it was early saturday morning around 6:31 a woman was attacked and near the rate at chartres street downtown -- and nearly raped at chartres street downtown. >> i thought it was pretty safe, but i guess not. >> police say she was walking to work when men grabbed her from behind. she put up a fight, and a passerby frightened of the assailants. she escaped with only cuts and bruises. >> it felt like a populated, clean streets, and i would not expect this would be a dangerous part of the city. >> this is not something that usually happens in this part. we do believe this was a crime of opportunity. we think she was walking by herself, and they try to capitalize on that. >> police say you should always be alert when walking alone and walk with someone else if possible, and folly your gut instinct.

-- follow your gut instinct. >> i have my husband walked with me or go with a friend or just let people know where i am going to be. >> i definitely do not go out by myself. i am more aware of my surroundings and who is following me and looking around me and that kind of thing. >> that was kim reporting. a teacher and a field hockey coach was indicted on federal child pornography charges. he was arrested by baltimore county police after chatting with the person he thought was a 13-year-old girl, but that person was actually retired los angeles police officer. if convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison. baltimore city police are searching for one of three suspect they say tried to rob an off-duty officer. it happened moments after the officer finished his shift. he was approached at a bus stop.

authorities say when one suspect showed a gun, the officer shot him. that person was taken to a hospital. a second suspect was arrested. the third person is still on the loose. baltimore county police are searching for the person who burglarized five churches in a week's time. three of those centers are in the same town. authorities say the burglaries' are connected. they believe the suspects wanted quick cash. one place it was st. stephen's episcopal church on chapel road. father james johnson said thieves got away with money, one, and a lunch box. he said the burglary was unnecessary. >> our help does go out to those who felt desperate enough to do this, and we always assist in any way we can. >> police have taken extra measures to secure the church. if you have any information,

call baltimore county. tonight's state police have arrested a husband and wife in connection with molten: -- with multiple deaths. jerome herron and jerome tina herron are accused of -- and his wife tina herron are accused of stealing. they face a number of charges, including burglary, theft, and malicious destruction of property. authorities say they are in the process of reuniting the stolen property with its rightful owners. deadly animal abuse allegations have the attention of the new anti-animal cruelty task force. two cats were found dead at the bottom of an outdoor solar, and some residents believe local kids are responsible. >> neighborhood cats can only find food end of hat on the head at jackpots house. the residents said goodbye to a

in pennsylvania but not many stores in maryland. tonight michael jackson's personal doctor is the target of a manslaughter investigation into the singer's death. a search warrant filed in a houston court today allows authorities to seek evidence to determine if dr. conrad murray committed manslaughter. murray was a doctor with michael jackson on the day he died. tonight, nearly four dozen people are behind bars following a wide reaching corruption probe in new jersey. federal agents arrested 44 people, including three mayors, two state lawmakers, and five rabbis. authorities say $650,000 in cash was taken from several top officials in new jersey. >> the complaints show for these

forecast with john collins. >> radar has been busy. let's get right to it. there are moderate showers falling over baltimore city. some scattered thunderstorm activity over howard county with heavier rains in carroll county. the heaviest storms sell is just south of westminster right now, and this train reaches south and north to pennsylvania. earlier today, a pennsylvania got heavy rain, and they have a pretty strong thunderstorms and also in the cambridge area, the eastern shore, some predicted rains falling now. this whole line is moving to the east, so we're going to have an hour's worth of rain, and the previous lines of storms kind of failed before they got into town. it looks like this is going to make it and give us a decent rain. let's take a look at rainfall but fell earlier in the day today. we got generous amounts.

some of you got very little, and some of you got pretty good rainfall in town and in the hartford county. an inch to an inch and a half or so. this does not include the stuff falling this evening, and out west in montgomery and frederick county, also an area that got an inch to an inch and a half of rain. a couple of small places got as much as two and a half inches of rain, but other areas got maybe a 10th of an inch or a quarter of an inch of rain. with this that coming in, it will make up for some of that. 72 at easton. westminster is 72. at the airport and downtown is 75 degrees right now. here is the next line of storms coming in. it is a complex storm system trying to move through, and it is moving slowly, so we will still be dealing with it tomorrow. we will spend the day moving across the peninsula, so it will take awhile to get this

disturbance out of the way. therefore, the rain chances stick around for a while. tonight, scattered thunderstorms and mostly cloudy. the winds will be light and variable. again, scattered thunderstorms in the future, although it tapers off by the end of today. thunderstorms and a friday forecast. saturday and sunday looked dry with highs in the upper 80's. futurecast shows a lingering chance of rain in friday afternoon, and it finally dries out. a hot, humid day is expected on saturday, and saturday's forecast is calling for temperatures near 90 degrees or so, and no rain in the saturday forecast. 89 on sunday. thundershowers on the forecast. it will not be raining all the time. most of the time it will just be partly cloudy, but the rain chances there. >> more than 70,000 fans converge on baltimore to watch two of soccer's biggest teams square off. not all -- now how there will be
