the gathering was a party in memory -- memory of some of his associates. the mayor and others say it is time before the community to step forward and bring an end to the violence. >> i do not what you hear about the sledging. that is crap. s -- snithcingching. that is crap. these people need to come forward. >> they do not do their actions in a vacuum with cloaking devices. they do it in front of their girlfriends, their loved ones, and their friends. people know what is going on. >> there were several shootings connected to the violence at the cookout. >> and religious leaders are

stepping in to take action. >> they are turning to their own congregations for help. our reporter is live with more on the details. >> it turns out all of the shootings you mentioned, baltimore experienced an unprecedented amount of shootings in a short time frame which has members of the faith- based community involved in a street initiative to expand the program. in may, the archdiocese of baltimore started what they call this summer of peace calling on all denominations making this a summer of peace in the city. the could not shootings and others over the weekend at some spiritual leaders saying more needs to be done to end this culture of violence. >> it is rooted in the poverty that grips the city. it is rooted in the gang culture, a drug culture. the entire community must come together and say no to this

cultural violence. >> he believes the initiative and the summer of peace is helping. without it, there would be even more violence. coming up, of what is planned in august to help expand the program. reporting live, wbal tv 11 news. >> thank you. friends and family gathered to remember a woman who was gunned down while sitting in her car. she was shot 10 times in the chest saturday morning. police found the body inside a car. investigators have little to go on. family members say they do not know who would do such a thing. >> there is a lot of hurt. there is a lot of pain. we have two little ones who lost their mother. it is not right. it is not right. >> anyone with information about the murder should call baltimore city police. they are investigating a deadly accidents involving a street sweeper.

a car carrying three people burst into flames killing everyone inside when they had an accident with the street sweeper. the bodies were burned beyond recognition. >> president obama looks to put pressure on congress to act soon on health care reform. senate negotiations are inching toward a compromise. our reporter is in washington with the latest. >> president obama tried to be energized his health care push. he will look to the aarp as a reform ally. >> there is an urgency in health care reform. >> demanding action are the drugmaker's big lobby. they are in sync with the liberal group that has advertisements that slam critics

according to "the wall street journal" the commodity futures commission will say that someone played a role in driving up the oil last summer. oil futures have climbed since -- around 102% since the report. there will be the first of three hearings today to discuss the energy market. let's get to the equity markets, u.s. stocks climbing higher on better than expected new home sales. baltimore-based under armor -- the company is reporting its earnings before the opening bell. if you are a delta frequent flier, and you have to add up those models. they will have a new benefit program with a membership in the airport clubs. but you have to have a certain amount of points to have that status. stock index futures are looking
