>> another death in maryland related to the h1n1 swine flu virus. it comes about a week before the first doses of the vaccine are expected to be available. that is our big story this noon. this is the nine swine flu related deaths in our state and the second involving a child. officials say the victim was a student in northeast baltimore. officials just made the announcement. >> officials have confirmed back 14-year-old destiny parker has died from conditions related to the swine flu. the mayor and the interim health commissioner addressed in a short time ago and talked about the expected vaccine. >> our prayers are with her

family during these really trying times. we still do not have the vaccine. the federal government has not released the vaccine. the manufacturer has not got it ready to go yet. as soon as we get it, we will be administering it. if the child has a fever or anyone has a fever, they need to stay at home. they need to be fever-free without medication 24 hours. >> that vaccine is expected but absolutely not certain to arrive on october 5. the distribution plan still being worked out. >> thank you. health officials say 250 million doses of the h1n1 vaccine will be available, enough to cover everyone who wants it. some parents do not want another vaccine for their kids. others wish only that it came sooner. >> her mom says chloe lindsay

was a healthy 14 year-old. she went home from school sick wednesday, diagnosed with swine flu friday, hospitalized by sunday. >> she was just gasping for air. i asked my baby why she was breathing like that, and she said, "mom, it hurts." >> her mom said it did not seem possible. >> the flu killed my baby. >> health care workers in new york are being required to take the shot. some resist it. >> tomorrow, we stopped the mandate. >> only four i intend parents plan to vaccinate their children according to one survey. marty griffin says she is not sure it will help. >> i'm just not willing to do it. i'm hoping that the problem does not become a massive outbreak. if it does, may regret this decision. >> health officials reassured

odor traveled through their school ventilation system -- schools ventilation system. we're told the odor was from work being done on the school's rules. the building has since been aired out, and students are now back in class. friends and loved ones remembering the laney high school student who was killed over the weekend in a car crash. relatives tell us his family became concerned when he did not make a saturday night curfew. it was not until early monday morning when authorities discovered his car. he had apparently lost control and plowed into a tree. friends at his school are remembering him as an all-around great person. >> he would walk into a room, not know who you work, and just be a friend. he was friends with everybody. he was so open. he did not have any enemies. >> when you were down, he knew how to cheer you up. he was like the class clown, just a funny guy of the whole class. >> officials say logan was a

officials say happened along the same fault line that spawned the 2003 indian ocean tsunami. meanwhile, this is the damage left behind after an earthquake triggered an earthquake in similar and american samoa yesterday. nearly 100 people were killed. the quake hit about 20 miles below the ocean floor. a central arizona man distraught over losing his home to foreclosure was shot and killed after a standoff with police. officers swarmed the neighborhood after the man confronted the new owners at gunpoint. they say when it went to live in, they found him inside seemingly willing to give up the home. soon after, they say things turn violent. >> the homeowner did fire least four rounds. >> police soon showed up. they say the man was drunk and belligerent. they say he first fired rubber

they say stay away from swine flu parties. it is the get it out of the way mentality, but experts say intentionally exposing your child to an environment where they could get the virus is risky at best. >> there is a danger for severe consequences. why would anybody even want to go through that when it is not inevitable, and there is a gamble to it. >> experts say some think the strain will be milder earlier in the flu season. he says it is safer just to stay away from it and get the vaccine as soon as it becomes available. there is a chance the vaccine will not come soon enough for you and your family. in that case, experts are urging you to be prepared. >> in indianapolis, the 12 month old was hospitalized with a soaring fever after both his parents came down with swine flu. >> we are doing that every three

hours, rotating. still 102 or 103. then he just stopped eating and drinking. >> joey pulled through, but halfway across the country, a police officer died. >> i just want people to know that this is happening. that can happen, and just prepare for it. >> flu season has barely started, but swine flu cases have already begun to surge. this nurse says people need to gather some key items to create a swine flu survival kit. it should include fluids with electrolytes like gatorade, seaver reduces with ibuprofen or acetaminophen, as well as cough and cold medication. >> many of us have these items already in our homes, but over the years, like last year, you might use them. they might have an expiration date on them, or you might not have certain items that you thought you >> had > she says

today, we are going to see 65 or 66 for central maryland. we will call invariably cloudy. a lot more ran out over the mountains. looks like only 51 today. 68 in ocean city, and a slight chance in the shower. on the day, things have calmed down a little bit. not as intense. waves are two feet. water temperatures are still hovering in the 70's. the record high, september 30, 92 degrees, set back in 1986 during a record low of 39 set way back in 1888. while we are not going to threaten the record low, we may be in the low 40's tonight. we are expecting skies to clear after midnight. normal is 73. average low is 51. definitely off of the average. after midnight, mostly clear, chile, winds like, so this is the perfect ingredient for what we call radiation and cooling. nothing to block that
