constellation energy group] captioned by the national captioning institute --www.ncicap.org-- >> good evening everyone. i am robert daniels. emergency medical technicians jailed charged with a string and promoting child pornography. our reporter is live in baltimore county police headquarters. he has details for us. >> they are saying that most of the filming in this case was done at the couple's middle river home. this is a story that had most of us in the media and police speechless. they were emt's charged with doing unthinkable things to children ages 2 years old to 13 years old. police believe there may be more but victim's -- more victims. >> this is gross. it is indecent. there is no other term but they felt term to describe it.

>> in the story of a 34 year-old john nicklas and 26 year-old shannon honea the notion is all you can feel. it april started back on july 15. detectives were able to determine that child pornography was located inside their home here on the 9700 block -- in middle river. police seized computers and several cd's and dvd's. it was not until after police viewed the videos is when they determined that the suspects were part of the child pornography. >> they were part of the sexual acts and selling it. they were distributing it to other people. >> according to court documents the abuse involving children ages 2-13.

a vast amount of prescription bottles were found. one of the victims appeared to be unconscious in one of the videos. police are not sure how children were lured into it. this woman with family and children's services of central maryland was shocked by the story. she says more and more, the children are coming aboard to help put child abusers behind bars. >> i believe there is a lot more education out these days. children are telling quicker than they used to. >> police would not elaborate and on how they were able to track the suspects down. they say it was part of the investigation. >> nicklas is being held without bond. as far as honea, she is being held on $5 million bond. police are asking parents who may have had children near the couple or anyone who might have any information to call the baltimore county child sex crimes unit.

we are live tonight, wbal tv 11 news. >> a paramedic is under investigation tonight after a man shot by city police was declared dead even though he was still alive. the incident started at 4:30 saturday morning when baltimore police were on routine patrol. they worked at shon's food market. a suspect, 51 year-old man, was swinging a knife-like weapon. someone on the scene pronounced him dead. but police saw him move minutes later. they called the medics back. >> the patient assessment would involve a head-auto service. we would assess if there is airwave breathing and circulation. >> the paramedic will be placed on administrative duty. if this is a case of dereliction

duty, the individual could face suspension or demotion. baltimore city police mounted unit could be disbanded if it does not get a private funding. the budget ranges between 150,000-$250,000 was cut from the budget. city police commissioner says the officer unit is a priority and he vows to seek private funds including charitable donations. baltimore's horse patrol unit is the oldest continuous running unit in the united states. several more baltimore county residents are recovering from carbon monoxide poisoning after a scare this morning. our reporter spoke with some of the victims. the name of the management company -- >> and neighbors believe that the carbon monoxide detectors save 20 lives this morning. this man called 911 when the

alarm sounded. >> my alarm went off in my house. saying it was carbon monoxide -- i got the family out. the fire department came. >> his wife and four children were among 10 residence here rushed to the hospital with co poisoning. >> the readings begun our equipment was -- we got from our work equipment showed there were readings of carbon monoxide. >> she found nothing had been fixed when she came home. the property management refused to install a co monitor. >> we have no hot water, heat, or air that we can use. they have not put carbon monoxide monitors. we went to buy one. >> she tells us that she is fed up and she is finding herself a lawyer.

she cannot believe that they refuse to install monitors despite the recent scarce here. there is a chronic problem at this townhome complex. >> almost 20 people could have died last night because they will not put carbon monoxide monitors there. it does not make any sense when the apartments are already displaying that there is something in there. >> the complex is owned by a real-estate company. carbon monoxide detectors have been installed in 150 town home unit. speed cameras could soon be in a neighborhood near you. the council introduced a bill allowing people to install speed cameras near elementary, middle, and high schools. our reporter is live with more specifics for us. >> supporters say this legislation is a cost-

effective way for police to crack down on speeders. these boxes may soon be part of a landscape surrounding baltimore county public schools. it has speed cameras. lawmakers believe it would make school zones safer. >> it will provide a tool that will allow baltimore county to enforce speeding in school zones and in work zones without the expense of hiring more police officers. >> they are considering implementing the cameras used by a dozen schools this fall. you would get a ticket by mail if the camera catches you speeding. >> it will not trigger until you exceed 12 miles over the speed limit. >> drivers we spoke to were all for the idea. >> i think it is a good idea because of the kids. >> do you ever noticed people speeding through school zones? >> all of the time. >> a lot of kids run across the

street when they get out of school. >> it helps me in my experiences. you notice them when you are driving. >> i think it is a good idea. >> do you think if someone gets caught, they deserve a fine? >> yes, they do. >> some question whether there are a safety measure or a moneymaker. >> the police to permit focuses on public safety. i have not been part of any conversation regarding revenues that may be generated from this. if our motorists abide by the law, we generate nothing. >> the council will vote on the plan. the cameras could be in place as early as october. the vines would be $40 which would help maintain the cameras. >> in our project economy report

tonight, the u.s. postal service is looking to close as many as 1000 offices around the country, including five in the baltimore area. the problem is red ink. nearly $7 billion in potential losses this year. the agency is prepared to make drastic cuts. it is operating at a $7 billion loss. it has been struggling with a sharp decline in mail volume as people and businesses switched to the internet. the affected locations in the baltimore area include thompson town center. for a list, go to our web site at wbaltv.com and click on local news. the cash for clunkers program may stall this friday unless the senate fills the programs tank with some gas. the request is $2 billion. our reporter has this project economy report. >> which the u.s. senate considering letting the program

money from the estate. police in columbus ohio are investigating whether officers used to much force in taking down a knife-wielding elderly morning. in 83 year-old woman was caught in a wal-mart parking lot holding a knife and threatening to get anyone who came close. when customer called police. she was asked to put her nightgown. she did not comply. they were forced to -- she was asked to put her knife down. she did not comply. there were forced to take her down. >> i think they used to much force for someone that old. >> she was treated for several cut to her head. no word if she has alzheimer's. federal aviation investigators are looking into an emergency landing at miami international airport this morning. an international continental flight leaving houston hit a

patch of turbulence and fell 6,000 feet. several people were injured, all 179 passengers survived. our reporter has more on this great scare. >> continental flight 128 made an emergency landing at miami international airport after the pilot reported the plane hit severe turbulence. many passengers were injured. 13 were transferred to local hospitals. some had a head, neck, and back injuries. >> i hit my head on the roof of the ceiling. then i fell down and hit it on the monitor in front of me. >> these voters taken by a passenger showed the aftermath. medics were cleaning up. in a statement, continental airlines says it the fasten seat belt sign was eliminated during the flight. the majority of passengers on board had them on. >> [unintelligible]

this girl was bleeding. >> the overnight flight originated in brazil and was bound for houston. it was up 36,000 feet. pilots reported a severe turbulence. flight attendants were in the aisles serving and passengers did not know what would happen next when it hit the turbulence. >> i have never seen turbulence like that. i really thought we would not make it. >> once on the ground, the believed passengers hugged and waited until they could board other flights headed to houston. the aviation officials are investigating the cause. wbal tv 11 news. >> passengers back here on baltimore back here on a southwest airlines flight had a scare. it was forced to make an emergency landing. it was at the b.w.i. airport.
