the two families met with the judge and the archdiocese attorneys in a closed-doors hearing that lasted about 45 minutes. the judge denied the restraining order as a matter of law saying he understood the claim but that the law was not on the plaintiffs' side. >> it was as a matter of law whether this relief was relief that we were seeking could be provided to us. >> the group of about 30 supporters was left stunned in front of baltimore circuit court. lawyers say there still may be more options even though they're running out. >> we're going to pursue our legal options over the course of the next few days. >> attorneys for the archdiocese left out a back door to the court building, so we were not able to get any comment from them. however, in the past, the spokesperson has said a number of times keeping the school open just simply is not an option for this case. at this point, we'll have to

wait and see if the plaintiffs make another move. live in towson, i'm lowell melser, wbal-tv 11 news. >> maryland health officials announced today that a fourth person in the state has died from the h1n1 swine flu virus. unlike the first three cases that were fatal, this eastern shore resident didn't have any apparent illnesses or risk factors. officials have not released any more details and department secretary says the death of someone without apparent underlying medical conditions is reminder of how serious this flu can be even for healthy adults. >> a line of storms moving across southern pennsylvania, so there is a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for another 12 minutes or so for alana-caser, york, franklin and adams counties.

from capitol hill, i'm steve handelsman, wbal-tv 11 news. >> cancer project, a nonprofit vegan advocacy group, wants a health warning put on hot dog peages. they filed a lawsuit against major hot dog manufacturers claiming processed meats have been linked to cancer and consumers should be warned about it. studies show the preservatives used for foods like hot dogs are high in nigh trites, which can be converted into cancer-causing chemicals during digestion but there is not a clear consensus on this. meat industry representatives say the lawsuit is unfounded. and you may want to try water aerobics. anyone from teenagers to seniors can benefit from these exercises. in the water, you only need to support 10% of your body weight and there is less stress on

the delaware beaches and down along the potomac river on the virginia side they're getting isolated storms, too. kind of an active evening this evening. but except for that line just north of us in southern pennsylvania, where york is getting some thunderstorms now, it's kind of isolated, at least in maryland. let's look at what's going on temperature-wise. it's a warm, humid day today. 81 degrees at stephensville. annapolis checks in with 80 right now. at b.w.i.-marshall, it's 85. 86 downtown. college park, 88. gaithersburg, 82. 78 hagerstown. in hagerstown, there is some thundershower activity and heavier clouds there. the satellite imagery shows thunderstorms activity moving across southern pennsylvania. here is the oceangoing storm. a swirl of clouds offer the new england coast to the northeast

of cape cod. along the delaware beaches we have stuff going on, too. the weather system that was in the neighborhood yesterday is still here. but instead of being just west of us, it's just east of us now, just out over the water. the air is still soupy out there, so there is enough moisture to trigger storms. it is going to be very summer-like as we go into the end of the weekend and next week with a lot of heat, humidity and maybe a few isolated storms. tonight, scattered thunderstorms in the forecast especially in the early evening hours. 61 to 65 the overnight low range. tomorrow, a steamy day. 89 to 93. mostly sunny skies. in the afternoon, an isolated thundershower could crop up, but it's a very, very small chance. south southwest winds at seven to 126789 ocean city, tonight, thunderstorms, widely scattered. 65.

surprise appearance to say he talked to the arresting officer by phone today in an effort to deescalate an escalating situation. the latest on the story from 11 news reporter chris clackum. >> the surprise visit at the briefing by the president follows his remarks earlier this week that came bridge police sergeant james crowellly acted stupidly in the arrest of henry gates. >> i just had a conversation with sergeant jim crowley -- >> admitting he contributed to the uproar, the president said he could have calibrated his words differently. >> there was an overreaction in pulling professor gates out of his home. professor gates probably overreacted as well. >> at an earlier news conference, crowley didn't speak. but his supporters did, saying crowley went by the book in arresting gates last week.

>> after an intensive investigation, the came bridge police department also expressed its support for sergeant crowley clearing him of any wrongdoing. >> crowley told whdh thursday that gates was immediately confrontational when he and another officer responded to a call about two black males breaking into the house. >> i said i'm sergeant crowley from the cambridge police department investigating a break-in in progress. he responded, why, because i'm a black man in america? >> crowley's version is at odds with what gates told cnn. >> i demanded his name and badge number. he wouldn't say anything. he was very upset. he said are you not responding to me because you're a white police officer and i'm a black man? >> the charges against gates were dropped although he is said to be contemplating a lawsuit. while president obama says he's hoping for something else. >> my hope is that, as a

the trip. >> she canceled, thinking the tickets were covered by the travel insurance. she filed a claim with access america. but the company rejected it. they claim she didn't have the right kind of coverage. >> access america told me that, because my dad had renal disease before the tickets were purchased, that this was a preexisting condition and they weren't going to cover it. >> this is one of the number one reasons for travel policies being canceled or not honored on behalf of consumers. >> the better business bureau's angie bar net says many consumers are confused. >> i am so confused. i don't understand what i did wrong. >> she believed her policy included coverage if a family member became seriously ill or injured or was in a life-threatening situation. her circumstances seem to be just that. >> most policies exclude preexisting conditions. >> the b.b.b. says you have to know not only what the contract

includes but also what it doesn't. >> this particular policy, what you're looking at, they allude to a policy that includes preexisting conditions but that's extra coverage and you've got to read down the fine print. it's at the very bottom of the contract. you've got to be so diligent in absorbing that information. >> the company told her she could have purchased extra coverage for preexisting conditions. she said she read all the insurance information and found nothing requiring her to buy additional insurance. >> it's unconscionable, i think, that people should purchase this insurance and then be told they're not covered. >> a spokesman for access america says he believes the policy is straightforward. he says she purchased a.a. trip protector, which does not provide for an existing medical condition. her father had been ill for some sometime and his symptoms and treatment fell within the

identify the pilot. >> the search for a baltimore area team at a south carolina beach is now a recovery mission. volunteers lined the shore looking for 13-year-old lonnie hill. on thursday, the boy went swimming with friends in the ocean, went underwater and never returned to the surface. the boy and his team were in south carolina to play in a big kahuna tournament in myrtle beach. >> a houston search warrant confirms that michael jackson's personal doctor, conrad murray, is the tarlt of a criminal investigation into the singer's death. jackson mother says she needs money to take care of his children. and the august tribute concert is now canceled. >> the office and storage unit of michael jackson's personal physician was searched wednesday in houston. court documents are the first public confirmation the doctor is a crime suspect. a search warrant says, quote,

investigators were looking for evidence of the offense of manslaughter that tends to show that dr. conrad murray committed the said criminal offense. during the search, police confiscated roll owe decks cards, emails, computers, a suspension notice from a houston hospital and vials of two drugs. one is used for weight loss. the other drug seized was sometimes used as a muscle relaxant and sleep aid. >> they are looking at dr. murray, they are seriously investigating him for manslaughter, and they're looking for any piece of evidence that will help them put a case together against him. >> through his attorney, the doctor has denied wrongdoing. autopsy results expected next week could influence possible charges. murray, a cardiologist, was hired by jackson at a monthly salary of $150,000. he was at jackson's los angeles home and found the singer not breathing. he administered c.p.r.

officials are still finding dead dogs inside a man's michigan home. today animal rescue crews found 150 dogs in a dearborn, michigan, home. 75 were dead and packed in old freezers and closets. rescue and cleanup efforts began wednesday after residents in the neighborhood complained about an odor coming from the house. >> as we go forward, our building and safety and engineering will make a determination on the house and initially they've said the house will in all likelihood have to be destroyed because the dirt is so deeply penetrated in the house that cleaning it is out of the question. >> the live animals captured are being cared for. the 56-year-old man who owns the dogs and lives in the house was taken to an area hospital for a psychological examination. police in dearborn say the owner could face several charges of animal cruelty. >> a jury has convicted an arkansas evaluate of taking underage girls across state lines for sex. they found 74-year-old tony

>> yesterday we had scattered thunderstorms in the area. today the same weather system is more or less with us, so we have more storms in the area. most of it is up in pennsylvania. but a little is reaching down into northern baltimore and eastern carroll county at this time. and there could be a little hail associated with this and gusty winds. the stronger storms are near york and east of york moving across i-83 and on eastward. so in addition to carroll and baltimore county, it look like harford county and eventually cecil county will be involved as well. parts of harford county, southwest harford county, a isolated storm cell has cropped up. also a little cell just to the west of ocean city that is barely visible on the radar but nonetheless is there. this cluster of storms scooting just along the maryland-peril

line at this stage. let's look outside and see what is happening. easton checks in with 84 degrees. annapolis, 80. downtown it's 86. everyone in the 80's. at westminster, a little cooler because of the heavier clouds and rainfall up there at 81. 79 hagerstown. notice these yellow shadings further north in pennsylvania. that's the cooler air caused by those storms. more isolated activity just around the ocean city area and it's moving toward the baltimore metropolitan area. it's just off into baltimore county, now in carroll county, moving our way. yesterday it was just to our west. now it's just to our east, but still enough to stir up the atmosphere. once that gets a little further away, things should calm down tomorrow. we'll still be on the hot and humid side. then the next weather system in minnesota will approach into

sunday. for today, we are in the slight risk category for severe weather through the evening hours this evening. there was a watch or a warning earlier this evening in southern pennsylvania. that has since expired. the biggest threat would be for hail with these storms. they'll be scattered this evening. generally partly cloudy the rest of the night. up around 90 or a little better than that during the day tomorrow with mostly sunny skies. rain chances will be minimal tomorrow. it will be humid. maybe an isolated thundershower could crop up somewhere in the afternoon but not enough to cause you to alter your plans. small craft advisories on the bay tomorrow. wind could gust to 20 with a one- to two-foot chop. this activity leaves the area and we'll be dry most of saturday. sunday the next front comes in with rain chances going up once again. the forecast calls for a hot and humid day tomorrow. isolated rainshowers possible -- or thundershower.
