this is wbal-tv. >> i am donna hamilton. it rob will be back on monday. we begin with breaking news from baltimore city. police are searching for a couple. they believe that the woman may have been abducted by her boyfriend, a 34 year-old man. police believe that williams may be heading to virginia. if you have any information on their whereabouts, you are asked to call baltimore police. the big story tonight, police have closed the investigation into the deaths of two teenagers that were hit by a light rail train. the family now plans to sue the mta. many answers -- many questions are unanswered. >> what the videotape shows is the two boys walking on the tracks.

the train approaches them and then you see the two boys disappear. >> now that the investigation is complete, we get an idea of what investigators were looking at as a look into the death of the teenagers. they were killed as they were hit from behind by a light rail train while walking on the tracks. investigations showed that cell phones and illegal substances had nothing to do with the tragedy. sun flare and the sharpness of the track led to the accident. >> this train stopped and he had to take some corrective measures to get it back on. the unfortunate thing is, he did not know what he had struck. >> there was a little anger and then a little disappointment. the left the meeting, please with the county that they had at least done a fair investigation. >> j. miller is now

representing in speaking for the two families. he claims that a conductor that passed the boys on the track before they were killed never informed his command or other trains about them. when asked how difficult it would be to present the case, miller said that the mta made no attempt to try to fix the situation before was too late. >> of their last chance to prevent this accident was with them if the mta had done what they should have done, these boys would be alive today. >> mta officials now plan to open up their own investigation into those deaths. police are investigating a shooting in east baltimore. a man was shot in the hip about 9:30 p.m. tonight. the victim is being treated at the hospital while police searched for the shooter. the convicted sniper in the murders of 10 people in a four

state shooting spree had his murder conviction and death sentence upheld today. a panel rejected several claims by mohammad, including that he was not competent to act as his own attorney at trial. he will now appeal to the u.s. supreme court. some good news for people who travel through and live around north baltimore. that intersection at no. park wearing -- northern parkway and the interstate, traffic is moving once again. things are not good on the other side of the city. there is another water main break that ruptured at 10:30 a.m. this morning. jim joins us. >> we have a very active seen tonight. crews are still here and working as they have been all day to fix

this water main break. the department of public works is not sure what caused the water main to break but it caused a lot of problems for nearby homeowners >> that is a tv that was way back there. >> this is what her basement looks like after she got an emergency call from neighbors and rushed home from work. >> i looked at and this is only about 4.5 feet of water. she found her tv floating and her computer and other items destroyed, including some artwork by her cousin. her neighbor was still trying to pump the for field water from his own basement. >> i have a lot of damage. my hot water heater is damaged and my furnace is damaged. i have sentimental items damaged. >> many people suffered. a water main burst around 10:30 a.m. on friday morning and flooded about eight homes. >> we do not know how this introduce homes. there was an indication of flooding and it may have gone

through this storm drain. >> the housing department, red cross and transportation department were on the scene to assist the affected residents. crews worked to try to fix the water main. most of the homeowners we talked to are optimistic. >> my whole house is not demolished. it just the basement. >>-- is just the basement. >> crews will be working around the clock until the main is fixed. they hope the road will be open by tomorrow. >> thank you, jim. there is good news on the horizon. president obama stated that the jobless rate is at 9.4%. that is a slow down and lost

only been in effect for seven days and some already have concerns. the university of maryland assistant registrar, nick lowery. >> we look at numbers as they come out and the numbers are going up and up and up. >> if the grants are not processed, students would see a delay in supplies, housing assistance and tuition. the va has reached out to the states and schools to strongly encourage them to demonstrate flexibility when working with students receiving education benefits. >> the university set up a system where we are in direct contact so that students do not have difficulties with the registration. >> while the university will help with tuition until the va

the lender must turn over data on baltimore loans and make company officials available for deposition. the city as sood wells fargo last year, saying that it targeted minorities for bad loans that led to foreclosures and cost the city millions of dollars. wells fargo denies that race was a factor. >today, maryland officials reported the fifth death related to the swine flu. they just say that the victim had underlying health issues. this comes as officials worked to get schools prepare for a possible outbreak this fall. sally kidd has more on that story. >> of the new guidelines are said to not only prevent the spread of the virus but to minimize disruptions for schools, parents and employers. >> students at this element for

tomorrow, a huge milestone when a player is inducted into the pro football hall of fame. he played only four of his 17 years for the ravens. he will wear the only super bowl ring and he won in his remarkable career with the ravens. 71 interceptions in the third most in nfl history. he played most of his career with pittsburgh. when he goes into the hall tomorrow, his induction will provide a somewhat of a first. there was plenty of hands-on training for the orioles. he gets his second win of the season tonight as the outfielder survived the good the bad and the ugly.
