>> yesterday was interesting. it was so humid when we began things. so much moisture. then the humidity levels started to drop. the reason was the passage of the front. that front is hanging out over the delmarva peninsula, extending through southeastern virginia, down into the deep south what we are seeing with the pasture of that front, mostly cloudy. we will see the sun break out so we'll call it passing clouds. 73 downtown. it's 65 at b.w.i. marshall. across the state line already cooler in york at 55. 84 to 87 today. but that's going to be more, again, of a dryer heat. the dew points are low since the cold front moved through. sunset tonight at 8:35. partly cloudy. 58 to 64. as we head into tomorrow, more of the same. so a dry first half of this week. when are the showers going to hit again? i'll break that down for you coming up. let's say good morning to sarah.

catholic high school's closing parents and students continue to fight to keep the doors open. >> this weekend they made their voices heard in pro tests. 11 news's kim dacey joins us live in towson with more. >> last tuesday students at towson catholic high school got word that their school would not be re-opening this fall. yesterday morning students and school supporters stood outside the immaculate conception church and peacefully protested the closure. towson catholic is the oldest co-ed catholic school in baltimore. the school has taken its toll on enrollment. a spokesperson says enrollment has dropped dramatically. over the last decade they lost only 26 students. but just in the last few weeks 81 students have left. with tuition as the only source of income, the students are left with a bigger financial burden. >> this place has been my home

for the past two years and now it's all gone. i've work sod hard to be here and it's all gone. everything's done. >> the archdiocese says it's working to place the students and staff in other catholic schools for the fall. the protesters say they will reconvene tomorrow to try to figure out their next course of action. live in to us son, kim dacey, wbal-tv 11 news. >> thank you. police in anne arundel county want to know how an 82-year-old woman's body ended up in the freezer at her home. the remains of doris lea cooke were discovered at her home in glen burnie. family members say she had been bed ridden for several years and was under the care of her two daughters. police say it's important not to jump to any conclusions. >> it is tragic what happened, of course. the family right now is trying to deal with everything and make sure -- nobody assumes anything.

>> we all loved her. >> police say the family told her she died several weeks ago and the family placed her in the freezer. meanwhile, the trial of a washington, d.c., woman accused of killing her four daughters and living with their remains is scheduled to begin today. benita jacks's daughters were found when marshall arrived to carry out an eviction. authorities say the girls had been dead since the previous summer. the case led to changes in ow d.c. agencies deal with social work cases. >> police are trying to find out who shot a man in east baltimore. police say the man was shot in the chest near the intersection of north clinton street around 4:00 yesterday morning. there's no word on the suspect or possible motive. the man's condition is unknown. and a single car accident in carroll county has claimed the life of the driver. state police say 33-year-old timothy christopher long was headed west on dearpark road around 1:00 a.m. sunday when he lost control and hit a tree. he was pronounced dead at the

scene. investigators believe speed may have played a factor in the crash. >> judge sonya sotomayor will be on capitol hill to begin her highly anticipated confirmation hearings. the nominee will face some tough questions. 11 news reporter brian mooar has more. >> after weeks of courtesy calls on capitol hill judge sonya sotomayor is ready to fight for a seat on the supreme court. president obama called to give her a private pep talk from the oval office. and some democrats are predicting a slam dunk confirmation. >> i think there's a very good chance she's going to get as many or if not more votes than judge roberts got, which was 78. she has wowed people. >> saying i'm not going to be playing with hispanic teams, democratic team or republican team, flying rt constitution -- playing for the constitution team. i don't know what more you could ask from a judge. >> but some comment.

>> i think it's a fair area to question her about. certainly the rule of law depends on the same rules apply to each one of us, no matter our color, sex or ethnicity. >> critics also point to other ruling in a discrimination case where white firefighters were denied promotions because no african-american candidates were qualified. last month the supreme court overturned her ruling but supporters say she was following the law, not making it. today judge sonya sotomayor has the chance to defend herself. today has been reserved for opening statements. the actual questions are scheduled to begin tomorrow. the hearings are expected to last most of the week. brian mooar, nbc news, washington. >> a new airline for your furry four-legged friends is coming to maryland. starting tuesday pet airways will offer flights out of b.w.i. marshall for dogs and cats. it will also service airports in new york, l.a., chicago and

>> welcome back. it is 72 degrees. about 20 minutes away from the official sunrise time. it's still dark out there. some clouds around as well. however, we're going to be seeing a little bit more sun later this afternoon. we'll call it variably to partly cloudy today. an isolated thunderstorm is in the forecast. that would really be only applying to the extreme southern areas or the delmarva where a front has stalled out. 84, 87 our forecast high which is where we should be for july 13. your seven-day forecast coming up in a little bit. >> we'll see you in a bit. "covering the nation," police have made more arrests in the murders of a high-profile florida couple. they were killed in their pensacola home thursday as eight of their children slept. the couple is known for their large family. they have 16 children, 12 adopted. and most of those are special needs children.

56-year-old leonard was arrested yesterday, charged with evidence tampering two other suspects are also being held on open murder charges. >> angry demonstrators rallied outside a texas restaurant in protest of the treatmen treatmeo gay men. two weeks ago security guards asked five gay men to leave the restaurant after two of the men were spotted kissing each other. the men refused to leave until a police officer arrived on the scene and told the patrons it was illegal for them to kiss in public. one of the gay men filed a complaint against the el paso police department. >> 5:11. 62 degrees on tv hill. coming up, the economy causes some retireees to make some very tough choices. >> plus the pain at the pump is finally easing. price you can expect to pay the next time you fill up. >> and aside from some artscape closure, we're doing fairly well.

now, on-time service. with the m.t.a. transit team, i'm kurt kronke. now back to sandra shaw. >> and a very good morning. starting another week of july in the below normal humidity levels yet again. it's going to be warm. yesterday we topped out at 90 before the front got through here. today going to be in the mid to upper 80's again. as far as the cloud cover goes, there's clouds over the state of maryland. all the intense showers and storms are to our south. some very strong storms percolating. for the most part we're dealing with another dry day today. slightest chance of an isolated thunderstorm on the delmarva peninsula. temperaturewise, 62 to 67 in york, pennsylvania. 64 at the airport. 68, salisbury. with the moderating influence of the atlantic ocean, a mild start in ocean city at 76 degrees right now. the dew point levels in the low

50's in baltimore. 51 degrees dew point reading is incredible for july. we're usually in the upper 60's to near 70 this time of the year so a nice air mass in play over us yet again thanks to high pressure that's going to be building in today. so 80 degrees or maybe upper 70's in the higher elevations in the mountains of western maryland. plenty of sun. it looks like around baltimore, a few more passing clouds. 86 our forecast high. 87 is normal for july 13. so at least around there. 83 on the beaches of ocean city with a light northeast wind at about five miles an hour. on the chesapeake bay, here's what it's looking like. water temperatures elevatedded, feeling like bath water in the upper 70's. 99 degrees, the record tied three times. the most recent being 1966. and on july 13, 1978, 55 degrees. the record low was set. we should be 66 overnight tonight. but, again, cooler than normal readings with the low dew point. anywhere from 58 to 64.

our temperature range as the winds shifting to the southwest overnight tonight. here's what's happening. front moved through yesterday. it stalled out over the delmarva and southern virginia. tomorrow, the south of the carolinas. that will allow the high pressure to our west to extend its reach and build in over the mid-atlantic. that will stabilize things. wednesday, things get a little bit different. maybe an increase in the humidity and temperature as the front re-emerges. 87 degrees on wednesday. quite soupy out there. very humid ahead of the passage of another weak front that will die out on thursday. so 88 to 90 on thursday. then friday it looks like 85. slight chances of pop-up afternoon thunderstorms. saturday and sunday we are again in the lower 80's with a slight chance of afternoon storms. >> in this morning's "consumer alert," gas prices are going down according to the lundberg survey. too much supply and too little demand has helped gas prices

drop more than 10 cents over the past two weeks. the biggest two-week decline since december. the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is now $2.56. a gallon of regular gas last year peaked at an all-time high of $4.11. retireee who's have seen their nest egg shrink are having to decide if they'll be able to leave anything to their children. some are considering to insure their retirement income. they convert lump sums into an ongoing revenue stream that guarantees income. but the catch is that when the person dies, they leave nothing to their survivors which can make the decision tough. >> an iconic baseball team is facing bankruptcy this morning. michelle steele joins with us that story and the rest of the business news in the "bloomberg business report." happy monday to you, michelle. >> happy monday to you, too. first story hits close to home for me because i am from chicago

and we are hearing reports specifically from bloomberg news, the chicago cubs may become the first major league baseball team in 39 years to file for bankruptcy. this according to bloomberg which says cubs owner, tribune, is seeking chapter 11 in december, now considering a separate filing for the cubs, looking to sell the franchise after months of negotiations. people familiar with the matter say a brief cubs bankruptcy would be a legal tack i can to clear the team from any future liability in the tribune bankruptcy so, of course, the cubs very successful, making a lot of money, but they want to make sure that that asset is free and clear of liabilities as it moves to a new owner. meantime, bankruptcy also looming in the skies. tougher borrowing conditions have u.s. airlines facing the production pect of chapter 11 protection. american airlines, delta, united, continental and u.s. airehs with are expected to report losses. the carriers don't improve their market yanltd, we may be seeing

>> the crew of the space shuttle endeavor is still waiting on its mission. >> the launches with scrubbed. kristen dahlgren has the latest from the kennedy space center. >> after a month of delays, endeavor's crew hoped this was their day to fly. but after getting strapped in and waiting, in the end it was the weather that stopped the shuttle again. >> this time we are no go due to weather violation. >> this is the second time storms have forced the scrup scrub. on friday, lightning hit near the launch pad 11 times. nasa delayed saturday's launch to inspect the shuttle. in the end they found nothing wrong. there was also nothing wrong this time with the hydrogen line that was fixed after it leaked during two scrubbed launch attempts in june. but with no technical issues the problem was thunderstorms. >> advise when you're ready.
