a robbery. jennifer franciotti is outside mount sinai hospital with the latest. >> police say the officer was off-duty when he was approached by three men with guns and police say this happened just after 10:00 in the 600 block of high gate when police say a gun battle broke out between the officer and the suspects. thester was shot multiple times where he immediately undertwenty-first round of abdominal surgery, the officer came out of surgery around 3:00 a.m. and in critical condition and was transferred to i.c.u. police are apparently talking to two people of interest in this case. we hope to have an update on his condition soon. jennifer franciotti, wbal-tv 11 news. >> also this morning baltimore county police are mourning the loss of one of their own when

his car flipped over on the way to work. 32-year-old jason simmons lost control of his pick-up when he lost control on the slick roads. he was a seven-year veteran of the force. >> and after arrested for making false statements and stealing from suspects. he was with the -- a criminal complaint alleges he received several items including clothing from a hotel room and arranged for the informant to get payments for the information then give give half the money to lunsford. >> i hope people will recognize that we're on the job and the majority of the police officers you zeal with on a daily basis
