partly cloudy skies today with highs at 74 degrees. not normal for the last day of august. more on the trend and a pretty quiet weather trends as well coming out. >> good morning. we still are dealing with a problem we have been seeing since last week. there's a water main break and this is -- and the city, qwest bown saratoga street is closed between martin luther king street and reed street. and there's a gas main break at fayette street between park avenue and utah st.. 50 miles an hour on 70 and 60 downtown. looking good on the road. all green this morning. we will look at the beltway at liberty road. the inner and outer loop is moving fine. 95 in white marsh in both directions moving fine. that is the latest.

back to you. >> our big story this morning, the last two districts return for the school year. >> a lot of excited parents out there this morning. we have live coverage as they return for their first date. tim tooten is outside dunbar high school with more. >> more than 82,000 students going back to the classroom and baltimore city. for those attending paul laurence dunbar high school, they may get the biggest surprise. when they come back this morning, they will find an almost new campus. $32 million pumped into the renovations. students and staff will find a new cafeteria, classroom, and a library. this has been in the works since 2001. gov. o'malley, america, the ceo, analyst dunbar lum i will be on hand to open the east baltimore campus -- and the mayor, and

alumni will be on hand. >> it was sorely lacking in a lot of the more modern amenities with respect to its mission in terms of educating kids in the sciences and in technology. >> that renovation project has been underway for some time. the ceremony is at 8:30 this morning. just outside the beltway in baltimore county, many kids going back to the classroom as well. jennifer franciotti is standing by. >> good morning. you are correct. in baltimore county, is the 26 largest school system in the nation. more than 104,000 students will go back to class in baltimore county. 172 schools expected to open on time today. hopefully, without incident.

that is what school officials are hoping for. dr. joe harris and will be visiting five schools along with a messjim smith, county executi. he wants to make sure everything is running smoothly. 600 new teachers are starting their 2009 school year. this will be exciting for them. it is a little chilly. if you were planning on wearing shorts today, you may want to wear jeans. make sure smalt children are wearing a sweater to the bus stop. there's a chill in the air. jennifer franciotti reporting. but thank you. some good news for students and staff that double its high school. the state has removed it from the persistently dangerous school's list. -- dubois high school.

baltimore city police investigating a shooting in northeast baltimore at the intersection of harford and old harford road around 6:30 last night. a man was shot in the torso and taken to an area hospital. this was the third shooting in baltimore on the weekend. no arrests have been made. >> state natural resources police are looking into the circumstances that led to a boat crashed on marley creek in anne arundel county. a power boat and a smaller craft collided after 6:00 yesterday. 42 year-old john martin's and hs daughter were thrown into the water. >> the boat hit something and flipped over. i saw them aunt took them -- and took them.

one man is dead. >> we have another week before congress comes back to deal with the the health care reform issue. senator ted kennedy gone, the next democrats will have to figure out if they can get and republicans on board. traci potts has more from washington. >> the loss of senator ted kennedy in the middle of trying to crack a deal on health care means democrats need a new leader. they're looking to the white house for help. >> i think the president has to decide he has to frame this again for us. >> congress deeply divided. >> congress has never been more polarized. >> president obama must set a clear course. >> the president will have to win. >> he has failed to articulate a strong message about what he wants and the final bill. >> what republicans what is to start over -- what they want.

properties. hundreds of people were evacuated from the town of all burnt-- of auburn. the station wildfire in the southern part of the state, meanwhile, burns out of control, claiming the lives of two firefighters. it's burned 35,000 acres and swallowed two dozen structures. next door to a police investigating a mass murder on the weekend that left eight people dead. seven people found dead inside a mobile home in brunswick saturday morning. two survived, but were critically injured. if one of them a 90 year-old male died yesterday. neither he nor the lone survivor were able to give police details. police have arrested a man and made a 911 call for an unrelated charges. police have not released how the victims died. 61 degrees on tv hill. coming up cameras mortgag, senie

there's a vehicle fire westbound 195 between washington boulevard and 95. we are checking on that. here is the drive times. 11 minutes from 95 to 83. 895 southbound between 95, 16 minutes. the topside at harvarford road, no problems. things are looking fine on the first day of school so far. that is the latest period for a look at the buses and trains, we go to kurt. qwest the 15 bus is being diverted to saratoga and greene streets because of the water main. the metro subway is on time.

>> visitors continue to pile into arlington national cemetery to get a glimpse of late senator ted kennedy is resting place. the grave site opens to the public yesterday. his grave is marked by a plaque and a simple oak cross. one of only two at the cemetery. the president of the baltimore chapter of the naacp is recognizing senator kennedy's work in congress. it was one of several topics he spoke about while appearing on sunday morning. >> there's no one in the senate or house that has done more for human rights, civil rights, health, than ted kennedy. every bill that affected us in civil-rights, kennedy was eager the sponsor or cosponsor. if you look every year, there was a maze of bills dealing with us and people having
