his manhattan home. chris clackum has more. >> when walter cronkite it veered from his usual straight reporting on the evening news against the vietnam war, president johnson was watching and the white house -- in the white house. it was instances like that that helped justify his longtime moniker as the most trust this -- as the most trusted man in america. he was born on november 4 in st. joseph, missouri. he left the university of texas and began his own journalism career, one that led him to uncover the european bank banner front of world war two. he helped launch the cbs evening news, broadcast into 16 million

homes every night. one year later, walter cronkite informed the nation of the assassination of president kennedy. in 1969, his love of the space program overwhelmed him as he watched with the world the apollo 11 lunar landing. it was that on air in motion, his honesty, and impartiality that made his voice the voice of reason. walter cronkite held the chair until his retirement in 1981, after which he wrote two books and hosted several special news and educational programs. he spent the majority of his time enjoying his sailboat.

during his career, he won numerous industry awards, including several any pause and the peabody award twice. for more than five decades, he brought the news of the world into the homes of americans and a calmness only he could deliver. and with a trademark pending. >> and that is the way it is. >> you may be interested to know that in 2006, 11 news accepted the walter cronkite award. it is only awarded to one station in the nation every year and recognizes excellence in political journalism. there is continuing coverage of his death on our website. you can read more on his biography.

there is a link on our home page. firefighters are on the scene of a three alarm blaze in baltimore county. it ignited at a warehouse. neighbors say they heard several explosions as that fire spread. one person was injured but the facility is a complete loss. more budget cuts will be coming to baltimore city, and this time the slashes are across the board. it comes freight -- straight from annapolis. it is all because the state is down hundreds of millions of dollars, which affects the cash that flows into local jurisdictions. >> house sales are down, and unemployment is up across the state, this economy has really

we identified eight in charlotte -- on charlotte ave. from there, they attracted to the suspect. >> another turn in this story. steve mcnair apparently did not leave a well, setting up what could be a lengthy legal battle over his estate. his wife has been given temporary control over the estate. she has lifted herself and her two sons as heirs, but she cannot confirm if her two oldest sons or his. -- her to tell thiwo eldest son. 17-year-old lamont davis is facing several charges. on july 2, he opened fire.

five-year old raven wyatt was hit in the head and another teenager in the arm. friends of a popular liquor store owner want to know why their friend was shot and killed last night. it happened during a botched robbery attempt, but the suspects left empty-handed. david collins has the latest from fuller 10. >> friends, neighbors, and even strangers are placing flowers at the door of the liquor store. >> there was no reason to shoot him. no reason at all. none. i just hope that the baltimore county finds them and does what deserves to happen to them. >> police are putting together what happened with the help of a patent that was in the store at

the time. >> they were two black males. both had shorts on. >> one of his neighbors say he had six to eight cameras in the story. according to a source, it appears that he spotted the suspect is putting on nylon masks just outside of his door. the source says the liquor store had been robbed before. >> there is a videotape outside and detectives are taking a look to see what else they can find. >> the man they're called 911 found mr. joon kang slumped back in a chair. the man that does not want to be identified because the blur of two people running from the liquor store, still wearing their nylon masks. the side entrance is the criminals getaway route of choice.

mr. joon kang open the store 15 years ago. he received a commission from a sale of a lottery ticket years ago, but he mostly cared about his customers. friends say he was a very generous man. >> you could go in and needed pack of cigarettes. if you were a dollar short, he would spot you can tell you to get it to him next time. if you needed money for gas, he would tell you to pay him whenever you could. he loved everybody. >> over the past two years, there have been several robberies here at the shopping center. all of the bad guys fled using the side entrance to the parking lot. >> hurricane season is here, and

tonight, one of those children is fighting for her life after being left in a hot suv that was parked in this driveway. police say by the time she was discovered, she turned purple and was hot to the touch. jonathan l. is beside himself with grief -- jonathan bell is beside himself with grief. they divorced several months ago. she was given custody of the children. jonathan fought to win back customers, claiming his ex-wife was not a good mother. >> i tried to tell everybody that she needed -- that those kids it needed help. >> joanne and at least one of her children had spent the day at a tanning salon and mcdonald's. when they arrived at home,

wind tunnel at the university of maryland to see what it would be like to be in a category 3 hurricane. as you can see, it is no walk in the park. >> hurricane season actually started back in june and goes through november. we are here to show you what a category 3 hurricane might be like. what they are pretty rare in the baltimore area, they can still happen. we have always been fascinated by hurricanes and now we get to experience the winds up close and personal. this was built back in the 1940's, used to test all kinds of aerodynamics, and yes, if things can sustain hurricane force winds. this propeller is pretty big. it is powered electrically.

the latest round of showers is weakening as it approaches from the west. some of wet weather moving through frederick county. a little bit of shower activity. perhaps even some beneficial rains coming down from these localized showers. this is the last line in a series of storms that have rolled through our area. once that one is gone, we are home free headed into the weekend. at bwi marshall, only a couple hundredths of an inch. today, a degree below the average of 88 degrees. you can see the clouds associated with the storm is moving through. you will see that clearing trend

working through baltimore tomorrow morning. slightly cooler air comes in. 79 at the beach and ocean city, but only 59 in the mountains. the sun rises at 5:55. partly cloudy sky in most areas to start the weekend off. there is some unusually cool air behind the front. that will come sliding through the mid atlantic, keeping temperatures below normal for the next seven days. the heat that we had yesterday does not look like it will be repeating itself for the next few days. if you are headed for ocean city, expect more clouds. by monday, showers coming out of the carolinas. 82 to 87 degrees tomorrow. less humid tomorrow, it is going to feel more comfortable with a
