[captioning made possible by constellation energy group] captioned by the national captioning institute --www.ncicap.org-- >> tonight baltimore city police continue to investigate after a fight at the inner harbor leads to two men gunned down. good evening, i am deborah weiner. it is our big story. tonight 11 news speaks to a witness who was too close for comfort. he was working at a nearby business when the gunfire ruptured. kim is downtown with more. >> it is much quieter down here tonight than a.l. night at this time. police swarmed the harbor and evacuated the light street pavilion after two people were shot. >> it looked like a normal sunday evening. >> a lot of fun and family entertainment. >> no evidence that less than

24 hours before two people were shot. >> it was pandemonium. complete chaos. >> marcus was working at his boothe inside the pavilion saturday newt. it was just after 10:00 when a fight broke out. >> it was just around the corn are and you could hear the confrontation. you heard shots, and everybody ran past my stand. i got out of the building. >> a 20-year-old man was shot in the leg and a 17-year-old shot in the forearm. they were both taken to the hospital and are expected to be ok. right now police are interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance fooge. police visiting the inner harbor are shocked. >> it is really unbelievable, to be honest with you. as much as people are visible around, walking up aun do not, it is really surprising. >> sunday night the police officers were just as visible patroling the area. and the visitors we spoke with say this incident wouldn't stop

them from mcgahee a trip back to baltimore. >> there are just so many people here, i would feel very safe right here. >> i would think it would be random and would happen in any town and wouldn't stop me from coming. >> police are asking anyone with any information to give them a call. reporting live, wbal-tv 11 news. >> and mayor sheila dixon released a statement saying in part we will not tolerate the inner harbor for those though break the law, intimidate or create a nuissance of any kind. we have a lot of police employed there, and well work swiftly to improve security. police have taken one man into custody after a shooting. the victim was rushed to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the face. he is listed in stable condition. howard county sheriff's department is offering a $5,000

>> taking a day off on his western swing, president obama visited the grand canyon. it's a fitting metaphor as he tries to bridge the chasm in the health care debate. as a town hall meeting in colorado, he tried to explain his plan. >> things like we want to set up death panels to pull the plug on grandma. come on. >> in an op-ed piece he writes i don't believe anyone should be in charge of your health care decisions but you and your doctor. republicans say if there are misunderstanding, it is because democrats are rushing the process. >> when people can't get a copy of the bill to read, they come up and say what does this mean. some of this is so poorly written that it can lead to different conclusions. >> some democrats are talking

about going it alone. >> it appears to be that the republicans are just not going to cooperate no matter what. >> but others say an issue this important needs a bipartisan solution. >> what we have agreed to is we are going to be ready when we are ready. we are working. we hope to be able to reach conclusion by the middle of september. >> until then, the president will continue his campaign to sell health care reform and try to bring more americans over to his side of the political divide. the white house is now signaling it may be willing to give up on the so-called public option, the controversial plan that may not have enough senate support to survive anyway. >> one local politician is doing his part to make sure residents are informed about health care. this morning, democrat line gate emmett burns held a prayer vigil of protection for president obama. meanwhile, he is planning a community health forum of his own to clarify what he says may

>> covering the world tonight, in kuwait at least 41 women and children died after fire tore through a wedding tept. dozens more injured. terry smith has the story. >> all that remains at the end of a day that should have been the happiest of their lives. it took three minutes for the tent housing the wedding celebration to become consumed in flames. inside were more than 100 women and children. in keyong with local custom, the men were celebrating in a separate tent. many died in the panic which caused a stampede for the exit. kuwait's chief fire officer said this was one of the main causes of the high death toll. [speaking in native tongue] >> the dead had only one exit, he said, which caused a stampede when the fire broke out, leading to the death of

more victims. these tents like the necessary authorized safety equipment. tents that we authorize are equipped with multiple fire exits. >> more than 70 guests were taken to the hospital with burns, several described as being in serious condition. investigators believe faulty wiring on equipment to keep food warm could have caused the blaze. and the up hole industry was described as highly flammable. kuwait has now banned the use of wedding tants. >> and a pilot was killed during an air show rehearse alin russia. two russian air force fighters crashed near moss company. two plits are listed in good condition. five people were seriously injured when one jet slammed into a house. officials belief it could have been caused by pilot error.

police say a gunman used a semiautomatic weapon to kill his brother and three others. he killed a 22, 25 and 15-year-old brother. the gunman is in critical condition. police say they are investigating possible gang affiliations. a florida teenager says no distance is far enough to stand in the way of your dreams. 14-year-old david ash bistarted his journey from orlando in june and walked 1, 100 miles to spread awareness about homeless children. today he reached his goal, the nation's capital. he had to give up most of his summer for the walk, but the cause was well worth it. >> we still have our dreams. that is amazing. even though life has been hard on them. they have still have their hopes and dreams. >> he still hopes to meet with president obama to talk about homeless issues, but he hasn't

heard back yet. >> capping off what was a pleasant weekend as far as weather was concerned outside. now a fairly pleasant evening shaping up. on satellite, a few clouds trying to move into baltimore. they are passing clouds. generally, though, pretty clear. we will be waking up to sunshine tomorrow morning. temperatures right now still on the mild side now. 80 in dulles. 79 in annapolis, 77 in cummings we are land, 75 in ocean city and 73 in salisbury. we managed to top out at 90 at the airport. the inner harbor at 92. that is a little above our average of 85 this time of year. the humidity on the lower side. mostly clear for the rest of the night. 62-70 degrees, winds out of the south. it is going to try to pump in a little more humidity tomorrow. still another winner of a day.

that high will continuing to sink a little to the south, bringing in more of a southeasterly wind, trying to bring in more humidity, but not so much that it will feel pressive outside. this cold front is slowing down a little bit as claudette is gumming up the works down south. this front is not expected to reach here until wednesday. here is the latest on tropical storm claudette. it is just now making lavelle 25 miles to the west of panama city. wind gusting about 50 miles per hour and plenty of rain. it will push its way into alabama tomorrow. it was just a tropical depression at 5:00 a.m. in the atlantic, bill continues to strengthen. not a lot is left of anna, which is great news, that track is going to take it across

cuba. at this point, it is probably not going to be more than a nuisance rainstorm. we have to watch bill closely. it is still looking to be strenking to a category three hurricane, which is a major hurricane. some of the models want to take it to a category four status. it is too early to say for sure where bill is going to go. the best data wants to keep him out to sea. for your day tomorrow, mostly sunny, 88-93. winds out of the south. cal ripken worlse, it is going to be a great -- world series a great date. for the rest of the state, 80's and 90's mblingts your seven-day forecast shows a chance of thunderstorms developing late tuesday

padraig harrington blue up. 14th, yang two shots back to start the day, chipping for eagle at the short par four. tiger-like on the touch. woods mansion the birdie, one of the few putts he made, one shot back at minus 7. the 17th, this the sumation of woods' day. he hits a flat-out nuked 7 iron. yet he is dead in the rough. yang, still a one-shot lead, refusing to give tiger the chance to steal his show. the approach, one for the ages, stuffs it from 206 yards. woods finally relents. yang, one more fist pump and then closing things out in style. rolls home the birdie to win the pga championship by three strokes, the first asian man to win a major.
