mar. lots of lightning strikes with this. the biggest threat is some nickel-sized hail but also some very gusty wind. queen and kenny -- queen anne's county is still under a severe thunderstorm warning until 11:30. we expect that to expire a little early as most of this is pushing its way into delaware and will continue to push its way off the coast. further to the west we still have a line of showers and thunderstorms in west virginia that will be heading our way. we'll talk more about those and more potential severe weather on the way for tomorrow. we will have all the details and the full forecast in just a bit. >> you can always follow the forecast by using our interactive radar. it allows you to track rain or storms down to your very street. just log on to wbaltv.com and click on whether. tonight a house fire at perry

hall is under investigation. firefighters got the call around 8:30 tonight. we are told the fire is in the basement of the home. we are told no one was hurt. a second fire is under investigation on bellaire road. flames broke out around 4:00 this afternoon in the rear of the building and then spread to several others. two of the building's collapse. no reports tonight of any injuries. a columbia family says one letter merge into their front yard sends a strong message that someone does not like an african-american family in their neighborhood. melissa cross and spoke to that family and joins us live with the latest. >> the family says the past few months, strange things have been happening in new york. a couple of days ago, they got a clear signal that this was more than just a prank. they say it was this past wednesday when they found -- they started on a walk in their

neighborhood. just steps away from their front door, a mark in the yard stopped them in their tracks. >> we went down the sidewalk and looked in the grass. my wife saw it, and before she could say anything, i said that is an 'n.' they believe it was burned into the grass was some sort of chemical. they have no idea how long it has been there. they say other things have been happening. >> people have thrown chicken bones and chicken boxes in the yard, beer bottles, they have let their dog use the bathroom. they have done direct things to trash our yard and let us know we are not welcome. >> neighbors tell us they never expected this in their neighborhood. >> i was shocked and devastated. i am as upset as they are. >> people say columbia is just a nice town, nothing could ever happen.

it is sad and unfortunate this has happened. >> ward says he was willing to pass up the other events as a prank, but this took it too far. he has all the police report and believes it is a hate crime. trina ward is concerned that this is only the beginning. >> this is scary. who's to say that if they come up in the yard, what is to stop them from coming up to the house or breaking windows? >> they have lived in the home for about three years. they say they are not the only african-american family in the neighborhood, but they seem to be the only ones being targeted. they are hoping that somebody saw something and they will call howard county police. >> the search for a missing girl in the sassafras river has turned into a recovery mission. the 11-year-old girl fell off a vote yesterday at ordinary point. crews say they have called off the search for the night.

skype team 11 flew over the search around 4:30 friday afternoon. they say she somehow ended up being hit by the same boat. the accident is under investigation. baltimore police are investigating a deadly shooting in greek town. he was shot on foster avenue. he was taken to bayview medical center where he was pronounced dead. police say they have not been able to identify the victim. there is no worries -- there is no word on a motive or a suspect. a homicide happen around 2:00 this morning that the parking lot of the clubhouse lounge. police say a woman was shot several times in the stomach while sitting in her vehicle. she was pronounced dead. a double shooting in mount vernon is also under investigation tonight. police say two people were shot, a man shot in the pie and a woman wounded in the leg.

both victims were taken to the hospital with non life- threatening injuries. henry louis gates says he is ready to move past his controversial addressed. he accepted the invitation to share a beer at the white house with president obama and sergeant james crowley, the officer accused of racial profiling. president obama, who said the police had acted stupidly before arresting him in his own home, tried to tamp down the appropriate now seems both sides hope this meeting elevates the incident into a teachable moment. >> what i do not want to see is beer drinking, back slapping, like nothing happened, and then we do not deal with the very real issue of race. >> after the diversion caused by the president's comments on the arrest, the president was back on message this weekend, talking of his health reform package and urging congress to get a plan

maryland's first lady joined in celebrating maryland's summer reading program. children join the first lady at the library this morning where she read several books and an effort to could -- to encourage kids to continue reading all summer long. last year, more than 150,000 children and teenagers participate in the summer reading club. >> now your insta-weather plus forecast. >> we had a gorgeous saturday afternoon, very summerlike outside with plenty of heat and humidity. like thunderstorms developed in the late afternoon through the early evening avenues. it is pushing out for the eastern shore. you can still see that one very strong cell which is out of the warning area. we do still have a severe thunderstorm warning for areas of talbot, queen and and also carol -- kerlikowske. that will be going until 11:30.

around baltimore we are starting to dry out just a little bit, but more storms are just off to the west. we will continue to see this pattern developed throughout the day tomorrow and even into monday. we can see the larger radar picture of the last few hours. you can see this line here starting to set up. this is associated with the cold front that will try to make its way through very slowly throughout the day tomorrow. that slowness will provide for a saudi sunday and start -- eight soggy sunday and start to the work week. at 8:00 p.m. as it tries to make its way to the middle part of that state, that is where we anticipate the front causing a lot of problems. it is lining up just along the i-95 corridor. even into early monday, there is again in the afternoon.

the trend for the next few days is starting off with a little bit of sunshine and then getting the heat and humidity, then the afternoon and evening thunderstorms. timber tears right now, 72 in baltimore, and 77 further down to the south. for the rest of tonight, scattered thunderstorms and partly cloudy. the bermuda high is in control, and that will be the pattern for the next few days, dealing with the heat and humidity. each day throughout the work week will not be a washout, but it will be all little soggier than what we have been accustomed to the last few days. winds will be out of the southwest, and stormy day for sunday. waves are 1-2 feet.
