johns hopkins univ. student armed with a samurai sword killed a man. >> the students said the suspect broke into the garage of his off-campus apartment in the 300 block of east university parkway early this morning. >> police will not release the name of the student involved here unless he is charged with a crime, however, police have confirmed the identity of the alleged intruder. 49-year-old donald dwane rice of baltimore city. behind the broken wooden fence, there are signs of what happened here early tuesday morning. according to police, a johns hopkins undergraduate took a samurai sword to a would-be intruder in the garage and killed him. >> at s.m.r. resort, someone dying? i could not believe it. -- a samurai sword, someone dying? i could not believe it. it is just a shock to hear. >> the killing has rattled some.

now lives across the street and says he heard someone screaming early this morning. >> i was outside a little bit later and by then there were a lot of cops. there were seven or eight top cars and a fire truck. and a couple of hopkins security vehicles. i knew something must have happened. i did not think it would be anything of this nature. >> it began just before 1:30 a.m. with a 911 call about a suspicious person here in the 300 block of east university parkway. >> when police arrived, we run accompanied by johns hopkins university police security. we heard calls routes and calls for police. we ran across the street and found what looks like a burglary suspect made entry into a home. president check out what was going on and had a summarized toward with him. -- a samurai sword with him.
