>> our big story this morning. savings plans will help the city combat is shortfall for the budget. >> some will be laid off and others will face furloughs. our reporter is live at city hall with the details. >> good morning. every employee will be asked to make a sacrifice. the furloughs and cuts are being blamed on tax revenue that has dropped over the last year in state funding. officials say this step is necessary to fill the $60.2 million gap. it will affect part-time, temporary, and contractual workers. the must take five unpaid days off. fire and police departments are being asked to come up with $8 million in cuts as an alternative to furloughs. union leaders say the city's action is a contractual violation and they are willing to fight it in court.

half of the nation's biggest retail chains said they will hire fewer workers this holiday season than last. from best buy to american eagle to saks, they will have fewer holiday workers than last year. that means less people will have money to shop during the holiday season. the number of missing workers could be six figures. palm launched the pre in competition with the iphone. iphone change their software and so palm change their software. iphone changed it again. >> local hotel chains are getting a warning about their mounting debts.

we have a look at the bloomberg business report. good morning. >> good morning. citigroup is preparing to downsize. they may sell or shut over 1000 branches in the u.s. and canada. the bank may shift its retail focus to metro areas where it already has high branch locations. according to the commerce secretary, the obama administration is setting up an office to help people transfer ideas into companies. business owners would get training credit and access to government research through this new initiative. there was concern that the federal reserve would use fewer tools to boost the economy.
