>> good morning. firefighters in california are struggling to contain a raging wildfire near los angeles. a fire that turned deadly on sunday. two firefighters killed sunday when their vehicle was overrun by films in the so-called station fire and rolled down a mountain side. more than 42,000 acres have burned with dozens of homes. to get more from miguel. >> reporter: the station fair is a monster, swallowing 42 thousand then acres with the burn zone expanding day by day in every direction. >> the fire is moving very quickly and the firefighters are letting the fire come to them. >> reporter: most of the destroyed scrubland, but now entire communities are under siege. fire officials report 18 properties destroyed. nbc news discovered 35 flattened homes in this tujunga neighborhood alone. these are the first pictures of a community completely wiped

>> call the cell phone carrier and say i'm thinking about switching to another carrier. that's usually good for 10 to 20% off. >> your cable bill, there is competition between satellite and the phone companies are offering. >> that's the key to when you are negotiating, they know you can go somewhere else with the cable company. ask for the latest customer promotion. if you won't, say you will go to the telephone provider. that can usually cut your bill as well. >> you can save as much as $46. >> by doing those three things. >> grocery shopping. they are not cheap. what can do you to cut the bill there? >> it's simple. kind of psychological, but 2/3 of our spending is impulse buys. don't go unless you go once a week, bring a list and you are less likely to make the splurges. >> that is psychological. >> if you have a list, you will stay within your budget.

>> can you save by going with the families and going to costco? >> sure. the annual cost can be costly. split it with a family member or a neighbor and it will be cheaper. >> you can save $200 a month? >> that's right. >> buying things at the right time can save you money. i never thought of buying tires as seasonal. >> there is an off season for almost everything you buy. it makes sense if you buy the swimsuit now it will be cheaper and the winter coat in march, it will be cheaper. if you buy tires in july, that's the middle of the driving season and most people buy tires ahead, it's cheaper to buy in the summer. >> kitchen ware? >> in the spring or november are the time when is the stores are trying to clear out ahead of the wedding shopping season and holiday shopping season and may eafr discounts. >> linens.
