[captioning made possible by constellation energy group] captioned by the national captioning institute --www.ncicap.org-- >> live, local, latebreaking. this is wbal-tv 11 news at noon in hd. >> a commercial helicopter crashes on i-70 late thursday night, killing all four people on board. good afternoon. i am mindy basara. her melissa carlson during this with more. >> a press conference just wrapped up a couple of minutes ago. what we do know at this hour is about the victims. all four are from maryland. a 48-year-old from new market, the 24-year-old from columbia, a 43-year-old from new market, and a 39-year-old from westminster. at this point in time, all three

of these people that passed away were employees of the advanced helicopter conference out of frederick. one of the individuals was a passenger, a friend of those three. we were told information about the pilot, who was flying about four hours trying to raise money for a local charity he stopped for two hours at 8:00 and was waiting for weather. he picked up the flight from frederick and was headed to hagerstown. he is up on all of its syndications. he has 600-plus flight time. there is no flight plan issued for this trip. the tower here at the papers out airport was closed for the evening. we do not know what kind of role that played in this crash. officials are looking at all of the issues. they say that they are looking at a number of factors into the cause, and are pre interviewing witnesses that were driving along i-70 last night when that

happened. the witnesses are telling ntsb and police that they saw all this happen before their eyes. >> based on a witness reports given to the maryland state police, the helicopter was flying east over interstate 70, impacted power lines that i understand were about 70 feet above the ground, before hitting the ground. witnesses reported that the aircraft was flying very low, that they saw sparks, before the aircraft hit the ground, and then there was a post-crash fire that substantially damaged the aircraft, consumed the cockpit. >> the big question is what caused the accident in the first place. ntsb said it would start their investigation. we did ask about a flight meter, and reported that this helicopter does not have one. >> fios guy! where ya headed?

in baltimore, topping out at about 84 or 85 today a mix of clouds and sunshine. white, patchy fog this morning. the sunshine is a variable out there. slight chance of pop thunderstorms. as far as the day forecast, only five to 10 knots. water temperatures in the 70's. even though it is seen it out there -- even though it is humid out there, we are in the green category for maryland and eastern shore. 0.34 -- > zero. -- 0.43 inches of rainfall. less than half an inch of rain of accumulation, making up the deficit in july. we will be in a similar range today. nowhere near the 88. we will surge well above that starting tomorrow.
