial ended with a hung jury in december. the issue of whether he could be compelled to testify against his colleagues brought all the other trials to a standstill. tuesday's rulings mean the cases will be sent back to a lower court and the trials can move forward. porter is expected to go on trial again in june. time to talk politics - voters in four states head to the polls today -- republicans primaries are happening in michigan, idaho and mississippi. hawaii is also holding its caucuses. on the democratic side -- primaries are being held in michigan and mississippi. michigan has the most delegates up for grabs. polls close there at eight. look for updates on wavy dot com and the wavy app. a follow up now on a story that reads more like a hollywood script -- the man accused of orchestrating the heist of four-point-eight million dollars in gold bars -- will remain in jail.

adal-berto perez held until his trial. he's the man investigators say set up the heist along interstate 95 in north carolina a year ago. the f-b-i says perez used a g-p-s device to track the truck - releasing pepper spray by remote control inside the cab -- forcing the driver to pull over. perez and two others tied-up the driver and his passenger -- taking off with the gold bars. more arrests are expected. perez will be officially arraigned next week. we're also learning more about a school shooting in middletown ohio. authorities have seized computers -- knives -- a b-b gun - and other items from the home of james austin hancock. he's the 14 year old accused of opening fire on students in a school cafeteria last week. according to court documents - at least 20 witnesses have identified hancock as the gunman. two students were shot - but are expected to make a full recovery. hancock is being held without bail on attempted murder charges. today marks two years since malaysia airlines

disappeared. families of some of the victims gathered in beijing -- marking the anniversary at a buddihist temple. they came together for emotional support and to pray for their missing loved ones. of the 239 passengers on board - the majority were chinese. many family members still refuse to believe their loved ones will not return. there is an ongoing search for mh-370. it's lead by an international search team -- made up of investigators from malayasia - the u-s - britain - china - france and australia. investigators believe the plane was flown thousands of miles off course -- before crashing in the southern indian ocean. the search area spans some 46- thousand square miles. the search is expected to wrap up later this year. coming up on wavy news ten at five- thirty - it's a "blast" from the past. the new educational -- hands on -- experience that's getting ready to open at colonial williamsburg. but first -- a security feature - or an invasion of

the battle between the federal government and apple is not over. the justice department wants a second opinion in its fight to get into the i-phone of syed farook. a judge ruled last week that he can't force apple to hack into a drug dealer's phone. apple argues the

phones less safe. on tuesday, the justice department asked a federal judge to revisit the decision. a new service being offered by some banks is raising concerns about privacy. u-s bancorp is planning to use a service that tracks your phone to ensure that charges made to your credit card are legitimate. it will help determine when your credit card is not in your possession -- and help prevent charges from being declined when you're on vacation. customers will need to "opt-in" to the plan. banks say they'll use the location data for security, not for marketing. north korea hacked into the smartphones of some high-ranking south korean government officials -- conducting cyber- attacks early this year. that's according to the national intelligence service. an emergency meeting is happening in south korea today to discuss the rising cyber threat from the north. the n-i-s says that pyongyang is more likely than ever to use cyber terrorism. sources say the north has already begun preparations for terrorist attacks. pilots wanted -- no experience required. jet blue launched a pilot

>> wavy news 10. from the station on your side, this is >> the remains of a vicious apartment building fire. >> it took minutes for firefighters to get there. you can see the result from above does not look good. nothing more than the framework of part of the building is left. here is where it happened, cozy corner. it's made for a busy afternoon for firefighters and we have been on the scene several hours. what is the latest? liz: officials are working to determine what caused the flames . you can take a look at this destruction. four apartments and one is a total loss.

>> i was afraid it was a bomb. that was my first thought. liz: neighbors ran out of their homes to see the intense flames and plumes of smoke billowing from these apartments. >> i looked up and the flames were shooting up in the air and it really scared me. liz: firefighters called for a second alarm and spent one hour getting the fire under control. flames destroyed one apartment, including this person's. >> i ran inside. i got my car key and then i started to run out and took off. liz: she and two others got out safely, including an elderly woman on oxygen.
