so-called death panels. the house version of the bill would provide medicare reimbursements to patients seeking end-of-life counseling, but lawmakers said they dropped that provision from the senate version. >> today the president focus his pitch on a plan that would prevent insurance companies from drops dropping or limiting coverage from those who become seriously ill. >> in other news this morning, a car crash in mount vernonon brought the town to a standstill all because of the high-profile drive driver. >> michael phelps crashed his car last night when he collided with a woman driving a honda. everyone ob ok? >> everyone is ok, and no one was hurt in the crash, including michael phelps. the people that live in that mount vernonon neighborhood are hoping the high-profile accident will draw attention to what they call long-standing safety

problems. >> two crunched cars blocked traffic on north calvert and east bid l street. even though the driver wore a ravens jersey, he was still recognizable as olympic champion michael phelps. >> we knew it was michael phelps, and we knew it would get a lot of public scrutiny, so we had our best people on it. >> it happened before thursday night's ravens game let out around 9:00 p.m. police say phelps was driving an escalade that collided with a honda. >> we're going to find out if chog alcohol is a factor -- >> police say it does not appear that alcohol was a fktor. these photos show fell ppeds on scene with -- phelps on the scene with police. the investigators say he and his passengers were not hurt, and the other driver was taken to the hospital as a precaution. >> i'd like to see something done about it, though, maybe

more enforcement, do something about the speed limit here or even a delayed yellow on one of the lights. >> it is not every day you see one of the most famous agentslets in the world on your street. people are hoping it will draw attention to outstanding safety concerns. >> i think drivers should be careful in general, no matter who you are. especially if you are driving to the city and especially if you are in my neighborhood. >> no word on who is at fault in that accident. >> the federal aviation administration says two employees have been placed on administrative in connection with that deadly collision over the hudson river. this was shot a new york city tourist. the f.a.a. says the air traffic controller was involved in an inappropriate phone conversation at the time of the crash.

the employee's actions don't appear to have contributed to the accident itself. nine people were killed in that crash. >> a federal grand jury has convicted adrian gillian jr. who is accused of selling a pistol to his girlfriend before mcnair was shot. >> the nfl is raking in big bucks again. michael vick signed a two-year deal with the philadelphia eagles. he hasn't played since 2006 since running a dog fighting ring in virginia and serving two years. he has ban loud to sign with the team but he's prohibited from all games except the last two preseason games. he said he would consider full reason statement by vick by week six at the latest. that brings us to our "water

cooler question of the day." what do you think of the philadelphia eagles' decision to re-sign michael vick? >> a former howard county school employee will spend 16 months behind bars. robert douglas john ston plead guilty to having a two-year relationship with a 15-year-old -- now 17-year-old -- student. he has been a howard county school employee for 40 years. >> the time now 35:37. -- 5:37. you pro probably know how much doing nothing can affect your health? >> plus, can't seem to wake up in the morning zph -- morning? >> this is more like you. do you sleep for three hours and feel like the energizer bunny when you wake up? >> some people can function on a few hours of sleep and others can not.

range. 84 to 86. more and including your seven-day coming up in a bit. mindy? >> in this morning's "medical alert," some people need their beauty rest, but others a few hours and they are ready to go again. researchers at the university of california, san francisco, say it could be because of our genes. they say the latter group may have a genetic predisposition that allows them to function normally on very little sleep. they studied a mother and daughter who needed less sleep. they are able to link to a gene which links to circadian rhythm. they say it is a rare phenomenon, so you should still try to get your regular amount of sleep. >> researchers say inactive lifestyle is the greatest threat to the health of americans. they studied 80,000 men and

>> good morning. it's a nice one. we're not dealing with any incidents, thankfully, and we're checking our speed sensors, and not a lot to complain about, which is always good on a friday. five minutes on southbound 95 to get you from 895 down to the fort mchenry toll. let's give you a look. a live view of traffic heading out. north and southbound moving very well. although southbound does have a bit more volume than northbound. let's switch over to a live view of traffic. picking up in volume. it's still not amounting to much. no delays to report at there hour. that's the latest on traffic pulse 11. let's get the latest on the buses and trains. for that we go to kurt kroncke at the m.t.a. >> a slay delay on the hamden line. 36 bus with a 10-minute delay.

that 36 bus is diverting at the alameda and kirk avenue and water main break. the 33 bus bypassing armistead gardens due to construction. now back to sandra shaw. >> i think weather wise there will be no problems this weekend. we're not expecting any major showers and thunderstorms. we'll be seasonable. warm, but not unbearable like we felt earlier in the week. as far as h.d. doppler goes, a trough off shore with a low-pressure area that gave us showers and storms yesterday, and very short-lived nature. we had a couple downtown in the early evening hours. a couple overnight, but nothing significant. it is off shore now. not going to be playing a major role. high pressure will take over the scene later today. 73 downtown now. 8 at b.w.i. marshall.

in the mountains of western maryland today, a little more instability, so they have a better shot of seeing some showers and thunderstorms. the high up there, a warmer 78 degrees than they saw yesterday when they were only in the mid 70's. here in central maryland, it looks like 86 degrees. 86 is our normal high for august the 14th. it looks like we're on target to hit that benchmark. partly cloudy. slight chance for storms on the shores closer to the water. water temperature is now anywhere from 72 do 76 in the atlantic. scanty warm in the in the chesapeake bay. waves a foot or less. east-northeast at six to 12 knots. set back in 1985. the record low for this day is 1981 and it was set back in 1961. tonight in the mid to upper 60's. partly cloudy and dry. so any friday night plans, outdoors, no problems whatsoever. high pressure we can thank for
