wows out in the crowd because they've just listened to a great concert from daughtry. and there's chris daughtry right there saying hi to some of his fans. the group out with their second album "leave this town" today. out on the plaza, as well, staying in this town, i'm matt lauer along with al roker and natalie morales. and obviously they are doing very well musically. of course, the big music story of the last several weeks has been the death of michael jackson, and now three weeks after his death we're still trying to figure out how his family is dealing with all of the decisions that have to be made and things about his children. we're going to have more of that in just a little while. >> and then a little bit later on, on a slightly lighter note, is your dishwasher not doing what it's supposed to do, like washing dishes? or maybe the washing machine is on the fritz? maybe you're going to figure out what do you do? do you buy a new one? do you get it mixed? you might be interested to find out. >> i'll call al roker. >> that's right. >> to be your dishwasher? >> oh, yeah. >> i'm the maytag repairman. >> he'll come over and help us

vote before the august recess. florida police say killers who attacked a couple in their house while eight of their children were inside operate as two coordinated teams. a fourth suspect was charged last night, and more are now being sought. funerals are being planned for friday. the military says two u.s. marines were killed in a hostile incident on monday in southern afghanistan, where a major operation is now under way against the taliban. tough questions today for supreme court nominee sonia sotomayor during day two of her senate confirmation hearings. republican critics are grilling her directly for the first time. they're hoping to portray sotomayor as biased, without offending women and hispanics. and a squirrel in south carolina didn't get its hand stuck in a cookie jar. but look at this. it got its head stuck in a yogurt container. can you say that? it got some help a little bit later on, some human beings to get it out of that sticky situation. don't mean to laugh but it does

when michael jackson died his finances were in disarray. details about how much money he had, and how much he owed, are still murky. in his will, jackson names two men as executors. a lawyer and a friend. now, michael's mother, katherine jackson, is fighting for administrative power, too. in new court papers filed monday, the judge shut katherine out, and sided with the men jackson named. they now have the power to obtain all documents and records relating to michael jackson, his entities, the estate, and its assets. >> katherine jackson is asking for a bigger role in the estate. she wants them to consult with her before they make any major decisions. >> reporter: as for the millions in the estate, sources familiar with the case tell nbc news it will be split like this. 40% to katherine jackson. 40% to michael's kids. and 20% to children's charities. >> unfortunately, the way this is going to play out is that the creditors and uncle sam are going to get paid before the

beneficiaries. that's just the way it works. >> reporter: there are developments in the criminal investigation, as well. nbc news has learned partial autopsy results are in. and the full toxicology report could come in as early as this week. nothing officially released yet. and we're learning more about jackson's history with prescription drugs. tom mesereau was jackson's attorney during the 2005 molestation case. >> on verdict day he looked terrible. but he confided in me quite often that he was having trouble sleeping, that he was depressed, that he was worried about his children, and that was understandable. i had heard rumors for years that he was using lots of prescription medication. i never actually watched him use it, and i never saw anyone give it to him. but i was told from various quarters that he was using it, and i hoped it was not to excess, although some people around him thought it was. >> reporter: with jackson's inner circle now under the microscope, mesereau says it was a problem even then. >> i wasn't sure how interested they were in his welfare, and i did voice my disapproval from

time to time. >> reporter: in a paid interview with a british tabloid, la toya jackson said her brother was murdered by his greedy entourage. caroline graham interviewed la toya for four hours. >> when la toya used the word murder, i said to her do you really mean murder or do you mean manslaughter? and she said no, i feel that it was murder. that somebody gave him something, and that michael was worth more to some people dead than he was alive. >> reporter: monday marked what would have been michael jackson's opening night in london, kicking off his comeback tour. and so outside the o-2 arena, hundreds of fans came anyway with photos, with flags, with anything michael. >> i think people just want closure. no matter what really happened to michael jackson. >> reporter: that's exactly what homicide detectives want to know. so now, all eyes are on the l.a. county coroner's office, waiting for the cause of death, and the manner of death. the entire criminal case, natalie, could rest on those results. >> all right, jeff rossen

reporting again in los angeles. thank you, jeff. ebony magazine has been following the jackson family foul for more than four decades and will release a special tribute issue called "michael in his own words" and harriette cole is the magazine's director. >> thank you. >> let me ask you about this report as jeff told us about that, that the estate now being divided 40% between his mother, 40% between his children, 20% to other children's charities. seems like the siblings are not in this. >> sure. >> getting a cut of this. joe jackson, as well, not getting a cut of the estate. does that surprise you at all? >> it doesn't. i mean if you think about looking at other people, not celebrities, just regular folks. usually you give some to your mother and if you have kids you give the rest to the kids. what is probably unusual is how much he's giving to charity, 20% to charity. but as we've seen, he gave more than $300 million during his life to charity. so that's a big part of it. his siblings are adults. i haven't gotten a sense from talking to people close to him

that they're bickering about that. that more, you know -- >> the mother's going to be taking care of the children anyway. >> sure. >> la toya jackson has voiced her belief, as you heard in that report, that michael jackson was murdered. do the other family members, to your knowledge, believe there is something to that? >> well, i spoke to a close family friend, and i asked to check in and see what are they thinking? and i don't know if the word murder is what's being used but more that there is the sense, obviously he was 50 years old. they did not think that he was ill. why did he die? so something obviously went wrong. >> but there were people enabling him, perhaps? >> that wasn't said to me but i know that a lot of people are having that thought. more that something, something clearly went wrong. there's no reason that he should have passed away that day. no one thought that he was ill. so it's good there is an investigation. >> i know that ebony was really one of the last magazines to do a whole interview and photo

session with him back in 2007. how did he appear back then? >> he -- he was slim. you know, he's a dancer. he had a dancer's body. he seemed very healthy. if you look at pictures of him over the years, he's been very consistent. he was very gracious. very strong. very clear. and just, just sweet. there was a sweetness about him that we saw during the time we spent with him. and as we've looked back in working on this book, "michael in his own words" we looked at his words from 19 r07 to 2007, and that sweetness and focus about who he is as a creative being, is just pretty amazing. >> and there's a quote in here going back to october of 1981 in your magazine where he said, i want to continue to grow, to me the biggest sin of all sins is to be given a gift, a talent, because it's actually a gift from god. to take that and not cultivate and make it grow, that's the biggest sin in the world. >> he certainly did make his talents grow. he was always looking to do the next great thing. and what we learned in talking

i took my second stroll down the aisle as father of the bride. this time handing over our youngest daughter carrie to gregory trotter, a fine man from a good family. with two father of the bride experiences now under my severely tightened belt, i feel butty-bound to revisit certain key moments, using each as a teaching tool for all those future fathers of the bride searching for guidance on what to do, or not to do, on the day of the wedding. >> what father of the bride is out playing baseball getting sweaty? >> this one. >> it was 10:00 in the morning, five hours before the scheduled start of the ceremony, and everybody, including my wife, was surprisingly calm. >> how are you? >> i'm good. i'm doing pretty good. as long as my hair doesn't look like rod blagojevich, i'll be fine. >> hair. the concern for it, care of it, and fuss over it is something we men don't quite understand. a gender difference also

patient at rowhome leads to a confrontation with anne arundel county police and gunfire. police say that the officers were sent to the home of leah housley, who left without being discharged when they got to the home, her husband, a 51-year-old michael, confronted them. police say it turned into a much more heated exchange, causing them to use pepper spray, and eventually, one officer fired his weapon housley is charged with assault and resisting arrest. police have a shooting to solve all in southwest baltimore bridge suffered 8:00 last night -- shots were heard it o'clock last night. homicide detectives have been called in to investigate. >> today's forecast looks pretty good. we will be in the mid-to-upper- 80's again. winds at the nw at 5 to 10 miles per hour.
