effect for carroll county with some heavy downpours still falling there. this combination of wet, moist air will lead the first half of tomorrow. tropical storm danny is still making its approach to the mid- atlantic. it, too will hit the mid- atlantic. do>> storms are certainly to blame for a fire that damaged the church. lightning was less than 5 miles away. it was in the 700 block of hotel -- a home in the 700 block of the avenue it was also struck. >> there is a big crash, we thought a car came through our fans. >> we could see smoke, but we could not tell where it was coming from.

we have more with where the dogs were taken. >> animal control has the dog right now. they are being cleaned and given the medical attention they need. officials hope to find them good homes where they are treated much better from -- at much better than the home they came from. they lived in deplorable conditions. >> you could hear the dogs howling and smell the smell. >> and that is why she called officials friday morning. she had no idea how bad it was, and what they would find inside the home along with the dogs. >> dog feces were piled up in the floor of the house. they were fully outfitted so they could handle the stench. >> animal control took the dogs from the home. some were puppies, some were pregnant, and all were on healthy and malnourished. some had fleas and swollen

stomachs because of worms. >> i was crying. it if you had seen the conditions that these dogs were in, no animal should ever live like that. dodge the health department ruled the house unacceptable for human habitation. the husband and wife who lived there were friendly and nice. they had no idea there were some many dogs there or that the conditions inside were so bad. their hearts go out to the animals. >> i hope they can survive once they are cleaned up. maybe someone can adopt them and they can go to a good home. >> to the police called in a crisis response team to help the couple find another place to stay and determine if any charges will be filed. >> we have breaking news in the newsroom.

emergency workers are attempting to rescue three people from a car that has trapped -- and that is trapped in a swollen stream. this is from northern carroll county. firefighters have been working to free the people for about an hour now. we will be able to bring you more as soon as it becomes available. tonight, howard county police say that a man charged with heading a bicyclist was under the influence of a alcohol and could be facing more charges. it was after 12:30 wind aaron hit 16-year-old ben, who was biking. the father says his son and two friends left home from late- night ride -- for a late-night ride. >> please do not believe the victim was wearing a helmet. as far as his bike, we know that

he had a rear reflector. he did not have a front light on the bicycle. >> police also found heroin in the car driver's possession. then -- ben is an organ donor and is kept on life support. >> one of the men who kidnapped a couple and raped a woman is facing two consecutive life sentences. the fourth to the 17-year-old male inside the car trunk while the female was raped. the victims were abandoned. he will be sentenced in october. ingenue tonight, the man accused of kidnapping and 11-year-old girl 18 years ago is now being investigated in the myrtle -- in the murder of several

prostitutes. he worked during the 1990's -- he was a convicted sex offender. he is speaking out about his relationship with the girl he and his wife are charged with abducting. >> for 18 years, this maze of tents and sheds was the prison. it was home for her two young daughters, ages 15 and 11. both father by the man accused of kidnapping her when she was just 11. convicted sex offender philip, and his wife are answering up to dozens of criminal charges in the california court. he tried to defend himself. >> it is something that needs to be understood. >> as the criminal case begins, the family of a kidnapped girl

politics. a british politician used the tv show "the wire" as a point of reference. >> the story starts here. >> knives, guns, drug violence -- >> bemoaning what he says is a rise in crime in great britain. he claims that some parts of the country are now like "the wire." in the gritty series set in baltimore focuses on poverty, drug trafficking, and violence. it drew criticism at home, but the story grew bigger when it was said sheila dixon had joined the critics. the problem is that the mayor made no such statement. the website was fake. they say there was no hacking.

they copied at the site to make it appear that dixon had made the statement. >> they copied the source code of the web site, which is basically impossible to prevent. >> still, the mayor is not amused. it has cost of the city time and money. the lawyers are investigating whether copyright rules were violated. >> the perpetrator of that helps is a british political blogger, and has apologized saying he only meant it as a joke. british officials also called in to clarify his comments. well, he was trapped and 30 feet underground and abandoned. we will show you a dog's dramatic rescue. and the father attacked a group of tv photographers outside of a court room. and well the third time be the charm for the crew aboard space shuttle discovery? we will take you to florida.

name. tonight, nasa is hoping the third time is the charm. you're taking a live look as the space shuttle discovery awaits tonight lot -- awaits tonight's launch. it will include a three space walks if it can get off the ground. we are at the kennedy space center with the story. >> it was a day spent watching the weather. skies seem to offer little hope for the space shuttle discovery. >> at the present time, we have right at the launch pad. >> the shuttle can't fly through rain, cumulus clouds, and will clouds, or lightning. all were problems over the launch pad today. >> it is just south of the pad. it is causing a lot of problems right now.

it is a tight schedule, leaving nasa accounting on discovery -- a leading nasa counting on discovery to leave the ground soon. if it does not launch by then, it will have to prod -- pushed it back until october. >> now, your instaweather plus forecast. >> for the time being, the doppler radar shows the heavy rains moving out of the immediate baltimore area. we are not completely out of the woods yet. flooding rains that have moved through carroll county are pushing up through pennsylvania. that appears to be gone. there are additional showers and the mountains to our west that could slide across central maryland late tonight and early tomorrow. along the southern sections of the state, heavy showers are again posing a threat of heavy

downpours. there is a flood watch for all areas west of the day. the flood watch will go until noon tomorrow. from cecil county, hartford county -- some of those very heavy rains earlier in the evening had a flood warning in effect until 12:30. the general thinking is that it could easily flood low-lying areas and small streams. at the airport, we had a 1.5 inches of rain. there is another line of heavy showers along the shore of the day. -- of the bay. 67 to 73, kind of a muggy overnight. tropical storm danny is spinning off the coast. it is also approaching. as those systems combined, the potential for showers exists.

it is bringing the ball like air -- fall-like air into the great lakes. we will get some of the moisture from it. danny is several hundred miles to the southeast of ocean city. the storm continues up towards cape cod on saturday evening and continues to pull away on sunday. it looks like a bolt -- at the bulk of the storm will remain offshore. there is some dangerous surf and recurrence moving on up towards eastern massachusetts. a little lighter showers might follow the tropical storm on saturday evening. it westerly breeze will try to drag things out. i think there'll be some sunshine in western maryland on sunday. showers and storms around the bay tomorrow. the storm again -- as the storm, again, as offshore.

best places to live for pet lovers. in fact, is the only community in maryland to receive the honor. it was selected because of its location. it is an easy drive to baltimore's animal shelters and offers more than 100 square miles of green space within 50 miles of the city. an unfortunate accident turned into a happy ending for a dog trapped in an old well. crews found the dog in a well around 2:00 this afternoon. his head took up most of the available space. the rescue team had two points to the pooch up to safety. it only suffered a cut above the eye and was taken to the vet to get checked out. >> of the players are getting ready for a chance to score for the coach. the coach.
