morning. on the eastern shore it looks like upper 50's to low 60's. across the state, sunshine. high pressure is keeping us stable and quiet and mild. the trend going to last through the first half of the week. we'll talk about that change coming up. right now let's check in with traffic and sarah. >> hello and good morning. no volume-related delays at the moment. but we have some problems that could create delays southbound on the harrisburg expressway. we have an accident involving a small trailer that overturned there. prior to that you may start to see delays. we're hearing that there are some lanes closed there. meantime, want to remind you some lanes closed, westbound preston at cathedral until noon today. eastbound 32 at 108 in howrt county, an accident that is still clearing. drive times not too bad. 11 minutes outer loop northeast side. same on the outer loop. 10-minute ride from the beltway southwest to 32. 83 at mount carmel, south of the accident scene. might want to consider york road

as an alternate. and a live view of traffic at 50 at maryland 8. moving very well approaching the bay bridge from the eastern shore. back to you. >> thank you. our big story, thi it was a bloy weekend in several baltimore neighborhoods. >> gunfire left two people dead, at least four shootings in the last 48 hours. 11 news reporter kate amara is live at city police headquarters with that story. >> there have been four homicides in the last two days in baltimore city, four shooting incidents on sunday. and these of those were deadly. the spade of shootings on sunday began just after 1:30 a.m. an 18-year-old was shot several times in the 2000 block of mcculloh street. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. the next killing came three hours later in south baltimore, a 35-year-old was gunned down in the 100 block of west craw street just before 4:30 a.m. a man was also murdered just after noon on sunday after being shot in the area of west cold spring lane and reisterstown road in northwest baltimore.

and according to baltimore city police the search is on for whoever gunned down eye man in the 1300 block of west pratt street just after 6:00 p.m. last night. it's a 38-year-old man who was said to be in stable condition at shock trauma this morning. we have reaction now from mayor sheila dixon who spoke to 11 news in the middle of sunday's violent streak. >> we've got to continue to go after illegal guns. i can't stress that any more. we're still working on a whole host of issues. and i think we're making those kind of strides. i do need some trying times? it's really a matter of saying do we want to go backwards or do we want to continue to build on that even though we have less? that's what it's about. are you committed to the plan in making a difference for the citizens of the city? >> and the killing continued into this day. baltimore city police tell us a 31-year-old man was gunned down in the 500 block o 500.

i'm kate amara, wbal-tv 11 news. >> thank you very much. all of this violence comes at the same time a local church is trying to get guns off the streets. at st. gregory in west baltimore anyone who turned in an automatic or semiautomatic handgun or assault rifle received $100. others were worth $50. all were taken no. questions asked. >> we're grateful for the people that turned them in. and several that turned them in said they had them laying around the house and they were afraid that they would fall into the wrong people's hands. which is the right motivation to turn in these guns. >> the weekend program netted 21 firearms and several calls on sunday offering to turn in even more guns. all the weapons collected are turned over immediately to the police. >> all of this violence is spurring prosecutors to renew calls to toughen up the state's anti-gang laws. several of the top law enforcement officials will meet

this week to do just that. prosecutors argue that the existing laws are so watered down it's virtually impossible to get a conviction. they cited a 2000 case in harford county that was thrown out by a judge as proof that the current laws are unworkable. >> the state of virginia is moving forward wits plan to execute john allen mohammed, the man convicted of the 2002d.c. area snipe area tacks. the prosecutor's office submitted a request for a date of november 9. defense attorneys are expected to file an appeal to the u.s. supreme court as well as a petition for clemency. mohammed was sentenced to death for the slaying of dean may myers, one of 10 people shot to death during the shooting rampage. >> some contentious hearings begin today as the public service commission review a proposed deal between constellation energy and the french nuclear power company e.d.f. opponents argue the deal benefits only constellation's

shareholder and executives and contains no relief for rate payers. constellation official disease know that saying they have submitted thousands of pages of documents to the state to prove it. they also disagree that the p.s.c. has the authority to weigh in on the deals. a ruling is expected by mid october. some alarming news regarding baltimore city's police and pension system. the state audit finds that the city has no money put aside for future benefits under the pension plan for firefighters and police hired before 1947. the city's finance director says that specific plan has been a pay as you go plan but points out that the few members are still on that plan. president obama heads to new york today to look to kickstart his drive for regulatory reform on wall street. the raging health care debate and opposition have helped to move that to the backburner. brook hart is in washington with what to expect. >> it was a year ago today lehman brothers collapsed and the financial panic began. investors and homeowners saw wealth wiped out and two

administrations stepped in with massive bailouts and aid. president obama today highlights what has changed and what hasn't. not a single new law has been enacted to prevent a repeat. but the president will say the economy's better off. thanks, he'll say to bold steps. >> and rescue the financial system, to ensure that our domestic audio industry didn't go out of business and to stimulate the economy. that certainly cost a lot of money but it's something that we had to do. >> we have dom speak. >> thousands of protesters came to washington this weekend angry over those steps. >> they're spending too much money we don't have. >> and wary of the obama health care plan. >> we must stop this government takeover of health care. >> one advisor to the president said more people need change than oppose it. >> i don't think we ought to be distracted by that. my message to them is they're wrong. >> senate democrats this week unveiled the only reform bill with g.o.p. input. it offers no optional government

insurance. >> we'll be using the co-op as an option at this point. >> will senator snowe or any g.o.p. senator support it? >> we invite the republicans to join us for this historic opportunity. if we did not, we are still going to go forward. >> changes are being made still. changes aimed at getting the votes to pass health care reform. the president's speech today in new york aims to blunt criticism he's ignored other priorities like regulatory reform in the process. in washington, brook hart, wbal-tv 11 news. >> well, you've been hearing about it for weeks, quite frankly months. and tonight's the night. at 10:00 tonight jay leno takes his act to prime-time in a new show that's shaking up network lineups. perhaps you've heard about it. it's called "the jay leno show." it will be going head-to-head with some of tv's most popular scripted shows five nights a week. nbc is banking on audiences wanting a change of pace while still relying on the familiar things jay's made viewers laugh to over the years.

>> top of this monday morning to you. it is 6:13. 68 degrees downtown under beautiful, clear skies. stars twinkling last night. a nice quiet start for us. especially on h.d. doppler. a whole lot of nothing. hard-pressed to even find any cloud cover this morning. your forecast for today is pretty simple. sunny skies. clear skies tonight. more sun tomorrow. temperatures right now it looks like are in the 60's generally. it's 61 at the airport. considerably warmer, upper 60's downtown. we're even in the mid 50's in york, pennsylvania. anywhere from the upper 50's to low 60's on the eastern shore around easton and st. michaels. 63 to begin things in ocean city. so a beautiful start for us. a little brisk this morning. but we will warm up quickly with the sun in your forecast. that includes the mountains of western maryland. high projected out there at 86 -- 76 degrees. we'll be closer to 86 in baltimore with wins very light and out of the west. 84 in general at the airport. plenty of sun. plenty of sun in ocean city

added with a few thin clouds as well. it looks like 76 the cooler high because of the moderating influence of the atlantic. on the chesapeake bay, no problems for boaters today. a light north-northwesterly flow at five to 10 knots. waves are unimpressive at a foot or less. we're going to be above in both cases, 79 is where we should be. into the mid 80's today. average slow 58. we'll probably be about 60 in our suburbs but more like mid 60's in the downtown area. 94 the record set on september 14. a chilly 42 the record low in 1975. winds light, 59 to 66 the overnight temperature range. a nice dome of high pressure keeping us stable and dry and warm forp the next two days -- for the next two days. as the week progresses, the high to the north will pull in an easterly flow so moist

stories, police officials in connecticut believe they have found the body of a missing yale graduate student on the very same day she was set to be married. investigators say they found a body believed to be that of 24-year-old le hidden inside a wall at the lab she worked. police say they also found a large amount of physical evidence at the scene. she was last seen walking into the yale science lab building tuesday but security cameras never showed her leaving. one person is dead after gunfire erupts at a party for a group of teens in indianapolis. police say at least 60 people were attending the party celebrating a high school football game when an unidentified teen opened fire. an 18-year-old party gore was killed while a -- goer was killed. c.i.a. officials are working to authenticate the latest audio tape reportedly from osama bin laden. the new tape on an islamist

website warnz the american people over their government's close ties to israel. that's according to a u.s.-based terror monitoring group. the 10-minute long recording comes just days after the eighth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. >> in this morning's "consumer alert," coffee drinkers in several states are getting a reprevious. starbucks says it will close 27 fewer stores than it originally planned because they're making more money than projected. 17 states had been targeted for store close yours. most of them in texas. none here in maryland. in all, more than 900 starbucks are shut down nationwide. while many businesses are downsizing, officials at disney world say they are planning the biggest park expansion in company history. the plan development will nearly double the size of the orlando resort's fantasy land with an expanded dumbo ride, new restaurants and two new attractions, one based on "the little mermaid" and another on the disney princess characters. they will be updating the star

tours ride at their hollywood studios park by 2011. investors are watching high-level trade talks between the white house and china. jane king has that story and more in the "bloomberg business report." >> good morning. growing dispute with one of our main trading partners. china now says it's probing subsidy and possibly dumping u.s. imports of chicken and other products. the news after president obama sided with the steel workers union. they're planning about what it views as protectionism. china says it may refer the case to the w.t.o. according to data, the tariff may be an opening move in a campaign for fewer trade barriers down the line. watching sprint nextel today. according to a leading british newspaper, a takeover bid.

stocks are down on concern the recent rally is outpacing prospects for earnings. locally the bloomberg maryland index inked out in gains. today lockheed's fighter jet is in focus. the page maker of the engine says it's investigating why parts began flying out of the engine's tailpipe during a recent trial run. the company doesn't think this will delay its certification by the federal aviation administration. even so, congress is debating whether or not to fund a backup engine. at the new york stock exchange, i'm jane king, bloomberg news reporting for wbal-tv 11 news. >> michael jackson fans will get to see at least a glimpse of the tour that never was. the soon-to-be released film "michael jackson: this is it" features footage featuring jackson rehearsing a number of songs for the planned tour that was scheduled just days prior to his death. and you'll get a rare behind-the-scenes look at the singer's life and rehearsals. the film will only air for two

weeks. music fans have come to expect the unexpected when it comes to kanye west at award programs of the last night was no exception. after taylor swift won the best female video award, conway felt the -- kanye felt he need to let the world know the singer didn't get his vote. >> taylor, i'm really happy for you. i'm going to let you finish, but beyonce had one of the best videos of all time. one of the best videos of all time. >> as you can hear, the audience didn't take too kindness to the on-stage protest. they booed him whenever his name was mentioned for the rest of the night. when beyonce won an award of her own later in the night, she called swift back on stage to finish her acceptance speech. >> that was classy. >> you're right. >> 6:20. 59 degrees on tv hill. another check on weather and traffic is straight ahead.

of total offense, three touchdown passes from joe flacco. why was it with five minutes left in the game it was tied? john harbaugh, and we all watched this, said breakdowns on special teams a big reason why. you see it there. john mcgraw untouched. touchdown, kansas city. 10-7, ravens. in the third quarter they were down 14-10. joe flacco to todd heap! and man, this was good for ravens fans to see. todd back in the end zone. 17-10. five catches for heap. it was tied 24-24, fourth quarter. look at that touch on the fras joe flacco to -- pass from joe flacco. the ravens win. three t.d. passes for flacco who gave the credit to his teammates. >> it's awesome. it's so much fun. as a quarterback, that's what you want to do. you want to sit back there, let your o-line take care of you and give your ball to the receivers. it was a lot of fun for me and i think for our backs, too. they had a great game.

i think it was a good all-around team game. >> career-high 300 yards passing for joe flacco. kim clijsters wins the u.s. open's women's tennis championship and serena williams is fined $10,000 for unsportsmanlike behavior. a profanity-laced tirade aimed at an official after she was called for a foot fault in her loss to cliefters. clijsters. plenty of sun throughout and warm this afternoon. 79 to 85 the temperature range. winds really not an issue out of the west at five to 10 miles per hour. the sun will be up shortly and will set tonight at 7:16. back to you two. >> see you in a bit. it's been another violent weekend in baltimore with at least three deadly shootings. >> 11 news reporter kate amara joins from us baltimore city police headquarters with more on the story. >> good morning, and this day began with another murder that police are investigating. a 31-year-old man shot multiple times in the head and chest and pronounced dead at the scene, the 500 block of pressman street. this deadly shooting scene sunday afternoon marked a dismal milestone for baltimore city police. the last two years they've managed to knock down city's murder rate to its lowest level in 20 years. but after a man was shot to death near reisterstown road, the city marked six murders in one week. sunday's spade of shootings

began just after 1:30 am when 18-year-old israeli mason was shot several times on mcculloh street. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. the next killing came three hours later in south baltimore, a 35-year-old gunned down on west cross street just before 4:30 a.m. those murders make this past week the deadliest baltimore has seen in two months. even so, on "11 news sunday morning" mayor sheila dixon says she is committed to her crime fighting plan. >> we've got to continue to go after illegal guns. i can't stress that any more. we're still working on a whole host of issues. i think we're making those strides. do i need trying times? it's a matter of saying, do we want to go backwards or continue to build on that even though we have less? it's are you committed to the plan in making a difference for the citizens of the city? >> despite those strong words and vote of confidence the crime fighting strategy, the shooting

spree continued into sunday night with detectives on the case of another shooting in the 1300 block of west pratt street. this happened just after 6:00 p.m. mayor dixon said the police department is feeling the squeeze in the middle of the city's cash crunch, but contends economic problems have not cut into law enforcement efforts. >> take furlough days away and give giving back equivalent to what other employees are doing. but, of course, we've got to stay focused on the agenda. what does that mean? it still means all of us are going to have to do more with less, that people have to make sacrifices. you can't lose the momentum of what's happening in this city with the crime. >> the numbers keep going up. with confirmation of this morning's murder baltimore city now has an unofficial murder count of 163 for the year 2009 so far. live from city police headquarters, i'm kate amara, wbal-tv 11 news. >> the search continues for the vehicle involved in a hit and

run. it happened friday night near carroll island road. police say a dark blue or black pickup truck struck a pedestrian around 10:00 and then took off. the victim was taken to shock trauma with life-threatening injuries. >> on some positive news now, ravens fans are flying high after yesterday's season-opening win against the kansas city chiefs. 11 news reporter melissa carlson caught up with many of them as they took part in a time-honored tradition of tailgating before the game. >> 72,000 people packed m&t bank stadium. that meant dollar signs for vendors like andre lemon who says business has been good, especially when it comes to a certain player. >> joe flacco. whacko for flacco. >> and probably as much as ravens fans love to tailgate. from crab cakes to purple bread these fans are fueled up for what many thought was going to be an easy win. >> i thought it was going to be a blowout it should have been

but it didn't. >> that's because the chiefs kept the score neck and neck. >> i was getting nervous. but i like when t when it's closer like that. it makes it more interesting. then when you win, the victory is that much sweeter. >> after the game, the grills fired back up and so did the conversation. >> it was a big win. let's go, ravens! yeah! whoo! >> i thought it was awesome. way to start off the season. i'm so proud to be a baltimore fan. ravens rock! >> some say today's game has them a little worried. >> i don't think the defense is as strong as it used to be. >> coming to the game despite her injury, she isn't going to speculate what this means for talk about predictions for the future. she says she is just happy for today. >> i just want a good season. i don't care. i'm a fan either way. >> melissa carlson, wbal-tv 11 news.

>> and a w is a w. a very special lady had a special birthday over the weekend. ago news celebrated her -- agnus celebrated her 105th birthday. agnus moved here and worked as a cook and nanny when she was well into her 70's. she volunteered at her church and community for more than 65 years. yesterday friends and family gave her a nice birthday dinner full of surprises. >> about as nice to me and i'm nice back towards them unless they make me mad. >> what kind of gifts did you get? >> all kinds of gifts. yeah. mostly love. yeah. >> i love her attitude. agnus attributes her longevity to a healthy die yet and strong -- diet and strong faith. >> happy birthday to agnus.

let's see what's going on out there. still dealing with a problem southbound harrisburg expressway. if you're heading out there, this is from approaching the pennsylvania state line now. about a half a mile. that's where your delay starts down to approaching york road. that's where we have all but the shoulder only squeezing by. you can see it's due to an accident. you're going to want to take york road. we'll track this for you. in the meantime, not seeing any significant delays anywhere else. we had an accident in howard county at eastbound 32. that is now clear. here's a live view of traffic. heading out of the white marsh area. we are starting to see a few break lights intermittently southbound towards the beltway northeast. we'll switch over on the northwest side. green spring a pretty clear ride. that's the latest. over to you. >> plenty of sun. the temperature range decent at 79 to 85 degrees. normal for this time of the year. it's 79. the outlying areas will see that. a warm afternoon. it looks like another nice day

>> welcome back to 11 news today. it's 6:44. some contentious hearings begin today as the public service commission review a proposed deal between constellation energy and e.d.f. opponents of the proposal argue that the $4.5 billion deal benefits only constellation's shareholder and executives and contain's no relief for rate payers. constellation officials say the state does not have the authority to weigh in on the deal since it does not impact b.g.e. operations. a ruling is expected by mid october. the ravens kicked off their season in the win column with the high-flying offense. the ravens set a franchise high for offense as well as personal bests in three categories for quarterback joe flacco.

>> good morning. let's start with the big problem southbound harrisburg expressway. traffic just inching along for a half a mile approaching the pennsylvania state line all the way down to approaching york road. that's where we have an accident still clearing involving an over turned trailer. only the shoulder squeezing by. take york road. it's going to be a while for that delay to clear. other problem spots, we have a new accident at bel air road in the city. also westbound presston still closed at -- preston still closed at cathedral. north side looking pretty good. drive times on the outer loop west side about 13. southbound on 95 between the beltway southwest and 32 a 10-minute ride. 95 at white marsh building in volume. but no substantial delay there. harford road, we are picking up in volume and developing a delay there. that's the latest on traffic pulse 11. over to you.
