outraged saying the maximum sentence of 90 days in jail are too lenient. kim has more. >> debra, the folks here say this is the sixth incident involving cat abuse in two months in baltimore city and county. they are appalled by the tails of this incident, in edgemere last sunday. police say while the cat's owner was on vacation, kevin abel was house-sitting and had friends over. according to reports, rioux put the cat in a dryer and america wife. then he put the cat in a bag filled with rocks and threw it in lynch point. some say the punishment just isn't enough. >> i think there needs to be a bigger lesson here. there definitely needs to be

counselling on top of more jail time. people need to know this is unacceptable. a lot of people say it is just a cat or an animal, but it is a living being. >> abel and mcdowell were released on their own recoming distance. >> and a cat cruelty case in howard county has ended with a 74-day jail sentence. that is how long he will spend behind bars after police found 74 dead cats in her columbia home in 2006. official responded to the home after neighbors complained about an odd other. four people are covering after an accident involving an ambulance in southwest baltimore. city medical number 12 collided with a small s.u.v. at the intersection of edmonton avenue and dennniso street.

the two people in the s.u.v. were treated at the university of maryland medical center. >> exactly how this descend occurred has not yet been determined. we have our investigators on location to make some assessments and determinations. >> the person in the ambulance was unhurt and then taken by another ambulance to the hospital. olympic swim star michael phelps will have to explain why he was driving without a valid drivers license after own accident thursday night. another driver ran a red light. phelps will have to tell a judge why he was driving with a michigan license. the driver of the other vehicle faces a $180 fine and possibly three points on her driving record. the search continues for the convicted fell on accused of assaulting a howard county sheriff's deputy before escaping custody. 20-year-old devin champagne was

change in their lives. that includes renewing their faith and supporting their families. funds raised from today's march will support baltimore's helping up mission. rudy gay helped more than 150 students get a great start for back to school today. he hosted a back to school party at baltimore's espn zone. he encouraged children to get a healthy start back to score. gay told them that it does not include that cake, including good hygiene and being responsible. they got a backpack full of school supplies. >> they are getting acclimated back to the school setting, but half of it is getting the right things. >> the students had the chance to win laptops, i-pods and special prizes. >> a little treat now and again. >> nice. you have a twist on john harbaugh? >> a fill solve colorado guy.

maryland. >> they say using renewable energy stops waste and saves money. people from three countries gathered in northeast baltimore so celebrate service and 30 years of u.s.-china relations. they marked the occasion by cleaning the park. they are delegates from the sixth annual youth assembly at the united nations. >> well, what you saw there, a beautiful day to be outside at the park. a look on satellite showing a few clouds to the south. not much for us to be concerned with. this is a pattern that we are going to be happy to have over the next few days. temperatures holding mainly in the 80's up and down the east coast. a few 90's across the southwest, not a concern about warm temperatures for us. we are going to be at average or a little above the next few days, but not the searing heat we saw last week. 89 in baltimore.

83 in cambridge. 88 in frederick. 83 in ocean city. woe managed to top out at 86 at b.w.i., but the inner harbor warm up more at 88 degrees. our records previously were above 100. just a few clouds for tonight. possibly patchy fog. when you see clear skies and light to calm winds, we run that risk. high pressure is our friend. it allows for clear and calm winds. our winds are going to pick up out of the south and southwest. our temperatures are going to be flirting wit 90 the next few days. a cold front pushing its way in will provide a chance for rain on tuesday. but sunday and monday, two days to be just winners outs. in the trick we are looking at two tropical storms.

this small one is anna, and this is tropical storm bill. both of them are just barely tropical storms. they are at 40 miles an hour. they are going to be taking similar tracks over the next five days. by thursday we expect anna to still be a tropical storm and just off miami around the florida keys. not the best vacation weather. we are watching bill very closely. there are still a lot of problems with bill's forecast. we are still looking in the future with this. by thursday we are expecting it to be a category two and take a track very close to anna, all -- although there is a chance bill about will move to the north and across the open atlantic. we need to watch this storm for the potential to go toward florida. >> tomorrow back home, 86-90 degrees. how about the cal rib ken world

other meetings around the country as staged and unnecessary, we completely disagree. not only are town hall meetings a great forum to get the facts and ask your elected official questions and understand the complexities of the health care bill, they are american government in action. there is no substitute for discourse. an exchange of ideas should not be the exception, but rather the norm. it seems as if these past years, the conveniences of modern technology have made kelvin sampson casey a spectator sport. it is not. nothing can replace face to face communication with our officials. these meetings have not only raised the level of debate, but they have created awareness. the importance of being heard and exercising our right to free speech. unfortunately, while those who choose to shutout, finger-point and name-call will get more attention than they deserve, the importance of public discourse should not be lost.
