excess of a category 3 hurricane. here, nothing. we are hard-pressed to find any rainshowers over the next couple of days. 86 downtown, 82 at the airport, and we are going to have for a high of 92 degrees in central maryland today, with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies. i have that and the rest of the tropics action in the open. >> efforts to close the state's budget shortfall will mean less money for local governments at this weekend's annual maryland association of counties in ocean city. the governed -- the governor announced his intention to cut $250 million from local governments. lieutenant-general anthony brown discussed the plan on sunday morning. >> you may see cuts to community colleges, aid for law enforcement. these are not unique to maryland. part of the national recession we are in, a global recession. we are going to work with the

general assembly and local governments, but they will not be easy. >> the latest proposed cuts are part of a plan to cut $750 million by the end of the summer. the governor is expected to bring $470 million in reductions to the board of public works by august 26. the board approved $280 million in cuts last month. all this and efforts to close the $700 million budget shortfall. one man is dead and another hospitalized after an early- morning stabbing in college park. officers were called to check on two people who fell on the ground on the 8900 block of rhode island avenue around 4:00 this morning the man had suffered cuts and were taken to hospital, where one was pronounced dead. there is no word on the current condition of the other male in the stabbing. 3 people are charged with animal abuse for allegedly torturing a cat. the hooper family returned from vacation to find that their kin had been killed. the family says they left the cat in the care of a family

tiger woods entered the final round of the last off major of the year with a commanding lead, but y.e. yang chipped in for a stunning eagle on the 14th hole to grab the lead and never let tiger woods' back in the tournament. he sank a birdie to win by three shots to become the first career in golfer to win a major. it is also the first time in 15 times that tiger was lost a major after leading are being tied for the lead following the third round. a lot fire continues to burn out of control in northern california -- a wild fire continues to burn out of control in northern california. it is destroyed 3300 acres. jumped the river and is moving away from the sierra nevada foothills. right now there are voluntary evacuation orders in effect with the fires threatening about 600 homes in the area. history made earlier this morning in cape canaveral, florida. a delta 2 rocket made its final plunge as it carried a gps satellite into orbit.

as far as the almanac information goes, the record for today is going to be stable. it was set back in 1997. in 1979, a 53-degree record low. we will be about 65 to 70 overnight tonight. we all have high pressure at our surface, the bermuda high, keeping us high and dry. the cold front will move through and stall and to our west, and that will give us more caught by thursday and friday. low pressure, topical aipac -- tropical depression over the deep south. we have several things in the tropics. anna is unimpressive as a tropical depression. it will go into the panhandle of the big bend area of florida. it could dissipate today and reemerge as just a pile of showers and storms.

of more concern is for mccain bill, the first name hurricane of the season -- is a hurricane bill, the first name to a hurricane of the season. we are talking about a category 3 hurricane. with an excess of 110 miles per hour. counterclockwise rotation, and oppressive hurricane. this morning when it became an named storm, it was 75-mile-per- hour winds. now 95. it is located 1,000 mi. to the east of the western antilles. moving along at a good clip. people will continue to monitor it as we refine the forecast when it gets closer to land. for the next several days, a dry start to the week. showers and storms possible by mid-week. another fund to generate storms over the weekend. >> mexican authorities are keeping a close eye on the
