home. jennifer franciotti has more. >> police say the suspect best in the victim's head and raped her at knifepoint. it happened on september 23 and early morning hours on franklin street. this is a sketch of what police believe the suspect looks like. in his early 20's, 5 1/7, slim build. "g-force" his way into the 30 year-old woman at 2:20 in the morning. they characterized him as being rootless. the children were in the house at the time of the rape. >> detectives are hoping anybody with information regarding the incident can give them a call. >> police said the victim does not know the assailant. anyone with information is asked to call police. residents in the area are taking extra safety precautions. jennifer franciotti reporting. >> thank you.

baltimore city police need your help this morning tracking down a male driver who drag the police officer five blocks. the suspects refuse met with police officers bu -- suspect named ricky hughes met with officers but then took off. >> the officer was hanging out of the window. he did not get hurt really badly. another officer fired shots at the car, shooting out the back window. hughes was nowhere to be found when they found the vehicle. yesterday afternoon in south baltimore we're told in another case an officer shot a suspect who apparently had a weapon. a gun has been recovered.

the suspect is in critical condition at shock trauma. >> of baltimore city police officer if it's out on vaunt for charges involving drugs. sylvester was already being investigated for allegedly shaking down drug suspects for cash. he was caught in september during an undercover sting. internal troubles continued for the city police department. the commander of the southeastern district this morning is on suspension pending an internal investigation. he was suspended forb personnel suspendeed--. his name is bergeron. >> there's a discovery in a cold

cases. >> the mystery has haunted her family. she vanished last october 28 after leaving work at volunteers of america. her car was parked outside the west for spark home that she shared with or friend. saturday two hundred founder body in a wooded area on ridge road in ridge lawn. >> city detectives were doggedly trying to solve the crime. then again when the hunters found the remains of mia nichols, that was what they needed. >> the live-in boyfriend tyrone webb was charged with murder. mia nichols was shot twice in the head. tyrone webb was suspected early on an investigation. one witness said mia crying at work in october and said tyrone had been buzzing all morning with her and threatened her,

saying she better not come home. they discovered a history of violence in the relationship and speculate on possible motive that was an already violence situation. tyrone webb had already gotten one woman pregnant. it's possible mia nichols was planning to leave them. the news came as a shock to the couple's neighbours. >> we never heard anything from them. nothing that gave us bad vibes that something was going on like this happening. >> investigators believe she was killed sometime between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. on the 20th. the place of death is listed as the spot in the woods where her body was found. >> this morning authorities have arrested a man who shot a bb gun

at an mta bus. the driver was taking students to school when she stopped to pick up passengers in southwestern baltimore. that is when she noticed the man pointing a gun at the front window. the suspect fired a gun several times but the windshield and not break. >> some florida parents are not happy with the vocabulary word being taught in advanced placement course. abducted from her bedroom seven years ago. the man has twice been found incompetent to stand trial. smart says mitchell was motivated by sex and use religion to get what he wanted. he and his wife were found with smart nine months after she disappeared from her house in utah. >> a man fell into a construction trend in nevada last night. he had to be rescued. it's not a construction worker. he was being freed from the trend in las vegas in this shot. he called 911 for help before any construction worker saw him. he was hospitalized, suffering from arm and leg pain, expected to make a full recovery. still ahead, the state is granting a tax extensions to the end of businesses affected by the water main break. >> tweaking your problems, that the head.

for whatever city is chosen. billions of construction dollars. it would generate $2 billion in sponsorship for chicago. social security applications are soaring as more workers opt for early retirement during the recession. there were 150,000 extra retirees this year. the program may run out of money in 2037. as for the market's major sell- off yesterday, after disappointing manufacturing report and an increase in weekly jobless claims. futures are pointing to a quietly lower start this morning. it does not look like a rebound at this hour. good news for parents and kids this holiday season. mattel and hasbro are shifting to lower prices. mattel says 80% of its stores will be less than $30. and hasbro has stores under $50. i'm jane king reporting for wbal-tv 11 news.
