cleaned up but road repair going on between roland and falls road also road repairs in the city charles street closed between center street and reid street going on until about 7:00 a.m. monday morning, so something to be aware of as you head into the weekend as well. we'll give you a look at some of the speed crenscrors, all in the green and up to speed to be major roadways. at the harrisburg expressway north of the belt way you can see things moving fine there and 8 5 at the harbor tunnel things moving fine and no major problems on those roadways to report. that's the latest on traffic pulse 11. >> an investigation into a stolen car turns into a deadly accident. >> the tragic scene took place in west baltimore. jennifer franciotti joins us live from city police with details. >> police say the suspect was

driving at a high rate of speed when he hit a nissan causing it to flip over several times killing the woman inside. >> flipped several times, then smashed up against the wall. sound horrible. it just a big just crash. just like that. i mean, i didn't even get a chance to blink my eyes. >> it was real loud, like a boom! loud. >> this coop was driven by an alleged carjacker spotted in mulberry but police called off their brief pursuit quickly. >> the officers were not pursueing the car at the time of the crash. they found the vehicle and got the alert that it was taken in an armed carjacking but based on the way the driver reacted when he saw the police, drove erratically, out of control, they were ordered to break it off at which time he did so, however, he continued on. >> the suspect's car was going at an extreme rate of speed

just before the car collided with this nissan. the woman's car hit more than four times and was knocked more than 60 feet from the intersection. the name of the victim is not being released. the suspect suffered minor injuries and was taken to shock trauma. >> wbal-tv 11 news. >> thank you. well animal control is investigating a terrible case of abuse a kitten stoned and set on fair to not once but twice allegedly by a group of kids. some of the images were so graphic we could not put them to be air and have blurred them out. >> yes, -- >> this kitten is getting some tlc that's long overdue. the kitten was tortured for sport. >> there were two young boys who were throwing stones and bricks at the cat and then they went and caught the cat and poured a liquid on it and set it on fair to. >> witnesses say it happened here on garrison avenue in late july and say the cat rolled

over and put out the flames then the boys caught her and put her on fair to again and the cat lived to be streets for a week before animal control tracked her down. >> she had the will to live and make it through it. >> although she looks ok from this ang the cat suffered extensive burns on her right side. they are optimistic she will recover but the head of the new anti-animal apuse task force says this is not an isolated accident. >> the cats are so vulnerable because there's so many out on the street. four cats have been tortured and killed. this is the fifth cat. >> depriffen is hopefull witnesses will cooperate otherwise she fears the people who hurt this kitten will go on to hurt people. this is not simply an animal problem. it starts here but will continue. this violence will continue and get worse. >> i'm kerry cavanaugh. wbal-tv 11 news. >> the rescue group recycle

love will take over the kitten and the kitten is currently on painkillers and they hope she will croffer just as long as she can fight off infection. >> once installed panels will provide half of the hot water use in the mansion other things include temp controls. >> we're trying to lead by example and i think all of us can be leaders by example if we do everything we can to conservative energy and move forward with more renewable forms of energy like solar. >> the o'malleys have ramped up recycling and installed an irrigation system that uses collected rainwater. >> kids have played with dolls that ate, played, talked and even wet the bed but a new doll that teaches little girls about breast feeding causes concern for parents.

>> top of the morning to you. 668 degrees downtown. the sun will officially be up shortly after 6 a.m. we're going to see a nice dose of sunshine for you today. a high of about 80-85. tonight partly cloudy and staying very dry. winds tonight are going to shift out of the south west so we'll be a bit milder than we are out there this morning. the sun will set at 8:12 p.m. for more details on the weekend, stay tuned to my full weather forecast coming up in just a bit. >> in thong's medical alert a study shows having a stroke doubles the risk of breaking the hip or if he measure. a new study included data on more than 33,000 adults over a 10-year period. stroke survivors were particularly vulnerable to bone breaks within the first three months after a stroke.

this showed higher rates of mineral bone density loss after a stroke. the fracture risk was also more prone in women over 70. >> women on ladies nights out tend to do more drinking and eating. groups of women who ate with a large group of other women consumed the most calories but the calorie count went down in smaller groups and decreased substantially if a man was brought spot group. speak of men, nothing affected the amount of calories they consumed. the time is 5:41. coming up you still have time to cash in on your clunker. the government has pumped more money into the program. >> and you're lookaling at downtown baltimore. up next weather and traffic. stay with us.

and the mark trains on time as well. bring your family to metro family movie night tomorrow from 6-10 p.m. at the metro station parking lot free with drawings and "hotel for dogs" movie. i'm kurt kroncke. back to sandra shaw. >> it's going to be a hot weekend for sure but we've evaded all the intense heat. above normal by the second half of the weekend however let's rewind and go to today because it's going to be lovely out there. high pressure extending its reach from the midwest so hard-pressed to even find any clouds out there. it will be a gorgeous sunrise up at about 6:15 manage. rather cool temperatures, 54 in york, pennsylvania. so very pleasant there. 68 downtown. typically the warmest location but 61 at the airport.

61 at easton and 69 at ocean city. taking a look at dew points, very low. we're dealing with 50-degree dew points. when we're humid we're usually in the upper 60's and low 70's. no significant hint for a shower until maybe late in the day on saturday when a warm front will change our weather pattern for the second half of the weekend. almost like a spring day outside today, though. mostly sunny in the upper elevations. here in baltimore probably going to reach a high of 85 near the chesapeake bay. winds light. a nice breath of fresh air, if you will. as we take a look at the shorse of ocean city surf temperature dropped a little bit. 69 degrees if you're taking a dip into the atlantic. air quality -- green air quality meaning good air quality with the exception of the city. that's yellow. so if you're sensitive, not the

best of days. waves one foot and the water temperatures horring in the low 80's to upper 70's. we should only be 86 degrees for this august 7 so we're going to be a little below that. 65 is our average low. 105, we have the ability to get to that triple digit but our heat index could be in the triple digits by this weekend with the combination of heat and humidity. tonight we're going to be a little milder. partly cloudy and dry. 64-67 with the winds shifting to the south west. front off the shore, high pressure the dominant feature, other than that a lack of major activity going on. saturday night a warm front and with that a lot more intense air mass as far as heat and humidity goes. you'll see a great increase in the temperatures.

85 day in -- today in ocean city. 91 on sunday on the beach. but here inland on sunday we're going to surge to 95 degrees. hazy, hot and humid. one of the hottest days of the year could be monday, 96 degrees. a big dome of high pressure, ridge of high pressure gives us heat and humidity for sunday and monday. >> thank you, sandra. lawmakers put more gas into the cash for clunkers, car owners who want to trade in their gas guzzler have a few more weeks to qualify. >> congress' decision to extend the program. >> stan and mindy. the program had been in danger of running out of money a victim of its own success. >> the auto industry credits the cash for clunkers program for luring consumers back on to the lot. car owners receive a voucher of up to $4500 for trading in vehicles earning less than 17

miles per gallon. >> consumers could see this actually work. >> it was working so well that the $1 billion program nearly ran out of money in just 10 days. >> the bill is passed. >> thursday's senate vote pumped an additional $2 billion into the initiative. the white house says it should extend the program until labor day. >> this should be called the debt for clunkers because we're creating debt for our children. the cash for clunkers program is simply another bailout to prop up another struggling industry wrapped in the political guise of an environmently friendly program. >> but -- >> do you support the small business dealers across this country or not? >> in a written statement president obama praised the vote saying the initiative has got at any most air polluting vehicles off the road and put

people back to work. wbal-tv 11 news. >> us parents across the country prepare to stock up for their kids back to school shopping many are counting to be tax-free shopping day to help but right now maryland won't be among them. 15 states are offering tax-free days and back to school shopping is expected to be down so tax-free days give retailers a chance to boost sales. >> our research shows an uptick in sales sometimes as high as 40%. not all states are willing to give up that rev now in the face of tightening budgets. maryland hopes to reenstate tax-free days next year. >> you might want to grab a light jacket. >> and we'll take a look at one of your answers to our water cooler question of the day. >> and here's the maryland winning lottery numbers. good luck.

liver cancer, type 2 diabetes and parkinson's disease. while it may help keep blood sugar more stable it could raise ldl cholesterol. >> it could help remove levels of high cholesterol with more study. >> i need my third cup. >> i feel stronger already now. [laughter] hey, let's get to some of the answers to our water cooler question of the day. >> this morning we asked do you think a doll that teaches children about breast feeding is too much, too soon? >> well, ericka in baltimore writes not only is it too young, it's too creepy. why are we pushing our kids to grow up so fast? it sends the message to little girls that having babies is fun. >> we know that's not true.
