nice. >> we've been blessed. >> we got a little bit of a tease last week when we hit that 94. but things were back into the low 80's. and yesterday another record low. that's four record lows so far this year. that's just in dicktive of how tool we've been. specially this july. so, again, low 80's your temperature range. but there are showers and storms that are brewing right along the stationary front that's positioned offshore. so the bulk of the activity is offshore. nothing in baltimore now. later this afternoon we have the slightest chance of seeing a shower. 80 to 84 temperature range for the most part. partly sunny day. as we head into tonight, better chance of ran done showers, 60 to 65. probably tomorrow the best shot of seeing showers and storms all week long. 78 to 84. but with that said, we actually have a chance of rain each and every day for the next seven days. so that might not sound too good. but actually it's not an all-out washout. right now let's check out traffic. >> as long as we're not getting it all the time.

for now we're look at a nice ride even though there may be rain falling around the area. yes, we are up to speed according to our speed sensors. so not a whole lot to complain about. we had an early morning accident. that's gone. an easy ride around the area. five minutes on southbound 95 from the 895 split to ft. mchenry. and that new traffic pattern. you are exiting to the right instead of to the left as you take southbound 95 to get to 895. just keep that in mind this morning on the northeast side there. as far as your other drive times, 11 minutes on both the north and west side outer loop. traffic on 95 south of 100, north and southbound running smoothly. and the harrisburg expressway just north of the beltway, problem-free there. that's latest on traffic pulse 11. back to you both. >> thank you. our big story this morning, a carbon monoxide leak at a northeast baltimore apartment complex has residents concerned. >> nine people were sent to the hospital. neighbors say the community is no stranger to scares like this. 11 news reporter jennifer

franciotti live in the dutch village community with the latest. what can you tell us this morning? >> we know that a carbon monoxide detector didn't help the people who lived there. first, of the nine people taken to area hospitals yesterday, seven were children. carbon monoxide poison from a faulty water heater is what fire officials say sent nine residents of a town house in dutch village to the hospital two adult women and seven children, one as young as 18 months, were sickened by the toxic gas sunday afternoon in the city's northeast side. >> scary. scary. scary. makes me want to move. seriously. >> morton says high levels of the gas were also detected in her house but not as high as her neighbor's. crews replaced the water heater in morton's home as a precaution. but she says this isn't first time something like this has happened. three people from dutch village

tore taken to the hospital last month and more from the village in essex, owned by the same company. >> do something about it. i really do. because of what it's going to take. for somebody to die before they do something about it? >> according to baltimore city fire officials there was a carbon monoxide detector inside the house but it wasn't working and therefore never alerted the people inside when the levels reached dangerous levels. reporting live, jennifer franciotti, wbal-tv 11 news. >> friends and customers gathered to remember 57-year-old liquor store owner joon am kang over the weekend. he was shot and killed in an attempted robbery inside his store. according to police nothing was stolen. but friends of mr. kang tell a different story. >> i've read all the articles i could find. and every article said that they weren't sure if anything was

stolen but those articles are wrong. what they stole was something from all of us here. they stole something from the community. they stole something from his employees, his friends, and his family. >> mr. kang opened the store 15 years ago. customers remember him as a generous man who was willing to give anyone a break. >> speed cameras are expected to be up and running in baltimore city and other places by october. they're also in montgomery county zapping photos of driver who's break the law. some people aren't worried about getting caught. i-team reporter david collins explains why. >> you may not feel this way but some residents are begging for speed cameras while others have found a way around them. pleading with harford county to install a speed camera near his home exclaims few motorists owe bait 25 mile-an-hour -- obey the 25 mile-an-hour speed limit. >> the police department puts the trailer down here on a

regular basis. i've seen speeds as high as 60 miles an hour. >> you might wonder how he and the police feel about this. >> alert. >> it's a warning system. designed to alert drivers when approaching a red light or speed camera. this salesman installed it in his car. he says he's fighting technology with technology and avoiding costly tickets. is that warning system legal? does it work? you may be surprised at the answer when we ask law enforcement about it. >> the u.s. military faces some potential complications in afghanistan this morning. the taliban has released a video of an american hostage captured three weeks ago near the pakistan border. despite an extensive search his where abouts are still unknown. 11 news washington bureau reporter tara merginer has more. >> this is the first american soldier captured in this conflict. we now know who he is.

>> scared i won't be able to go home. it is very unnerving to be a prisoner. >> video of this american captured soldier was released. u.s. military officials have now identified him as 23-year-old private first class bowe bergdahl who vanished in afghanistan june 30. the 28-minute clip includes bergdahl eating and talking about his family. >> my girlfriend who i was hoping to marry. i have my grandma and grandpa. >> in his hometown in idaho friends and family carried yellow ribbons. >> just felt as a community we needed to come together. >> and pray for his safe return. >> know that the american people believe in you, support you, and are 100% behind you. >> u.s. forces have been scouring eastern afghanistan for clues about bergdahl's

whereabouts. this is the first time militants have tried to take advantage of his capture. a pentagon spokesperson said "i'm glad to see he appears unharmed, but this is a taliban propaganda video. they are exploiting the soldier in violation of international law." even if the military can figure out where bergdahl is, they still face the dilemma of whether a rescue attempt would put him in greater danger. in washington, wbal-tv 11 news. >> the most trusted man in america, legendary journalist walter cronkite passed away. he anchored "cbs evening news" from 1962 to 1981 covering stories that ranged from president kennedy's assassination to america's race to reach the moon. according it to his chief of staff, cronkite died from cerebral vascular disease, surrounded by his family in his manhattan home. he was 92 years old. that brings to us our "watercooler question of the day" what is your favorite memory of the legendary journalist, walter cronkite?

>> good morning. sarah caldwell checking on your morning commute. it's a nice one as we check our speed sensors. all of them looking good on the top side. 95 toward the ft. mchenry. west side at 61 miles per hour as you view the speed sensors. we have been monitoring the situation on southbound 95 with that new traffic pattern at the 895 split. coming toward us is southbound traffic. right now you're going to be exiting to the right instead of to the left. something to be aware of. and the signed are up. so as long as you keep track of that, you're going to be ok. a little adapting to do. otherwise you're ok. no delays. we're look at a nice ride elsewhere as we view a live view of the west side at liberty road. the rest of the roadways leading up to the beltway equally smooth at this hour. we'll keep you posted on any problems that come in. that's the latest. now let's get the latest on the buses and the trains. for that go to kurt kronke of the m.t.a. >> we do have is a delay on the brunswick line. 890 running 10 to 15 minutes

late. other marc lines are operating on time. light rail and metro also on schedule. we have a few buses delays including the six, 10 and 35 buses, 10 minutes late. seven buses with a 25-minute delay. and on the 22 buses, diverses at university and 40th, also at st. paul of the and the 17 buses diverting at nursery. construction related there. with the m.t.a. transit team, i'm kurt kronke. now back to sandra shaw. >> we were blessed with another absolutely gorgeous weekend. yesterday we set a record low of 57 degrees. so a cooler-than-normal july. the jetstream is further to the south. there's a front right offshore this morning. we see some showers and storms percolating. nothing on land, at least over the state of maryland currently. but that could change later on. especially to the east on the eastern shore. ocean city, best chances of showers today. in the meantime, temperature range, 71 in baltimore. 57-degree reading in york. at the airport we're looking at 63 degrees. as far as the high goes today,

again, we should be 88 degrees for july 20. we're only going to see a high of about 82 in central maryland. partly sunny skies. slight chance of shower. the best chances of showers perhaps in ocean city later on. again, it's only at about 20% so it's not going to be any sort of really wet day today. we could use the rain. but so far we didn't get any over the weekend. got some last friday. yesterday's high only 81 degrees. so the constant would be the low 80's, at least for first half of this week. on the day today, winds out of the northeast. waves only a foot or less. water temperatures not too far off the air temperatures, in the upper 70's. 102. we have the potential to reach searing temperatures in july. 1930, july 20, that was set. and in 1890, a 58-degree record low was set. here's what it looks like as we head into tonight. 60 to 65. 66 is where we should be overnight. still a little cooler than normal. cloudy with a 40% chance of

showers around. high pressure today will keep most of the rain away from us. this high will drift offshore tomorrow. and an upper level low will develop over the great lakes. that in contrast to a very strong high out west. so it's going to be with us all week long with that said, they're going to be little disturbance that will rotate through all week long. we have a chance of showers for the next seven days. looks like an incredibly wet week. again, minimal chances with the exception of tomorrow, probably the best shot of seeing showers and storms. then we'll keep it at about 20% to 30% through sunday. and for the most part we remain in the low 80's first half of the week. maybe mid 80's by next weekend. >> it seems everyone and severing becoming more eco friendly these days. some new green technology can be a bit of a hassle to keep up with. a san diego company is trying to advance the world of eco-friendly vehicles. a mere concept of solar parking. >> integrating solar into our lives. >> great stuff.

>> robert noble is the c.e.o. of envision solar which just launched clean charge a hybrid electric carrie charging station. >> -- car recharging station. >> where are you going to plug them in? >> clean charge is still in the development stage. noble says the future is here. these are on the top of a parking structure, providing shade to the cars below and soaking up the sun's rays. and noble says in the future each one of these trees will have an outlet, maybe two, so that solar electric cars can plug right in. >> the sun hits the solar panel. and then electricity is produced. and then it trickles into the grid. >> it would take several hours to fully charge an electric car now. but noble says fast charge systems are on the way. >> it may be two, three years when we start seeing, you know, plenty of opportunity to charge in our electric vehicles. >> and start using solar fo sol.
