without incident. baltimore county is the 26 largest school district in the nation. 104,000 students will make their way back to the classroom today. the lights are starting to come on here. everyone excited with anticipation for the new school year. dr. joe harrison will visit five schools along with members of the board of education and county executive jim smith. jessup because school is one of the stops on their list. that school has a new virtual classroom, the first in the nation. the first elementary school on his list is glenmar in middle river. we will catch up with some fifth graders with a television news crew. they will do some televised morning announcements. that will be exciting. it is a little chilly for the first day of school. bring a sweater with you to the bus stop. the buses are rolling. be a lookout for drivers and

students making their way back. now 2 tim tooten at dunbar high school. a lot of excitement over there. >> absolutely. 82,000 students are going back to the classroom in baltimore city. a special excitement for those attending paul laurence dunbar. the city has pumped in $32 million for renovations. students and staff will find a new cafeteria, classrooms, libraries. plans had been in the works since 2001. later this morning gov. o'malley, the mayor, ceo, and others will be on hand for ribbon cutting ceremony. the reason why the dunbar project is key to the community. >> it needed some work. many of our schools do. but dunbar, with its proud history and tradition, was sorely lacking in a lot of the more modern amenities with

respect to its mission in terms of educating kids in the sciences and in technology. >> the project has been on the drawing board for two years. students are going back to find this on their first day. the new entrance is on orleans street. the students will return here for the pres day back in their new building. reporting from east baltimore. >> the new school year brings welcome news to administrators at dubois high school. it has been taken off a list of schools rated "persistently and dangerous." it received a $3.5 million grant last year to address the problem. >> without money or staff committed to the children in the

building, we are no longer on the "persistently dangerous" list -- with our money and staff committed to the children. >> for the latest on the swine flu, known as the h1n1 virus, this week researchers began blood tests to determine the number of a vaccine shots needed to protect against the swine flu. nicole killian has details in washington. >> these tests will determine whether people need to get multiple flu shots this season. delta officials outlined those who moat -- who may be most at risk. >> people with underlying conditions like diabetes, heart disease, lung disease, pregnant women, if they get a fever, probably get treated to avoid getting severely ill. >> doctors will take one or two shots dugard against swine flu. add to that of vaccines for the regular re blow and you could be

>> in west baltimore they are remembering michael white jr., and killed thursday night at the intersection of peston street and fremont ave. police and not made any arrests. >> a 16 year-old bicyclist has met a tragic end after being struck by a suspected drunken driver al-alam broward county road. benjamin wortman was riding when a car and knocked him off the road. aaron jacob lorsong had heroin on him. he was released after paying a bond. in montgomery county, police are looking for a driver responsible for it and run accident in silver spring. the women ages 22 and 29 or in the crosswalk at capitalview avenue. the driver failed to stop, hitting the victims so hard that

two firefighters were killed. to the north, the entire town of auburn, california has been evacuated. that fire threatens to consume the entire town. a mass murder incited george a mobile home has claimed an aids victim. a 90 year-old male died yesterday at a hospital in savannah. seven others were found dead saturday morning. one survivor remains in critical condition. -- it has claimed that ba8th victim. they believe the suspect is still at large. police in antioch, california are expanding their search of the grounds of the couple that kidnapped and raped jaycee lee dugard. they're looking toward evidence that phillip garrido and nancy garrido may have resulted prostitutes in the 1980's. they pled not guilty to a total of 29 counts on friday,

including forcible abduction, rape, and false imprisonment. at the international space station the discovery landed. it lifted off friday night and at the crew of seven are dropping off thousands of pounds of science experiments and equipment, including a treadmill. >> reverse mortgages are one of the newest markets or criminals. the packages offered income to people over 62 by converting their home equity into cash. but homeowners have been stepping in to take advantage of seniors entering into those agreements. there's an increase in fraud cases even as the number of reverse mortgages is expected to grow up to a 165,000 this year. the amount homeowners can borrow jobs to $625,000.
