morning. on the eastern shore it looks like upper 50's to low 60's. across the state, sunshine. high pressure is keeping us stable and quiet and mild. the trend going to last through the first half of the week. we'll talk about that change coming up. right now let's check in with traffic and sarah. >> hello and good morning. no volume-related delays at the moment. but we have some problems that could create delays southbound on the harrisburg expressway. we have an accident involving a small trailer that overturned there. prior to that you may start to see delays. we're hearing that there are some lanes closed there. meantime, want to remind you some lanes closed, westbound preston at cathedral until noon today. eastbound 32 at 108 in howrt county, an accident that is still clearing. drive times not too bad. 11 minutes outer loop northeast side. same on the outer loop. 10-minute ride from the beltway southwest to 32. 83 at mount carmel, south of the accident scene. might want to consider york road

as an alternate. and a live view of traffic at 50 at maryland 8. moving very well approaching the bay bridge from the eastern shore. back to you. >> thank you. our big story, thi it was a bloy weekend in several baltimore neighborhoods. >> gunfire left two people dead, at least four shootings in the last 48 hours. 11 news reporter kate amara is live at city police headquarters with that story. >> there have been four homicides in the last two days in baltimore city, four shooting incidents on sunday. and these of those were deadly. the spade of shootings on sunday began just after 1:30 a.m. an 18-year-old was shot several times in the 2000 block of mcculloh street. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. the next killing came three hours later in south baltimore, a 35-year-old was gunned down in the 100 block of west craw street just before 4:30 a.m. a man was also murdered just after noon on sunday after being shot in the area of west cold spring lane and reisterstown road in northwest baltimore.

and according to baltimore city police the search is on for whoever gunned down eye man in the 1300 block of west pratt street just after 6:00 p.m. last night. it's a 38-year-old man who was said to be in stable condition at shock trauma this morning. we have reaction now from mayor sheila dixon who spoke to 11 news in the middle of sunday's violent streak. >> we've got to continue to go after illegal guns. i can't stress that any more. we're still working on a whole host of issues. and i think we're making those kind of strides. i do need some trying times? it's really a matter of saying do we want to go backwards or do we want to continue to build on that even though we have less? that's what it's about. are you committed to the plan in making a difference for the citizens of the city? >> and the killing continued into this day. baltimore city police tell us a 31-year-old man was gunned down in the 500 block o 500.

i'm kate amara, wbal-tv 11 news. >> thank you very much. all of this violence comes at the same time a local church is trying to get guns off the streets. at st. gregory in west baltimore anyone who turned in an automatic or semiautomatic handgun or assault rifle received $100. others were worth $50. all were taken no. questions asked. >> we're grateful for the people that turned them in. and several that turned them in said they had them laying around the house and they were afraid that they would fall into the wrong people's hands. which is the right motivation to turn in these guns. >> the weekend program netted 21 firearms and several calls on sunday offering to turn in even more guns. all the weapons collected are turned over immediately to the police. >> all of this violence is spurring prosecutors to renew calls to toughen up the state's anti-gang laws. several of the top law enforcement officials will meet

this week to do just that. prosecutors argue that the existing laws are so watered down it's virtually impossible to get a conviction. they cited a 2000 case in harford county that was thrown out by a judge as proof that the current laws are unworkable. >> the state of virginia is moving forward wits plan to execute john allen mohammed, the man convicted of the 2002d.c. area snipe area tacks. the prosecutor's office submitted a request for a date of november 9. defense attorneys are expected to file an appeal to the u.s. supreme court as well as a petition for clemency. mohammed was sentenced to death for the slaying of dean may myers, one of 10 people shot to death during the shooting rampage. >> some contentious hearings begin today as the public service commission review a proposed deal between constellation energy and the french nuclear power company e.d.f. opponents argue the deal benefits only constellation's

shareholder and executives and contains no relief for rate payers. constellation official disease know that saying they have submitted thousands of pages of documents to the state to prove it. they also disagree that the p.s.c. has the authority to weigh in on the deals. a ruling is expected by mid october. some alarming news regarding baltimore city's police and pension system. the state audit finds that the city has no money put aside for future benefits under the pension plan for firefighters and police hired before 1947. the city's finance director says that specific plan has been a pay as you go plan but points out that the few members are still on that plan. president obama heads to new york today to look to kickstart his drive for regulatory reform on wall street. the raging health care debate and opposition have helped to move that to the backburner. brook hart is in washington with what to expect. >> it was a year ago today lehman brothers collapsed and the financial panic began. investors and homeowners saw wealth wiped out and two

administrations stepped in with massive bailouts and aid. president obama today highlights what has changed and what hasn't. not a single new law has been enacted to prevent a repeat. but the president will say the economy's better off. thanks, he'll say to bold steps. >> and rescue the financial system, to ensure that our domestic audio industry didn't go out of business and to stimulate the economy. that certainly cost a lot of money but it's something that we had to do. >> we have dom speak. >> thousands of protesters came to washington this weekend angry over those steps. >> they're spending too much money we don't have. >> and wary of the obama health care plan. >> we must stop this government takeover of health care. >> one advisor to the president said more people need change than oppose it. >> i don't think we ought to be distracted by that. my message to them is they're wrong. >> senate democrats this week unveiled the only reform bill with g.o.p. input. it offers no optional government

insurance. >> we'll be using the co-op as an option at this point. >> will senator snowe or any g.o.p. senator support it? >> we invite the republicans to join us for this historic opportunity. if we did not, we are still going to go forward. >> changes are being made still. changes aimed at getting the votes to pass health care reform. the president's speech today in new york aims to blunt criticism he's ignored other priorities like regulatory reform in the process. in washington, brook hart, wbal-tv 11 news. >> well, you've been hearing about it for weeks, quite frankly months. and tonight's the night. at 10:00 tonight jay leno takes his act to prime-time in a new show that's shaking up network lineups. perhaps you've heard about it. it's called "the jay leno show." it will be going head-to-head with some of tv's most popular scripted shows five nights a week. nbc is banking on audiences wanting a change of pace while still relying on the familiar things jay's made viewers laugh to over the years.

stories, police officials in connecticut believe they have found the body of a missing yale graduate student on the very same day she was set to be married. investigators say they found a body believed to be that of 24-year-old le hidden inside a wall at the lab she worked. police say they also found a large amount of physical evidence at the scene. she was last seen walking into the yale science lab building tuesday but security cameras never showed her leaving. one person is dead after gunfire erupts at a party for a group of teens in indianapolis. police say at least 60 people were attending the party celebrating a high school football game when an unidentified teen opened fire. an 18-year-old party gore was killed while a -- goer was killed. c.i.a. officials are working to authenticate the latest audio tape reportedly from osama bin laden. the new tape on an islamist

plenty of sun throughout and warm this afternoon. 79 to 85 the temperature range. winds really not an issue out of the west at five to 10 miles per hour. the sun will be up shortly and will set tonight at 7:16. back to you two. >> see you in a bit. it's been another violent weekend in baltimore with at least three deadly shootings. >> 11 news reporter kate amara joins from us baltimore city police headquarters with more on the story. >> good morning, and this day began with another murder that police are investigating. a 31-year-old man shot multiple times in the head and chest and pronounced dead at the scene, the 500 block of pressman street. this deadly shooting scene sunday afternoon marked a dismal milestone for baltimore city police. the last two years they've managed to knock down city's murder rate to its lowest level in 20 years. but after a man was shot to death near reisterstown road, the city marked six murders in one week. sunday's spade of shootings

began just after 1:30 am when 18-year-old israeli mason was shot several times on mcculloh street. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. the next killing came three hours later in south baltimore, a 35-year-old gunned down on west cross street just before 4:30 a.m. those murders make this past week the deadliest baltimore has seen in two months. even so, on "11 news sunday morning" mayor sheila dixon says she is committed to her crime fighting plan. >> we've got to continue to go after illegal guns. i can't stress that any more. we're still working on a whole host of issues. i think we're making those strides. do i need trying times? it's a matter of saying, do we want to go backwards or continue to build on that even though we have less? it's are you committed to the plan in making a difference for the citizens of the city? >> despite those strong words and vote of confidence the crime fighting strategy, the shooting

spree continued into sunday night with detectives on the case of another shooting in the 1300 block of west pratt street. this happened just after 6:00 p.m. mayor dixon said the police department is feeling the squeeze in the middle of the city's cash crunch, but contends economic problems have not cut into law enforcement efforts. >> take furlough days away and give giving back equivalent to what other employees are doing. but, of course, we've got to stay focused on the agenda. what does that mean? it still means all of us are going to have to do more with less, that people have to make sacrifices. you can't lose the momentum of what's happening in this city with the crime. >> the numbers keep going up. with confirmation of this morning's murder baltimore city now has an unofficial murder count of 163 for the year 2009 so far. live from city police headquarters, i'm kate amara, wbal-tv 11 news. >> the search continues for the vehicle involved in a hit and

run. it happened friday night near carroll island road. police say a dark blue or black pickup truck struck a pedestrian around 10:00 and then took off. the victim was taken to shock trauma with life-threatening injuries. >> on some positive news now, ravens fans are flying high after yesterday's season-opening win against the kansas city chiefs. 11 news reporter melissa carlson caught up with many of them as they took part in a time-honored tradition of tailgating before the game. >> 72,000 people packed m&t bank stadium. that meant dollar signs for vendors like andre lemon who says business has been good, especially when it comes to a certain player. >> joe flacco. whacko for flacco. >> and probably as much as ravens fans love to tailgate. from crab cakes to purple bread these fans are fueled up for what many thought was going to be an easy win. >> i thought it was going to be a blowout it should have been

administration's efforts to repair the u.s. economy. but he will also push for more work to be done. >> it's going to take a while to get through this. it's going to take longer to do it because we're going to do it right. >> treasury secretary tim geithner before a congressional panel last week. the administration wants to get reform back on the agenda. aides say the president will push for stricter oversight. their proposals have stalled in congress as attention shifted to health care. now on the one-year answer -- anniversary of the bankruptcy the white house hopes to renew attention on the financial system. the collapse of the investment giant triggered the worst economic crisis since world war ii, leading to a slew of bailouts and other government interventions. >> the government really needs to communicate when you're in the middle of a crisis that you're in charge, you know what you're doing, and here are the rules. >> but with some concerned about the level of government involvement, the president will also detail how it plans to unwind its role in the financial sector. in washington, nikole killion, wbal-tv 11 news.

>> thanks. as we take a look at h.d. doppler this morning, the story is quiet. nothing really happening of importance over the state of maryland, at least in the way of precipitation. the showers and storms will be confined to the deep south today on the east coast. things look going for us. sunny skies prevailing. it looks like winds will be light and out of the west. temperatures will be warm by this afternoon. let's check out this morning's readings. it looks like 68 downtown. 61 out at the airport. it's 54 in york. upper 50's to low 60's on the eastern shore. we're going to head up for a high of about 76 in the mountains of western maryland. that's above normal for the upper elevations. gorgeous, blue skies in the mountains. here in the charm city, 84 your forecast high. brilliant sunshine. 79 is where we should be so we're surpassing that. a warm afternoon. humidity levels going to be pretty much kept at bay. we're going to be comfortable nonetheless. 76 in the shores of ocean city. on the shores along the chesapeake bay. winds light today, out of the

north-northwest. waves are just churning up to about a foot today. record high september 14, 1931. 94 sizzling degrees. in contrast, a chilly record low of 42 in 1975. both are secure. 58 is where we should be overnight it does look like that's where we're headed for tonight. anywhere from 58 to 59 in the outlying areas. to the 60's downtown. clear skies, winds consistent out of the west at five to 10 miles an hour. high pressure is dominating. we're going to stay stable and quiet for the first two days. then as we get into the latter half of the week, we're go fog see a change. first thing's first. back to our cold front from the north. it will be in the general vicinity. in the wake of that high pressure will develop in new england. and whenever we have that, we have a tendency to get the clouds rolling in within a-- an easterly flow. it's kind of what happened last week. it's what we're forecasting wednesday and thursday. a moist mari time flow so periods of rain.
